Athletics | Danny Valencia could return Friday

Sun, 01 May 2016 07:50:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) is expected to play three rehab games with Class A Stockton this week. He will play in the field Monday, May 2, and Wednesday, May 4, and will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday, May 3. Valencia said he feels completely healthy and expects to be activated from the disabled list Friday, May 6, before the A's begin a series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia's return will likely result in a significant decrease in playing time for INF/OF Chris Coghlan. When healthy, Valencia should be viewed as an option for AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Danny Valencia set for rehab assignment

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:44:14 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) will have a three-game rehab assignment before rejoining the team, manager Bob Melvin said Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Valencia's fantasy value is limited to deep mixed and AL-only formats. He is batting .294 with just two RBI through 14 games this season. However, he will receive full-time at-bats, which should help him maintain a solid fantasy floor. His return will significantly cut into Chris Coghlan's playing time. Stay tuned for updates.

Athletics | Danny Valencia hit off tee

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:44:20 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) hit off a tee Monday, April 25, and is coming along well.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list in the first week of May, so this news indicates he'll be able to return right on schedule. He was performing nicely in the heart of Oakland's batting order despite not having a home run yet, with at least one hit in all but three of his games played thus far. Chris Coghlan has been receiving the playing time at third base with Valencia out.

Athletics | Danny Valencia won't miss much time

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 17:36:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) doesn't consider his strained left hamstring to be a major injury. He thinks he will be ready to resume playing as soon as the minimum number of days for his 15-day DL stint have passed.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is batting .294 with just two RBI through his first 14 games of the regular season. He is not worth stashing outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Danny Valencia a DL candidate

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:10:06 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) could be placed on the disabled list because his injury will likely take more than a few days to heal, but a decision on his status will not be made until after the game Thursday, April 21, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia is off to rough start to 2016 with just five runs and two RBI. He is a fringe own in the majority of seasonal leagues and boasts limited upside. Stay tuned for updates, but outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, Valencia isn't a stash candidate if he hits the DL.

Athletics | Danny Valencia, Yonder Alonso out

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:17:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Chris Coghlan is at third base and hitting sixth, while OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting second against New York Yankees SP Luis Severino. Also, 2B Jed Lowrie moves to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia could miss a few more game, so make sure you have a suitable replacement in place. Canha has a nice lineup position and actually hits better against righties than lefties, so he's worth a cheap flyer in DFS as a deep sleeper. Coghlan is hitting .184 but has a three-game hitting streak. He's a low-end outfield option today.

Athletics | Danny Valencia has hamstring injury

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 18:46:09 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) left the game against the New York Yankees Wednesday, April 20, due to a strained left hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: The severity of Valencia's injury is currently unknown, so keep checking back for updates. If he is forced to miss an extended period of time, expect Jed Lowrie or Chris Coghlan to see action at the hot corner for Oakland.

Athletics | Danny Valencia is raking

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 15:39:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia recorded a home run, a single and a walk in his three trips to the plate Tuesday, March 22. He's now hitting 13-for-31 (.419) this spring with five homers.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia was amongst the American League's biggest surprises in the second half of last year, and it appears he's ready to pick up from where he left off. After being claimed off waivers by the A's from the Blue Jays, Valencia proceeded to hit .284/.356/.530 with 11 home runs and 37 RBI in just 47 games with his new team. Given his stellar spring thus far, Valencia has real potential to be a nice cheap source of power that can be grabbed late in fantasy drafts. Keep him on your radar.

Athletics | Danny Valencia avoids arbitration

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:31:24 -0800

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia avoided arbitration Thursday, Jan. 14, by agreeing to a one-year, $3.15 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia played above his head in 2015, hitting a combined .290 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI with the Toronto Blue Jays and A's. He's likely to serve in a part-time role in Oakland at least against left-handed pitchers. It'll be hard for him to match his numbers, and a full season in Oakland will hurt his power output.

Athletics | Brett Lawrie on the block

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 23:36:08 -0800

Oakland Athletics 2B/3B Brett Lawrie and 3B Danny Valencia are on the trade block after the team acquired SS Jed Lowrie. Both are drawing interest from American League teams, but Lawrie is considered more likely to be dealt.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie still has a lot of potential and is a MI candidate in traditional leagues wherever he plays.
