Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa is back in the lineup and batting eighth Wednesday, July 9, against the Baltimore Orioles. It is his first start since Friday, June 29.
Fantasy Tip: Espinosa makes for a solid daily game budget play today. His value in year-long formats is dwindling from lack of playing time, though.

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa remains on the bench for the fifth straight game Wednesday, July 2, even though manager Matt Williams has been wanting to put him back in the lineup soon. Williams said none of the other infielders needed the day off Wednesday, so Espinosa is again the odd-man out.
Fantasy Tip: We warned you that Espinosa would likely be the odd-man out when Bryce Harper returned from his injury, and so far, that has been exactly the case. Espinosa has basically become an NL-only commodity at best.

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa took ground balls at shortstop Tuesday, July 1.
Fantasy Tip: The Nationals are going to get creative with their lineup and schedule routine days off to keep players fresh. The versatile Espinosa boasts a power-speed combo but has never been able to hit for a consistent batting average. With fewer projected at-bats going forward, he is an NL-only option at this stage.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman is back at third base Monday, June 30, with OF Bryce Harper back from the disabled list and starting in left field. 2B Anthony Rendon is moving back to second base, and 2B Danny Espinosa is on the bench. Zimmerman made strong throws from a three-quarters release point during infield practice at third base.
Fantasy Tip: As was mentioned earlier, Espinosa is the biggest loser with Harper returning from the DL. Unless another regular needs rest, expect Espinosa to stay on the bench in the regular lineup.

The Washington Nationals activated OF Bryce Harper (thumb) from the disabled list Monday, June 30, and optioned RP Xavier Avery to Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: The return of Harper is expected to push Ryan Zimmerman back to third base and possibly some time at first base. Manager Matt Williams will mix and match when he wants to rest players. The biggest loser of Harper's return is probably Danny Espinosa, though.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman will return to third base once OF Bryce Harper (thumb) is activated from the 15-day disabled list. 2B Anthony Rendon will move back to second base, and 2B Danny Espinosa will go to the bench. Zimmerman is expected to continue to see time at left field and first base.

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa could be made available at the trade deadline when OF Bryce Harper returns from the disabled list. Sources indicate 3B Ryan Zimmerman would play third base and 2B Anthony Rendon would go to second.

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman will play some third base, first base and left field when OF Bryce Harper (thumb) returns from the disabled list, according to manager Matt Williams. 2B Anthony Rendon will play third and second. The plan is to move players around based on matchups and rest. "That's what you want," Williams said. "So I can give Denard a day, or Jayson a day. Then you can certainly do those types of things. It's been difficult so far this season, because we've had so many guys injured. But it is what it is, and sometimes you have to deal with it. But it could potentially allow us to give some guys some rest, too."
Fantasy Tip: Harper's return is still at least several weeks away. The loser when Harper returns, no matter how you slice it, will likely be Danny Espinosa. He'll essentially return to the role of glorified utility man.

The Washington Nationals would like to see 2B Danny Espinosa stand further from the plate so pitchers can't pound him with inside pitches. Espinosa is on the bench again Wednesday, May 28, in favor of INF Kevin Frandsen.

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams said Tuesday, May 27, that the daily decision right now on 2B Danny Espinosa has little to do with batter-pitcher matchups. "It goes beyond that at this point," Williams said. "He's making a chance (to his swing). So, during the course of a season, it's difficult to make a change if you're in the lineup every day. Because what we want for him is success. And to make that change during the course of a season is difficult, because you revert right back to the game situation. You can't stand there and think about it while that guy is throwing 95 mph at you. It just won't work."
