Rangers | Derek Holland blanks Orioles

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 19:55:59 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland shut out the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, Aug. 30, allowing three hits and striking out 11.

Fantasy Tip: Holland ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) has been solid since making his injury-delayed debut this year, and he has allowed two runs or less in three of his four starts. He is worth considering as a value play at FantasyScore.

Rangers | Derek Holland earns win Wednesday

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 17:43:27 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (1-1) allowed two runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in a victory over the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, Aug. 19, with no walks and six strikeouts. It was Holland's first outing since being activated from the disabled list due to a shoulder injury.

Fantasy Tip: According to Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon, Holland ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) was throwing 92-93 mph out of the gate and he carried a shutout into the fifth inning. He is expected to make his next start against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Rangers | Derek Holland starting Wednesday

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 14:28:00 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) is starting against the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: View Holland ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) as an incredibly risky start in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He has pitched just 38 innings over the past two seasons, and he owns a 6.00 ERA through 12 innings over four minor league starts. It would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with Holland outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Rangers | Derek Holland goes far in rehab start

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 05:28:30 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) threw 89 pitches in a rehab start for Class AAA Round Rock Friday, Aug. 15. Holland is nearing a return to the major leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) hasn't started since April 10, and he should be allowed to make a few starts before being considered for FantasyScore purposes.

Rangers | Derek Holland set for rehab start

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 20:38:28 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) is expected to make a fourth minor-league rehab start for Double AA Frisco Friday, Aug. 14.The goal is for Holland to make 75-80 pitches. He is expected to need at least one more start after Friday before the team considers bringing him back.

Fantasy Tip: On this timetable Holland should be avoided in FantasyScore until at least early September, when he should have a game or two under his belt at the big-league level to prove his health without any setbacks.

Rangers | Derek Holland slated for two more starts

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 15:59:03 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) is likely to have at least two more rehab starts before he joins the starting rotation, according to general manager Jon Daniels. He will pitch again for Class AA Frisco Friday, Aug. 14, and he's expected to throw 75 to 80 pitches. His shoulder looks to be completely healed, and he's shown good arm strength in his rehab outings, averaging 93-95 mph on his fastball in his last two outings. However, he's walked five and allowed a .343 opponent's batting average in seven innings of rehab work so far.

Fantasy Tip: Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) should make an appearance in Texas' rotation sometime next month, but with little time left in the season, he won't have much fantasy value, aside from AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Derek Holland makes rehab start

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:45:25 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) tossed two innings for Class AAA Round Rock Tuesday, Aug. 4, and gave up three hits, three walks and two runs (one earned). His fastball velocity was regularly at 95 mph. Manager Jeff Bannister said he was encouraged by Holland's outing. Holland is now scheduled to throw for Class AA Frisco Sunday, Aug. 9, and throw 60 to 70 pitches. He's expected to make at least two or three more rehab starts before the Rangers consider activating him.

Fantasy Tip: Stash Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) now if you're in a really deep mixed league or AL-only format and can use some pitching help down the stretch. There's no guarantee Holland will be that effective for the remainder of 2015, though, so keep your expectations tempered.

Rangers | Derek Holland will begin rehab Thursday

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:25:07 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) made it through a bullpen session Monday, July 27, without any issues, and he is still scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday, July 30. Holland is expected to begin at two innings and 30 pitches, but the Rangers haven't announced any details.

Fantasy Tip: Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is still a long way from a return, and he should be left on waiver wires in everything but deeper AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Derek Holland back in September?

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:05:51 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) threw in the bullpen Friday, July 17, and the team has discussed the possibility of bringing him back as a reliever. However, his rehab process will continue to be as a starter, and he might not be back until September if that's the case.

Fantasy Tip: It's been a long and arduous rehab for Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), and that could continue for much of the second half of the season. He won't have any fantasy value as a reliever, so it's safe to say that he's unlikely to make any kind of impact for fantasy owners until 2016. Only stash him in the deepest of AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Derek Holland to throw Saturday

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 17:07:58 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, July 18, and he could throw live batting practice after that. His next step could be to go on a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: When he's fully healthy, Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is likely to immediately re-enter the starting rotation, making him valuable in deep mixed and AL leagues to start. Take a wait-and-see approach with him on FantasyScore.
