Athletics | Two A's are red hot at the plate

Thu, 19 May 2016 16:21:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis and 3B Danny Valencia each have 11 RBI in their last six games. In addition, Davis has five homers while Valencia has hit six over that stretch.

Fantasy Tip: Without question, both players are of the must-own variety right now. Davis came into 2016 as an interesting sleeper pick, getting the chance to anchor a lineup after displaying impressive power potential throughout his tenure in Milwaukee, and he's delivered for those who drafted him. Valencia, meanwhile, appears to be over his hamstring issue and is picking up where he left off from last year's impressive second half.

Athletics | Danny Valencia continues hot hitting

Wed, 18 May 2016 18:52:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored against the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 18.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is a must-start option in DFS for as long as he's hitting the cover off the ball. He's 15-for-33 (.454) with six homers and 12 RBIs since returning from the disabled list May 6, and should be rostered in AL-only and deep mixed leagues as well.

Athletics | Danny Valencia homers again

Tue, 17 May 2016 23:52:36 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia went 2-for-5 with his sixth home run of the season Tuesday, May 17, opposite the Texas Rangers. He finished with a run scored and two RBI.

Fantasy Tip: All six homers have come in his last five games, making Valencia someone to watch right now due to his incredibly hot bat. He's proving to be a fine cheap source for power numbers and certainly merits a spot on rosters in deep leagues. The former Minnesota Twin is also someone to have on radars in standard formats as well.

Athletics | Danny Valencia homers three times

Sun, 15 May 2016 16:44:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia hit three home runs and extended his hitting streak to 10 games, finishing 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored in a 7-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is hitting .405 during his hitting streak, and all five of his homers this season have come in the last three games. This production won't continue, but you can ride his hot bat as a source of cap relief in daily formats while it lasts.

Athletics | Danny Valencia homers twice Friday

Fri, 13 May 2016 19:41:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia was playing his first game since returning from a left hamstring injury but showed no ill effects Friday. He should be viewed as an inexpensive yet productive source of salary cap relief at the hot corner for daily fantasy games.

Athletics | Danny Valencia back in lineup

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:07:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting sixth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia had just returned from a DL stint last week, so his owners can breathe a sigh of relief that he's unlikely to return to the sidelines unless he suffers another setback. He's in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak (.360), but he's yet to hit a home run this year. That's bound to change, and if Valencia is out there on the waiver wire in any deep mixed leagues, swoop him up if you need corner infield depth.

Athletics | Danny Valencia still out Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 12:40:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 11. 1B Yonder Alonso is starting at third base again and is hitting seventh against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello. 1B Billy Butler sees another start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia had just returned from a DL stint for the same hamstring late last week, so be prepared for another trip to the disabled list. Stay tuned for updates on his status. Alonso is barely hitting over .200 and doesn't have much pop to speak of, making him a low-end corner infielder to use in daily games. The veteran Butler has a similar profile.

Athletics | Danny Valencia, Jed Lowrie out injured

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:24:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) and 2B Jed Lowrie (foot) are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 10. 1B Yonder Alonso moves to third base and is hitting seventh, while 2B Chris Coghlan is starting at second base and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Sean O'Sullivan. 1B Billy Butler is playing first base and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia just came off the DL for a hammy pull late last week, so this is concerning. Prepare for the worst -- another trip to the DL. Lowrie's X-rays came back negative and he's day-to-day. Act accordingly. Against O'Sullivan, Coghlan, Alonso and Butler could be worth selections as deep sleepers in daily games, but they're long shots to put up big numbers.

Athletics | Danny Valencia departs early

Mon, 09 May 2016 17:12:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) left the game early Monday, May 9, due to left hamstring tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Well, that's unfortunate as Valencia just returned to action this past weekend from a hamstring issue. Chris Coghlan took his place at third base on Monday and could see more at-bats if Valencia is sidelined again.

Athletics | Three A's out for nightcap

Sat, 07 May 2016 14:23:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, OF Coco Crisp and 3B Danny Valencia are out for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, May 7. C Josh Phegley is hitting eighth, 1B Billy Butler is hitting sixth and 3B Chris Coghlan hits fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley has a .310 average on the season and could be a sneaky basement flyer against Ubaldo Jimenez. Cogs is hitting just .155 and .118 in the last seven days. He has four homers and 11 RBI, and the matchup is nice. We could see streaming him tonight. Butler has been a shell of his former self this year, and he's not worth the start.
