Rangers | Derek Holland won't be back before break

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:32:42 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) is not with the team during their road trip, and manager Jeff Banister said it's unlikely that Holland will pitch before the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has a 5.20 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and only 5.3 strikeouts per nine innings for the Rangers this year in 14 starts. His inability to miss bats frequently doesn't make him very attractive to fantasy owners outside of AL-only leagues when he's healthy and in the rotation.

Rangers | Derek Holland placed on DL

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 13:48:27 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with should inflammation Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: Holland's fantasy value is hanging by a thread, and he is only viable as a stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only setups given his 5.20 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 5.3 K/9 through 14 starts. Stay tuned for updates.

Rangers | Derek Holland doesn't last long

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 23:51:52 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland allowed five runs -- four earned -- on four hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, June 15. He walked three and struck out three.

Fantasy Tip: This was Holland's second poor outing in a row. After yielding just seven runs in 25 2/3 innings over his previous four starts, Holland has surrendered nine earned runs in 8 2/3 innings during his last two. The southpaw has been all over the map this season, making him someone that's really only worth the headache in AL-only setups.

Rangers | Derek Holland pushed back

Wed, 25 May 2016 11:50:10 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland will have his next start pushed back two days to Tuesday, May 31, to keep everyone in the rotation on a five-day schedule.

Fantasy Tip: Holland will take on the Cleveland Indians, and he has been better of late. He has lowered his ERA nearly a run to 5.21 in his last two starts. He'll be pitching on an entire week's worth of rest, and rust could be an issue. He's not a strong option outside of AL-only depth for now.

Rangers | Yu Darvish in play for Sunday

Wed, 18 May 2016 10:07:38 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) could possibly make his first start of the season Sunday, May 22, against the Houston Astros. SP Derek Holland is the probable starter for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has struggled, and the team could bump him from the rotation or bump Saturday's starter Cesar Ramos and put Holland there. Darvish is a fantasy ace and should be activated whenever he's ready. As for Holland and Ramos, they're AL-only depth at this point.

Rangers | Derek Holland has outing to forget

Thu, 05 May 2016 18:23:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (3-2) allowed a career-high 11 runs on 11 hits over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, May 5, with three walks and no strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This was by far Holland's worst start of 2016 and the first outing this season where he did not make it through at least six innings. He will look to bounce back in his next start versus the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, May 10.

MLB | Baltimore vs. Texas rained out

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:33:31 -0700

The game between Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright and Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland has been rained out Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: The game has been rescheduled for June 20. Remember to remove all Baltimore and Texas players from your daily fantasy lineups.

Rangers | Derek Holland OK in first start

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 08:55:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland had an OK season debut Thursday, April 7, versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, going five innings and surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks. He also had five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Holland exhibited very notable potential as recent as the end of the 2014 season, but his ceiling appears to be on a downward trend since then. At this point, the veteran southpaw should just remain on fantasy radars until he gets into a groove. He's more suited for AL-only leagues right now.

Rangers | Derek Holland shines

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 14:38:19 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland threw five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts during his spring training start against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, March 23.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has been limited to just 95 2/3 innings through 16 appearances over the past two seasons, so he is flying under the radar in most mixed drafts. However, his 3.98 ERA, 4.00 FIP, 1.29 WHIP and 7.6 K/9 over 94 games from 2011 through 2013 barely move the needle enough to make him anything other than a late-round flier on draft day. He has more AL-only value.

Rangers | Derek Holland says he's not fat

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 11:01:23 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland said he hasn't gained weight this year despite contradicting reports that suggest he is out of shape. He said he currently weighs 215 pounds, which is the same weight he reported at in 2015. Holland is listed at 193 pounds on the roster. "I feel great the way I am. I'm comfortable and very confident with where I am. I am not chubby. I joked about it, but it's something that pisses me off, actually," Holland said.

Fantasy Tip: Plenty of risk with Holland after injuries have ruined his last two seasons. He can be extremely good or extremely bad when he's healthy, which shows further risk. The upside is now gone, but he's not a bad target for innings if he's healthy late in deep mixed affairs.
