Nationals | Danny Espinosa could see early action

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 07:26:10 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa could play second base regularly if 2B/SS Yunel Escobar shifts to third with 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) injured.

Fantasy Tip: Espinosa ($2,100, 4.2% of your cap) has some pop that could make him an early gem on FantasyScore when he's in the lineup.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon still has pain

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 11:20:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B/2B Anthony Rendon (knee) said he still can't swing a bat without experiencing pain in his knee. "It's still lingering. There is no point in pushing it right now and going back to square one during the season," Rendon said. "We might as well fix it right now rather than later." Rendon may not be ready for opening day, and 3B Ian Stewart is the leading candidate to fill in at the hot corner if that's the case. Stewart has played regularly this spring with Rendon down, and he has hit .323 with three home runs and four RBI. INFs Danny Espinosa and Kevin Frandsen are other options.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon is a player that is often taken at the tail end of the first round in standard 12-team mixed leagues heading into 2015, and his eligibility at both third and second base are very attractive. Keep an eye on his status as spring training comes to a close. But his minor knee injury really shouldn't cause his draft value to fluctuate much.

Nationals | Danny Espinosa to hit right-handed

Tue, 10 Feb 2015 14:29:29 -0800

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa will hit exclusively right-handed during spring training this year, according to two baseball sources. Espinosa has been a switch hitter since entering the majors in 2010, but he's had way more success from the right side. He has a career average of .271 from the right side and a .213 average from the left side. However, he's had only 13 career at-bats against righties from the right side of the plate. Last year, he hit .301 with three home runs, 10 RBI and a .374 on-base percentage hitting right-handed.

Nationals | Danny Espinosa leading race for starting 2B

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 15:54:33 -0800

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa is considered the leading candidate to open the 2015 season as the team's starting second baseman. The team may also consider 3B Anthony Rendon, if they acquire a third baseman, and the Nationals have also been rumored to be looking outside the organization for a second baseman.

Washington Nationals 2B Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 6. In his place at second base is 2B Danny Espinosa.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is getting a day of rest against a left-handed pitcher. Make sure you take him out of your daily lineups today.

Nationals | Acquire Asdrubal Cabrera

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 12:02:39 -0700

The Washington Nationals have acquired SS Asdrubal Cabrera from the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera figures to bat lower in the order with the Nationals, which will potentially hinder his counting stats. A new location could help Cabrera turn his season around, though. He should play the keystone position and should be owned in all NL-only leagues and deep mixed formats. He is worth considering in standard mixed leagues. Danny Espinosa will lose playing time, and the deal likely confirms the seriousness of Ryan Zimmerman's hamstring tear. Any further fantasy contribution from Zimmerman in 2014 should be considered a bonus. Anthony Rendon projects to continue manning the hot corner, which after all, is his natural position.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman has serious injury

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 06:15:57 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) has a Grade 3 hamstring strain, according to two baseball sources.

Fantasy Tip: If the reports are confirmed, Zimmerman is likely done for the season. Anthony Rendon has taken over at third base, but second base has been a platoon of Danny Espinosa, Zach Walters and Kevin Frandsen. Espinosa has the only real value, in NL-only leagues, but the team could address second base at the trade deadline.

Nationals | 2B will be matchup-based

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:34:02 -0700

Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa and Zach Walters will keep splitting time based on matchups and hot-hand plays, according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: This adds shakiness to Espinosa's value, along with the possibility of the Nats adding a more stable 2B, like Aaron Hill.
