Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez resting

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:50:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. OF Allen Craig is starting in left field and hitting seventh in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting just .118 (2-for-17) to start the season. In what was a rough 2014 season for him, he batted only .208 (71-for-341) with five of his eight home runs against right-handers. Consider Craig a low-end outfield option at FantasyScore today.

Red Sox | Allen Craig in the lineup

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 09:39:08 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig is starting at first base Wednesday, April 15, against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of your cap) has mashed against lefties in his career, but we need to see evidence he's over the foot issues before using him on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez, Shane Victorino out

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 09:42:11 -0700

Boston Red Sox OFs Hanley Ramirez and Shane Victorino are not in the starting lineup Saturday, April 11. OF Daniel Nava is starting in left field, while OF Allen Craig is starting in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Nava ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) have not seen many at bats this season but could be cheaper options for owners on FantasyScore to consider Saturday.

Red Sox | Allen Craig staying put

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:38:51 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig, who can play as many as five positions, seems primed to stay with the Red Sox, even though he seems to be out of a spot currently. There are no ongoing trade talks surrounding Craig, according to a major league source with knowledge of Boston's thinking. However, trade talk could pick up around Craig in the coming weeks as teams cut down their rosters. Craig is likely to make the opening day roster as a bench guy, and he's looked far better at the plate this spring than in the final two months of 2014.

Fantasy Tip: Craig is a man without a job as of now, but he could eventually see more playing time as injuries and poor performance take their toll. If Craig rebounds at the plate and an opportunity opens up for steady playing time in 2015, he'll be a sneaky waiver wire addition in mixed leagues. For now, he's strictly an AL-only piece, though.

Red Sox | Allen Craig making case for spot

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 15:34:40 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig is hitting .276 in 36 spring at-bats, and he's looking more comfortable in his recovery from a Lisfranc injury to his left foot in 2014 that left him hitting just .128 in 29 games with the Red Sox after a summer trade. OF Shane Victorino is expected to be the starting right fielder, if healthy, but the team is still evaluating his readiness in camp. OF Daniel Nava is a lock for a roster spot as the main lefty bat off the bench. Craig may be out of a chance for a spot unless OF Rusney Castillo (oblique) opens up in the minors. "He's in great shape, and the foot's not an issue. He's taking better swings and having more consistent at-bats. (That time) beyond spring training is going to get here. I don't know how else we can go about it," manager John Farrell said.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Craig earns a roster spot for opening day, he's unlikely to see consistent playing time unless an injury opens up more playing time in the outfield. For that reason alone, Craig should only be considered in AL-only leagues, for now.

Giants | Allen Craig not an option in San Fran

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 13:34:48 -0800

Boston Red Sox OF/1B Allen Craig doesn't interest the San Francisco Giants because the team's asking price is more than the Giants are willing to accept.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants lost Hunter Pence (forearm) for a couple of months, but Craig doesn't interest them unless he were dirt cheap to acquire. Craig is just a year removed from a .315-13-97 season and a historic mark of a .454 batting average with runners in scoring position. He turns 31 this season and still has the potential to have a .280-15-90 impact on another team. Monitor his situation throughout spring training.

Red Sox | Allen Craig, Daniel Nava battling

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 11:53:42 -0800

Boston Red Sox OFs Allen Craig and Daniel Nava are basically competing for one roster spot this spring, unless the Red Sox trade OF Shane Victorino and the $13 million left on his deal. Craig and Nava both play the outfield and first base. Nava excelled against righties (.293 average/.372 on-base percentage), and Craig had what the Red Sox hope was an outlier year last season (.128 in 29 games after being traded to them).

Fantasy Tip: A lot will depend on how Craig and Nava fare this spring in camp. Craig's injuries likely played a big part in his off season in 2014, and he remains the player with more fantasy upside if you're taking a shot in the later rounds of your mixed league.

Red Sox | Allen Craig healthy

Sat, 24 Jan 2015 14:33:57 -0800

Boston Red Sox OF Allen Craig feels he has progressed this offseason and thinks his down year in 2014 was due largely to a foot injury that plagued him the previous offseason. "I think my foot injury definitely impacted my preparation for last year," Craig said. "My foot felt good for the majority of the season, but it just impacted some leg strength and this and that. I feel really good physically and I've had time to lift (weights) and get ready and work on some things mechanically."
