Dodgers | No setbacks for Justin Turner

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 14:02:50 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) said he's no setbacks after microfracture surgery on his left knee. He's expecting to be 100% healthy for opening day and has been hitting for two weeks and started running last week, with no swelling or pain. Turner is confident the surgery will fix the arthritic limitations that caused him to take two days off each week the last two years.

Fantasy Tip: Turner should open as the Dodgers starting third baseman unless he suffers a setback in spring training. A tweaked batting stance was to thank for his career year in 2015, but don't pay too high of a fantasy price in 2016 for his numbers last season.

Dodgers | Justin Turner could play in opener

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 07:27:22 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) said his rehab from microfracture surgery on his left knee is going well. He is optimistic that he will be able to play Opening Day.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Turner is able to play in the season opener, he is unlikely to be an everyday player at first as the team brings him along slowly. If he can remain healthy, he makes a serviceable third base option from a fantasy standpoint, after hitting .294 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 2015. Howie Kendrick, Chase Utley, Kike Hernandez and Alex Guerrero could vie for time at the hot corner if Turner is not ready for Opening Day.

Dodgers | Justin Turner signs one-year deal

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 10:40:15 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner avoided arbitration and signed a one-year, $5.1 million deal Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Turner was a revelation in 2015 for the Dodgers, easily recording the best season of his career as he hit .294 with 16 home runs and 60 RBI. As long as he can stay healthy, owners can expect Turner to finish somewhere in the neighborhood of those stats again while serving as a modest presence in the middle of the batting order.

Dodgers | Justin Turner making progress

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 15:44:20 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) is off crutches and has been cleared to throw and hit. He appears on track to be ready in time for spring training, barring any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Turner had microfracture left knee surgery on Oct. 21 so this is good news for the former New York Met. As long as he is healthy at the onset of the season, Turner could be a real fine third baseman for fantasy purposes, after finishing 2015 with a .294 batting average to go with a career-high 16 home runs and 60 RBI in 126 games.

Dodgers | Justin Turner had microfracture surgery

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 12:05:13 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee last month. A piece of cartilage had torn off on the outside part of his knee, and Turner thinks that occurred in the playoffs. He'll be on crutches for two to four more weeks and is expected to start running at full strength in three months. Turner said he'll be 100% well before spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Turner had a breakout year with the Blue in a starting role and hit .294 with a career-high 16 home runs and 60 RBI mainly at third base. His knee surgery is definitely concerning for a player that before 2015 had only had 400-plus plate appearance once in his career, although that was mainly because he was a backup. Regardless, Turner is a risk to repeat the fine season he just had, especially since the Dodgers could bring in more bodies to compete at third base.

Dodgers | Justin Turner to go under knife

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 05:15:12 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Justin Turner (knee) will undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday, Oct. 21, to remove loose bodies from his left knee. He'll be ready in time for spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Turner is an intriguing fantasy commodity entering next year. The 30-year-old doubled his five-year career total with 16 homers this season. There aren't a lot of people that will believe he can repeat that. So is he a one-year wonder or a steal when he slips in the middle of drafts? It's worth the risk to find out.

Dodgers | Justin Turner starting Game 5

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 12:23:58 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) is starting Game 5 of the National League Division Series against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Turner ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has been a key offensive cog for the Dodgers in the NLDS with four doubles, three RBI and a .467/.500/.733 slash line. He is worth a long look at FantasyScore, especially as an off-the-radar play at a loaded third base position.

Dodgers | Justin Turner expected to play Game 5

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 15:15:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) has been playing through knee pain for the majority of the season, but he is expected to play in Game 5 of the National League Division Series against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Thursday, Oct. 15, according to manager Don Mattingly.

Fantasy Tip: Turner ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is scorching hot through the first four games of the series with a .467/.500/.733 slash line, four doubles and three RBI. While the injury hasn't impacted his hitting so far, Turner is clearly playing at less than 100%, so there is added risk to his fantasy stock. Also, you'll want to make sure he is starting Thursday, if you're planning to use him at FantasyScore.

Dodgers | Justin Turner resting Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:10:41 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner is not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly Sunday, Oct. 4. INF Alex Guerrero will play the hot corner and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Guerrero ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is 9-for-26 (.346) with five RBIs since Sept. 1, following a dismal July and August. However, he has only homered once since the All-Star break and is just batting .179 at Dodger Stadium this season, so he is a somewhat risky FantasyScore play.

Dodgers | Justin Turner returns to action

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 17:06:16 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (forearm) is batting cleanup against San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly Friday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Turner ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) was sidelined for several days with a swollen forearm caused by getting hit with a pitch. FantasyScore owners should see how he performs in his first game back before considering him for future lineups.
