Braves | Freddie Freeman not improving

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:20:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) won't be ready to come off the disabled list when he's eligible Friday, July 3, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Freeman's wrist hasn't been improving.

Fantasy Tip: You'll have to stay patient with Freeman and keep him stashed in a DL spot. Joey Terdoslavich ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Chris Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will likely continue splitting time at first in the meantime, but neither should be fantasy options aside from in the deepest of leagues.

Braves | Freddie Freeman receives injection

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 16:13:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his wrist this week, and the Braves are hoping it will allow him to return sooner rather than later. Freeman is dealing with a right wrist contusion, but it seems unlikely that he'll be able to come off the disabled list when he's eligible July 3. The Braves need Freeman back, but they won't rush him back and jeopardize his long-term health. He was hitting .299 with 12 home runs and an .887 OPS when he was put on the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Stash Freeman everywhere in a DL spot until he returns. In the meantime, the Braves could use a combination of Chris Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) and Joey Terdoslavich at first base. Neither should garner much fantasy interest, but Johnson is the more experienced and more valuable commodity. Without Freeman in the lineup, Atlanta has become a pushover offensively. You should consider frequently streaming opposing pitchers against them on FantasyScore or in traditional leagues.

Braves | Atlanta offense struggling

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:50:00 -0700

The Atlanta Braves had just 13 runs and one home run in six games heading into the game Thursday, June 25, since 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) hurt his right wrist. They are averaging fewer than 2.2 runs in a 3-3 stretch over that time. Freeman landed on the disabled list this week.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves' patchwork offense these days looks pretty ugly, and opposing pitchers are good stream options in traditional leagues or at FantasyScore. Take advantage of the Freeman-less Braves in the short term.

Braves | Freddie Freeman update

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 10:45:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) has no broken bones in his wrist, and he can return from the disabled list July 3. He was hitting .324 (24-for-74) with seven home runs and 18 RBI in his last 19 games with a .662 slugging percentage, and he was .313 with 20 extra-base hits, 31 RBI and a .383 on-base percentage in his last 42 games. He initially injured the wrist swinging June 13 and received a cortisone injection last Wednesday. Freeman visited with the team's hand specialist Monday, June 22, and underwent an MRI exam.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) could be back as soon as early July, but there's no guarantee he'll pick up right where he left off. Wrist injuries can be tricky, and we're not exactly sure what's ailing him just yet. Be cautious in using him right away when he returns on FantasyScore.

Braves | Freddie Freeman headed to DL

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 09:42:40 -0700

Updating previous reports, Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, but the early indication is he doesn't have a serious injury.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves have been trying to trade 3B Chris Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) so they could use him there for the bulk of the time to showcase him. However, SS Pedro Ciriaco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 7-for-11 (.636) with five RBI the last seven days, and he could grab some time as well. Keep an eye on the daily lineups for FantasyScore usage.

Braves | Freddie Freeman likely DL-bound

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 20:37:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) appears likely to be headed for the 15-day disabled list. The team has not yet made an official decision, but it appears there is a strong possibility he'll need a stint on the DL.

Fantasy Tip: If Freeman is disabled, it would likely mean Chris Johnson ($2,700; or 5.4% of cap) could see a significant amount of starts at first base. Kelly Johnson ($3,400; or 6.8% of cap), Ryan Lavarnway ($1,600; or 3.2% of cap) could also get a chance there.

Braves | Freddie Freeman to have MRI

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 05:28:32 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) will have an MRI on his right wrist Monday, June 22. "(My wrist) is not worse, it's just not getting better," Freeman said. "I really don't have an answer until I can maybe get an X-ray or an MRI. I just want to know what is wrong."

Fantasy Tip: Consider him questionable for the beginning of their three-game set against Washington Tuesday. Kelly Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has seen time at 1B in Freeman's absence, and he's a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Braves | Freddie Freeman remains out of lineup

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 13:43:53 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) remains out of the lineup Saturday, June 20, against the New York Mets. OF Kelly Johnson will start at first base and hit third in the order against RHP Noah Syndergaard.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is just 2-for-15 in his last four games, but he has hit all of his six home runs this season against righties. Johnson's .255 batting average against right-handers this season represent his risk, but he does have power upside for FantasyScore owners.

Braves | Freddie Freeman is still sore

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 14:22:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) is still sore, and while he hopes to play Saturday, June 20, he did not rule out the possibility of missing the entire series against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should prepare to be without Freeman ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) for the weekend, as even if he does return, hitting with a wrist that is less than 100% stands to zap some upside, especially in the power department. Kelly Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) should continue to see starts at first base with Freeman out. Johnson is a low-end option in mixed seasonal leagues, but in the right matchup, he could be worth a flier in FantasyScore contests.

Braves | Freddie Freeman stil out

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 12:49:32 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Friday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners should replace Freeman ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) in their lineups until he returns and proves his health. In the meantime, Kelly Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) stands to receive the bulk of playing time at first base. Johnson has been serviceable with six home runs, 21 RBI and a .785 OPS over 115 plate appearances this season, and he is a low-priced flier in favorable matchups for FantasyScore players.
