Astros | Luis Valbuena exits with back tightness

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 19:42:04 -0700

Houston Astros INF Luis Valbuena (back) left the game against the Kansas City Royals Friday, June 24, because of lower back tightness. He was replaced at the hot corner by INF Danny Worth.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored before exiting Friday's contest and should be considered day-to-day. He is batting .248 with eight homers and 22 RBI through 64 games this season.

Astros | Luis Valbuena homers

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 15:03:09 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena homered Sunday, June 19, in a 6-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena's homer was his eighth of the season. It appears he is warming up at the plate following an early-season slump. However, you may want to check for favorable matchups and stick to Valbuena in DFS and deeper format leagues.

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus and INF Luis Valbuena are not in the starting lineup versus Cincinnati Reds SP Cody Reed Saturday, June 18. INF Danny Worth will bat sixth and play third base, while OF Jake Marisnick bats ninth and plays left field.

Fantasy Tip: Both Worth and Marisnick are hitting under .200 this season and should be avoided in all fantasy formats this afternoon.

Astros | Luis Valbuena, Tyler White out

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 14:12:55 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena and 1B Tyler White are not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia Tuesday, June 14. SS Danny Worth will start at third base and is batting fifth, while SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Worth posted terrific numbers with Class AAA Frisco, but owners probably should avoid him for the time being. Gonzalez is hitting .400 with one RBI over the last seven days. He should have value in deeper leagues and AL-only leagues because of his power potential and position versatility and should be a starting candidate in daily fantasy leagues.

Astros | Luis Valbuena keeps streak alive

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 19:47:40 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday, June 11, against the Tampa Bay Rays to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena is hitting .370 (10-for-27) with three runs scored, a homer and two RBIs. He also has four walks during the span, so he finds ways to get on base frequently. He is a decent low-end corner infielder option in AL-only play and some really deep mixed formats for his power potential.

Astros | Jason Castro, Luis Valbuena sitting

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 13:49:23 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro and 3B Luis Valbuena are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Cole Hamels Tuesday, June 7. C Evan Gattis is catching and is hitting cleanup, while INF Marwin Gonzalez is at the hot corner and is batting sixth. OF Jake Marisnick also draws into the starting lineup and is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is a lineup regular and is off to a great start this month, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four home runs and nine RBI. Continue riding him in all fantasy formats, and he has become an elite catching option now that he has regained eligibility there. Gonzalez and Marisnick are both low-end daily picks this evening, with Gonzalez carrying a little more intrigue because of his power.

Astros | Houston sitting three lefties

Mon, 30 May 2016 11:16:14 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Luis Valbuena, 3B Colin Moran and OF Tony Kemp are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Edwin Escobar Monday, May 30. OF Colby Rasmus will start in left field, while OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting seventh. 1B Tyler White will start at first base and is batting fifth. SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at third base and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick has been more productive at the plate recently but is still hitting only .164 on the season, so owners should be able to find better options. White and Gonzalez are both hitting under .230 this season and are not strong fantasy option.

Sun, 29 May 2016 10:57:10 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Colin Moran is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano Sunday, May 29. 1B Luis Valbuena will start at third base, while 1B Tyler White will start at first base and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: White has only one hit in his last seven games and is hitting only .192 this month. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Astros | Tyler White out Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 16:13:10 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Tyler White is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. 3B Luis Valbuena shifts over to first base, which allows 3B Colin Moran to receive a start at third base against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker. Valbuena is hitting sixth and Moran is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: White continues to struggle after impressing in April. His average is down to .228 on the season, and he's likely to continue losing playing time. He's becoming less valuable by the day in deep mixed and AL leagues. Valbuena has homered in each of the last three games and should be thrown out there while he's hot. Moran is hitless in his first 12 major league at-bats. Take a wait-and-see approach with the youngster for now.

SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at third base and is batting seventh, while OF Jake Marisnick will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick and Gonzalez are hitting under .100 over the past seven days and should be avoided in most leagues. White is hitting .267 with two home runs and three RBI during that span and is a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.
