Rangers | Derek Holland may be pushed back

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 09:48:40 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) might not be ready to start in the first three days of the regular season, according to manager Jeff Bannister. Bannister said having Holland start the home opener "would not be bad thing."

Fantasy Tip: Holland appears to be fine in relation to the shoulder injury he's dealt with early in spring. After a freak leg injury that ruined his 2014 season, Holland will come into 2015 fantasy baseball drafts as a sleeper worth taking a chance on in the later rounds.

Rangers | Derek Holland playing long toss

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 09:50:25 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) continues to play long toss after missing Sunday, March 1, with shoulder soreness. Holland isn't expected to make his spring training debut in a game until early next week.

Fantasy Tip: Holland made just five starts last year because of a torn knee ligament, so seeing him dealing with an injury this early in camp isn't the best sign. However, the injury doesn't appear to be serious, and if he doesn't have anymore setbacks, he should have plenty of time before the start of the regular season. Holland, if fully healthy, could be a nice value pick late in deep mixed leagues.

Rangers | Derek Holland's shoulder fine

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 10:02:30 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) said his left shoulder has responded well to treatment, and he'll likely throw a bullpen later this week before making his Cactus League debut. Holland was scratched from his outing in an intrasquad game Sunday, March 1, because of his shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Keep a close eye on Holland this spring and how he bounced back from his injury-plagued 2014 season. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks with his shoulder, Holland will likely be a nice sleeper candidate at the end of mixed league drafts.

Rangers | Derek Holland scratched

Sun, 01 Mar 2015 07:42:18 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) has been scratched from the exhibition game Sunday, March 1, because of soreness in his shoulder. Holland said he will be fine and is taking a day off.

Fantasy Tip: It does not appear like Holland is dealing with anything serious, but owners should watch the situation over the next few days. Owners in deeper mixed league may consider selecting Holland in one of the later rounds of drafts if he stays healthy.

Rangers | Derek Holland eager to bounce back

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 11:37:59 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) has already thrown off a mound six times this spring, and he is eager to start spring training after tearing cartilage in his left knee a week into the 2014 season. "I feel great," Holland said. "I worked my tail off this winter and the training staff did a great job getting me ready. I feel happy and confident. I expect big things this year." Holland returned last year to go 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in six games.

Fantasy Tip: Ever since his breakout 2011 campaing, Holland has been rather lackluster. The knee ailment is fresh in everyone's minds, meaning you'll likely be able to get a real nice injury discount on the lefty late in deep mixed drafts. Texas isn't the best environment for a pitcher, but at Holland's price this year, it's hard not to take a stab at him.

Rangers | Texas continuing to look for starting pitching

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 10:41:32 -0800

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team is continuing to look for starting pitching even after the acquisition of SP Ross Detwiler. "We've got a number of internal options coming to compete for a spot, all of them that we like," Daniels said. "But you can never have enough and we'll continue having conversations about adding another starter." The Rangers already have SPs Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Detwiler, Nick Martinez and Nick Tepesch on their roster and minor league SPs Alex Gonzalez and Luke Jackson could also compete for a job during spring training.
