So protecting the ball is the primary thing we have to do. Until we do that, we're not going to be very good." QB Drew Bledsoe has thrown seven interceptions and lost one fumble so far this year.

"To be honest, I have no problem people talking up Tony, and he deserves to be talked about," Bledsoe said. "I think he has a long future in the league, but from my standpoint, I'm approaching this as I'm getting ready to play the season. And I'm doing everything I can to make sure that as the quarterback here I'm giving us the best chance to win the ballgame." Head coach Bill Parcells headed off talk of a quarterback controversy Monday, Aug. 14, by saying Bledsoe will start the Sept. 10 opener at Jacksonville, barring injury. Parcells did not say Bledsoe would start next week's preseason game at Shreveport, La., against New Orleans, but only because the coaching staff has not gone over the plan yet. Romo said he has thought about his future, especially with the ongoing talks. "I want to be a Dallas Cowboy," Romo said. "I like it here. The organization has been great to me. I would love to say I spent all my years as a Dallas Cowboy and finish my career here. That would be a highlight."

When asked if it would have been wise to grab another veteran quarterback, head coach Bill Parcells said, " You can't find `em. You just can't. I've been trying for four years here to get (quarterbacks) and you can't find them, and we're not in position to pick `em (in the draft). It's a big dilemma. There's not enough to go around and not many to pick from. Sometimes guys have good names, but you don't like `em."

Head coach Bill Parcells plans to give Romo plenty of playing time this preseason, something he's been reluctant to do in the past. "Had we just thrown him to the wolves," said Parcells. Cowboys | Bledsoe ready for the Owens' challenge

Mon, 10 Jul 2006 17:19:45 -0700

Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys QB Drew Bledsoe is ready for the challenge and opportunity of having WR Terrell Owens as a teammate. The addition of Terrell Owens should make Bledsoe's life easier, at least between the whistles. Owens is still one of the NFL's most electrifying players, and when he's atop his game, he can make just about any quarterback look good. However, Owens has also had his share of problems with quarterbacks. Bledsoe said he understands that wide receivers want the ball, and added he prefers it that way over the contrary. "To me, I want my receivers to want the football on every play," Bledsoe said this summer. "That's the mentality of the great wide receivers. They want the ball all the time because they think they're going to make the best play. In his (Owens') case, he is one of the best players in the game. It's going to be my job to get him the football. It's something I look forward to."

Cowboys QB Drew Bledsoe is the starting quarterback, and barring injury, the team would go with either QBs Tony Romo or Drew Henson.
