Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton lights it up again

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:06:31 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton finished 3-for-5, including a two-run homer and an RBI single, against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Over the last 10 games, Stanton is 16-for-40 with three home runs and 11 RBI to go along with 10 runs scored. It is encouraging to see him do this on the road - where he was batting .202 prior to tonight's game - because the first nine games of this recent stretch were all in Miami. Stanton appears to be past the injuries that had dogged him earlier this season and looks well on his way to returning to elite status.

Marlins | Ichiro Suzuki leading off

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 11:21:05 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki is starting in right field and hitting leadoff against Detroit Tigers SP Mike Pelfrey Tuesday, June 28. OF Giancarlo Stanton is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park and is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro has done nothing but hit this year at 42 years of age. He's sporting a .336/.412/.377 slash line but has no home runs, nine RBI and seven steals. In daily formats, he's not a candidate to put up a huge statline even when hitting leadoff, so he remains more of a low-end pick. With Stanton rediscovering his stroke of late, he should be used everywhere.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton on the rebound

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:46:54 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton bottomed out at .192 with a .714 OPS June 12. Stanton was bothered by right knee soreness in spring training, and that led to his swing getting out of sync as he compensated with his upper body, causing recent soreness in his right side. Manager Don Mattingly predicted last week that Stanton was about to get hot, and the outfielder collected six hits in 12 at-bats in the three-game set against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: A hot streak cannot come a moment too soon for Stanton's nervous fantasy owners. He is supposed to carry fantasy teams, but right now he is weighing many down like an anchor. You can't trade him, as his fantasy value is at its nadir, and you certainly cannot ever considering dropping him. Wait it out and hope Donnie Baseball's prediction is correct.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton turning corner?

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 13:58:14 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton has six hits in the series against the Colorado Rockies, all singles. His average now stands at .211.

Fantasy Tip: Granted, that's not the best news you want to hear, but Stanton is hitting at least. That's what makes it so hard to sit this slugger, for fear that Stanton's bat will suddenly explode. Wait and see if this upturn is an aberration or a sign of good things to come.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton out of the lineup

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 10:05:04 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 15, with OF Ichiro Suzuki leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton is sitting against his second straight right-hander in what has been the worst slump of his career. He's hitting .119 in June and .194 on the year. Suzuki is hitting .412 this month, but singles hitters don't do a lot of damage in DFS. He's a low-end option against Luis Perdomo.

Marlins | Giancarlo Stanton continues to struggle

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 12:30:38 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton hit .293 with a .662 slugging percentage against fly balls in 2015, with a 23.9% miss rate. This season, Stanton is at .200 (.411 slugging, 31.3% miss rate).

Fantasy Tip: This is further evidence that Stanton continues to scrape rock bottom and sink heavily. Stanton just appears lost at the plate. Do you continue to play him in fantasy? You may want to avoid him in DFS games, but the temptation is there to keep him in your lineup in regular leagues. You never know when the bat will suddenly heat up.
