Rangers | Derek Holland has microfracture surgery

Tue, 14 Jan 2014 17:03:55 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) has undergone microfracture surgery to fix cartilage behind his left knee cap. Former Rangers SP Scott Feldman had microfracture surgery on his knee after the 2010 season and didn't return for eight months. However, Holland's recovery may not be as long because his injured cartilage was behind the knee cap and not to a weight-bearing bone like Feldman's.

Rangers | Derek Holland had freak accident

Fri, 10 Jan 2014 15:58:57 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) suffered a "freak accident" at his home that led to cartilage damage in his left knee, and he'll undergo arthroscopic surgery on it Friday, Jan. 10. He'll be out until midseason. "I'm devastated by this injury," Holland said. "It was a freak accident at home that resulted in a hard fall on my knee. As upsetting as this is, my goal is to begin rehab and get back on the mound as quickly as possible." General manager Jon Daniels said Holland fell on the stairs at his home. Holland has no long-term damage to his anterior or medial collateral ligaments. SPs Robbie Ross and Nick Tepesch are candidates to enter the rotation in the first half of the year.

Rangers | Derek Holland has surgery

Fri, 10 Jan 2014 15:20:19 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) will not be ready for the start of the regular season after undergoing surgery to fix cartilage in his left knee. He's expected to return around midseason.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if this increases Texas' urgency to go after Japanese pitching sensation Masahiro Tanaka or go after one of the few remaining big-name free agents on the market. Holland can be ignored in most leagues, but he may be a stash option in AL-only or cavernous mixed formats with ample DL slots.

Rangers | Derek Holland more focused

Sat, 01 Jun 2013 09:03:44 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland seems more focused this season and is attacking hitters more often on the mound. He lowered his ERA on the year to 2.81 and picked up his fourth win of the month by beating the Kansas City Royals Friday, May 31. "I don't think I've seen him this focused," C A.J. Pierzynski said. "It always seemed like there was some kind of distraction. He's more comfortable. It's part of being a big leaguer and growing up"
