Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz is not stretched out enough to be a candidate for starting rotation depth. SPs Josh Lindblom and Arnold Leon are the main candidates if the team needs a spot starter, with Lindblom being the first choice.
Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz remains an intriguing option for AL-only managers in the long term, but Lindblom is your best bet if you're looking for a shorter-term fix.

The Oakland Athletics have had to shake up their rotation plans due to a rainout Tuesday, April 1, and they might recall a starting option from Triple-A Sacramento for the second game of a day-night doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, April 2. Candidates include Ps Josh Lindblom, Arnold Leon and Joe Savery. The team could also consider Drew Pomeranz for the spot start.

Oakland Athletics RP Joe Savery is being stretched out to be able to take on more innings out of the bullpen, not to start. He's in the mix to be the team's long reliever alongside P Josh Lindblom.

Oakland Athletics RPs Jim Johnson, Luke Gregerson, Sean Doolittle and Dan Otero are each considered locks for the bullpen for manager Bob Melvin. Left-handed RP Fernando Abad is also expected to get one of the vacant bullpen spot, with RP Evan Scribner looking like a good bet for another spot as a long reliever. That likely leaves on spot from a group of Ps Drew Pomeranz, Josh Lindblom, Joe Savery and Arnold Leon. Lindblom is believed to have the edge in the battle.

Oakland Athletics SPs A.J. Griffin and Dan Straily might win the final two spots in the team's rotation, but they will have competition. SP Drew Pomeranz will be stretched out during spring training, and he is hopeful of winning a rotation spot. SP Tommy Milone is also hopeful of pushing his way into the mix and re-gaining his spot in the rotation. P Josh Lindblom is also expected to be under consideration, although he is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Sacramento.

The Texas Rangers acquired OF Michael Choice and INF Chris Bostick from the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, Dec. 3, in exchange for OF Craig Gentry and SP Josh Lindblom. Choice will be on the major league roster while Bostick has been assigned to Single-A Myrtle Beach. Choice was selected 10th overall in the 2010 draft by the Athletics and made his major league debut in September by going 5-for-18 (.278) in nine games. "Michael is a guy we followed in his amateur days literally down the block," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He has a chance to hit and hit for power, is athletic and can play all three outfield spots."

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) is likely to be scratched from his next start Monday, Aug. 19, and he'll probably receive an injection this weekend while waiting for a second opinion on his MRI exam. SP Ross Wolf is a candidate to take the start out of the bullpen, and SP Josh Lindblom is another option in the minors.
Fantasy Tip: Wolf is the better option because he's already on the roster, but don't rule out Lindblom. Both options are only candidates to own in AL-only leagues if they enter the rotation.
