Angels | Jhoulys Chacin goes the distance

Tue, 31 May 2016 05:00:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jhoulys Chacin tossed a complete game in a win over the Detroit Tigers Monday, May 30, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out 10.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin has delivered three quality outings in four starts since joining the Angels, and he is worth a look if you need rotation help in AL-only formats.

Angels | Jhoulys Chacin acquired by Angels

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:16:31 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin was acquired by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Wednesday, May 11, for P Adam McCreery. Chacin is expected to start for the Angels Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin has more K's than innings this season, but his last start earned him a rough 5.40 ERA. He probably won't have a great ERA in the AL, but the K's and pitcher's park are good signs. He's worth a waiver claim in AL-only leagues.

Braves | Williams Perez likely to go Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 10:37:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez is likely to start Wednesday, May 11, with projected SP Jhoulys Chacin likely to be traded.

Fantasy Tip: Perez has a 5.11 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP and doesn't strike many out. He's not a good streamer against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Angels | Jhoulys Chacin headed to Angels

Wed, 11 May 2016 10:37:14 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin is part of a deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim that is close to completion Wednesday, May 11. He was scheduled to start for the Braves Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin's 5.40 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in the National League and in pitcher's park doesn't look good, right? His ERA is skewed by an eight-run outing in his last start, and he had a decent 3.27 mark entering the shelling. That three ERA probably won't translate in the AL, but he will remain in a pitcher's park. He has 27 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings, and there's plenty to like in AL-only and deep mixed leagues. The team has been pounded by injuries, and he'll have plenty of slack in the rotation.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin bombed Wednesday

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:44:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin allowed eight runs on seven hits (four home runs) while walking four in 4 2/3 innings to lose to the New York Mets Thursday, May 4. He had not allowed a home run since Sept. 21 of last year, a span of 31 innings. Chacin also struck out four but his ERA went up to 5.40 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin struck out eight in his first start this year but has since declined in his strikeout totals each time out. The upside on this bad Braves team is almost non-existent, so keep Chacin relegated to deep NL-only leagues and daily streams.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin earns victory Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 19:46:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits over five innings in a victory over the Boston Red Sox Thursday, April 28, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin is a decent option for owners in NL-only fantasy leagues and is worth considering as a value play for daily contests, with 23 strikeouts through 22 innings over his first four starts. He is scheduled to make his next start against the New York Mets Tuesday, May 3.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin looks to stay hot

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 21:34:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin is scheduled to start Thursday, April 28, against the Boston Red Sox. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his past three starts.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin has emerged as a solid NL-only fantasy league option, but mixed leaguers still need to see a little bit more before taking a chance on him. Chacin has also served as a nice DFS value to this point.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin tremendous in debut

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 22:58:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin made his season debut Tuesday, April 12, against the Washington Nationals. He scattered five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin threw 52 of his 69 pitches for strikes. Recalled from Class AAA Gwinnett earlier in the day, Chacin could stick around in Atlanta if he continues to throw this effectively, but fantasy owners will want to see more before investing in him.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin to debut Tuesday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 10:06:36 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin, the team's fifth starter, will be called up from Class AAA to make his season debut against the Washington Nationals Tuesday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin has mediocre command and doesn't fan many hitters, so his fantasy upside is limited to mainly deep NL-only leagues. He won't be attractive as a deep sleeper in daily contests next week against the Nats, either.

Braves | Mike Foltynewicz optioned

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 10:42:51 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz was optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett Wednesday, March 30, leaving SPs Jhoulys Chacin, Williams Perez and John Gant fighting for the final two starting rotation spots. Foltynewicz had an 8.31 ERA this spring in three outings, and he had only gone 3 2/3 innings in his longest start. He was behind in camp due to a blood clot issue in his arm that required a portion of his rib to be removed.

Fantasy Tip: Folty should be back in Atlanta's rotation by late April or early May when he's ready. In the meantime, there's not much to like for fantasy owners out of Chacin, Perez or Gant. Mixed leaguers should stay away.
