Lions | Matthew Stafford scores twice in Week 15

Sat, 16 Dec 2017 17:27:09 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw 25-for-33 for 237 yards and two touchdowns in his team's 20-10 Week 15 win over the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions have to hope Stafford stays healthy, as they are riding his arm to a potential playoff berth. He only missed on eight attempts Saturday, so precision doesn't appear to be too much of an issue. Stafford remains a strong QB1 heading into next week.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 14, and is not on the injury report for Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford has thrown for at least 250 yards in seven of the last eight games but has four touchdowns and four interceptions over the last three games. He will be facing a solid Chicago Bears pass defense but could still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Lions | Matthew Stafford full go again

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 14:44:39 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford toughed it out last week after banging up his throwing hand the week prior, so he'll be good to go after another week of recovery and practice. The Chicago Bears have defended the pass well this year, but Stafford remains a viable QB1.

Lions | Matthew Stafford fully practices

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 15:00:09 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) was a full practice participant Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford shook off a banged up hand last week and came through for fantasy owners. He should be fine with another week of recovery behind him but faces a tough test in the Chicago Bears, who have been one of the best pass defenses in the league this year. Still, Stafford is in the QB1 conversation for Week 15.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 36 of his 44 pass attempts for 381 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford checked out early in Week 13 due to a hand injury, but he didn't seem to show any ill effects of the injury in this one. If you normally rely upon him in fantasy leagues it appears safe to keep using him going forward.

Lions | Matthew Stafford will be in uniform

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 08:53:47 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) is officially active for the team's Week 14 game.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford suffered the injury last week but likely will receive his normal workload against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will be a risky option because the injury is to his throwing hand but can be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback before of the matchup.

Lions | Matthew Stafford likely to start Week 14

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 06:02:39 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) is expected to start Week 14's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford appears to be on pace to start his 109th consecutive game and should be viewed as a low-end QB1 option in all fantasy formats due to the favorable matchup. He was a limited participant in two out of three practice sessions during the week and had been listed as questionable on the injury report but owners should have no reservations about starting him.

Lions | Matthew Stafford limited in practice

Fri, 08 Dec 2017 14:42:00 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) was listed as a limited participant in practice Friday, Dec. 8, and he is considered questionable for Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford has healed very quickly from the hand injury he suffered late in the Week 13 game in Baltimore. If he starts he is a very nice fantasy option against the league's 31st-ranked pass defense. Tampa has allowed 267.3 yards per game, most in the NFC, and 19 touchdowns with 10 or more pass plays of 40 yards allowed.

Lions | Matthew Stafford recovering quickly

Fri, 08 Dec 2017 09:20:27 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) appears to be on the right track in terms of his right hand injury healing enough for him to play in Week 14 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it would be a surprise if he didn't go. After struggling to stay healthy over the first two years of his career, Stafford hasn't missed a game in his last seven seasons. If he plays, he'll be in the low-end QB1 discussion.

Lions | Matthew Stafford limited

Thu, 07 Dec 2017 13:18:28 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford really doesn't want to miss this matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The scallywags are among the worst fantasy defenses in the league this year and the Lions are usually forced to pass early and often in order to stay in games. If Stafford is active then he should be started.

Lions | No practice for Matthew Stafford on Wednesday

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 10:12:25 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) was dressed for practice but did not participate Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jim Caldwell characterized Stafford as "not out of the woods yet" in regards to his bruised right hand earlier Wednesday, but the general feeling seems to be he'll find a way to play in a plus-matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14. He will be in the low-end fantasy QB1 discussion for the contest if he suits up.

Lions | Matthew Stafford not a sure thing

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 07:50:40 -0800

Updating previous reports, Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) is "not out of the woods yet," with his bruised right hand, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Caldwell added the injury isn't insignificant, but the nerves and feeling in Stafford's hand are progressing.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford has a solid matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, with his history of struggles through hand injuries, it's not out of the realm to consider a one-week play if you're in the first round of the playoffs.

Lions | Matthew Stafford bruised and sore

Mon, 04 Dec 2017 11:10:25 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) is "really sore and badly bruised" after suffering a throwing hand injury in Week 13. Stafford's hand is not broken, as reported previously, and head coach Jim Caldwell does not yet know if the injury will affect Stafford's throwing.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions desperately need Stafford if they want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. That may go for fantasy owners too. Obviously his status will need to be tracked throughout the week, but look for him to be limited in practice, if he does practice. Stafford can be started if he plays in a great matchup versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lions | No fracture for Matthew Stafford

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 14:04:25 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) underwent X-rays on his injured right hand, but they did not show any fracture, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford should be considered questionable for Week 14, so owners will need to monitor his practice participation during the week. He would have a favorable matchup if he is able to play, but owners may want to consider healthier options for their lineups.

Lions | Matthew Stafford injures hand

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 12:53:26 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) suffered a right hand injury in Week 13 and is considered questionable to return. He is undergoing X-rays on the hand.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for an update to see if Stafford suffered broken hand during the game. Jake Rudock would take over as the starter if Stafford misses and would not have much fantasy value. The injury would also hurt the value of the team's pass catchers.

Lions | Matthew Stafford facing tough test

Sat, 02 Dec 2017 19:20:29 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford goes on the road to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13, and the Ravens have allowed a league-low three touchdown passes in six home games this season.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford could still be used as a low-end QB1, but if you have a quality backup with a friendly matchup, don't be afraid to sit Stafford.

Fri, 01 Dec 2017 17:16:11 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Matthew Stafford (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford appears to be ready for a full workload despite the injury but will be facing a tough Baltimore Ravens defense. He could be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues or can be benched if owners have better options.

Lions | Matthew Stafford full go

Wed, 29 Nov 2017 13:22:20 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford will be good to go this weekend, but he faces one of the tougher pass defenses in the NFL in the Baltimore Ravens -- a squad that has yielded just 10 passing touchdowns all year. Don't completely shy away from him, but don't expect QB1 numbers either.

Lions | Matthew Stafford feeling better

Mon, 27 Nov 2017 17:07:41 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) said the ankle he injured in Week 12 is feeling better. He said he underwent X-rays on the ankle after the game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners can monitor Stafford's practice participation during the week, but he should be able to play unless he suffers a setback. He will be facing a tough Baltimore Ravens defense in Week 13 but could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Lions | Matthew Stafford expects to be fine

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 19:30:44 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) said his ankle wasn't 100 percent following a 30-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings Thursday, Nov. 23, but he expects to "be all right" going forward.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to keep an eye on Stafford's status heading into a Week 13 meeting with the Baltimore Ravens. You may want to consider another option if it sounds like he will be less than 100 percent for the matchup.

Lions | Matthew Stafford underwhelms in loss

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 13:35:42 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford gutted out a 250-yard, two-touchdown performance in a loss to the Detroit Lions Thursday, Nov. 23. Unfortunately, he also committed two turnovers (one fumble and one interception).

Fantasy Tip: Stafford was clicking with Marvin Jones in this contest, but that's about it. He was frequently under pressure and suffered an ankle injury late in the game, but came back in. Despite the disappointing outing, he remains a QB1 option for the rest of 2017.

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 12:45:45 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) remained in the game Thursday, Nov. 23, after suffering an ankle injury on a touchdown pass to WR Marvin Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford will toughen it out after what appeared to be a nasty injury on a low hit. He has played well so far and should be viewed as a borderline QB1 for the remainder of the season.

Lions | Matthew Stafford throwing deep ball better

Tue, 21 Nov 2017 06:49:10 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is the NFL's highest-rated deep passer at 128.6, according to Pro Football Focus. Stafford was 7-for-22 on throws of more than 20 yards during the first six games. Over the last four games, he's 11-for-21 with a touchdown in three of the four tilts. WR Marvin Jones has caught nine of 18 such passes thrown his way, and Stafford has a 133.5 passer rating when throwing deep to Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Since the bye week, Stafford has averaged 333 yards passing in four games. He has thrown seven touchdowns and one interception in that stretch. He has ascended to the upper level of QBs just below the cream of the crop.

Lions | Matthew Stafford posts 299 yards, two TDs

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 14:33:40 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Matthew Stafford completed 21 of his 31 pass attempts for 299 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 11 game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Greedy fantasy owners will complain about just missing a potential 300-yard bonus, but this was a very good game. And hey, with Thanksgiving on Thursday, Stafford will be right back in action, albeit a tough matchup against the Vikings. He threw for 209 yards and no touchdowns in the first meeting with Minnesota in Week 4, one of only two games without a touchdown this season for Stafford.

Lions | Matthew Stafford nearly perfect on MNF

Mon, 06 Nov 2017 21:00:12 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 26 of 33 passes for 361 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the team's Week 9 victory Monday, Nov. 6, against the Green Bay Packers. It was also the highest QB Rating (132.4) he's produced in a game this season.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford has been on fire as of late, as he's now totaled a whopping 1,096 yards over his last three games -- the most of any quarterback in the league over that span. Clearly, he's in a groove right now and it would be awfully tough for any fantasy owner to leave him on the bench in the weeks ahead. Also of note, Stafford has thrown an interception in only two of eight games this year.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 27 of 45 passes for 423 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 8 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: It was actually the third-highest yardage total by an NFL offense without scoring a touchdown. That's not the type of statistic fantasy owners want to see. The Lions will look to re-discover the end zone in Week 9 on Monday Night Football in Green Bay.

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 21:18:59 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) faces the New Orleans Saints in Week 6, and in his last two meetings with the Saints, he has completed 52 of his 67 passes for 595 yards and five touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford is expected to play through an ankle injury this weekend, and his recent history of success against New Orleans could continue. Only the New England Patriots have allowed more yards per pass attempt than the Saints this season.

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 16:47:32 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) is expected to play in the team's Week 6 game even though he is listed as questionable.

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 14:16:44 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 13, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford should be able to play this week as long as he does not suffer a setback in the next few days. He has not thrown for at least 300 yards yet this season but should have a favorable matchup this week. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford appears to be on track to play this week against the New Orleans Saints this week as long as he does not suffer a setback. He has thrown for at least 250 yards in only two games this season but can still be considered a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback this week.

Lions | Full practice for Matthew Stafford

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 13:29:06 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle) put in a full practice Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford apparently has somewhat of a limp, but the fact that he had a full practice is a sigh of relief. He's a terrific start this week versus one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL in the New Orleans Saints in what could be a barn burner.

Lions | Matthew Stafford practicing Wednesday

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 11:56:42 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle, hamstring) was able to practice Wednesday, Oct. 11, albeit with a wrap on his leg and a bit of a limp, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

Fantasy Tip: There has been no indication Stafford will not play in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints. The 29-year-old has been a borderline fantasy start since throwing for four touchdowns in Week 1 and will probably be that again, as it appears he is far from 100 percent.

Lions | Matthew Stafford has chance to play

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 12:52:18 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ankle, quadriceps) is dealing with ankle and quadriceps injuries, but the Lions are optimistic that he will play in Week 6, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Stafford's practice participation this week to see if he is in any danger of missing the game. He has not thrown for 300 yards in any game this season but does have nine touchdowns and only one interception in five games. He will be a risky option this week but can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback because of the matchup.

Lions | Matthew Stafford posts two TDs in loss

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 15:22:35 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 23 of his 35 pass attempts for 229 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers. He also lost one fumble and he was sacked six times.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford hooked up with Darren Fells for a couple of scoring strikes in the final frame, as it looked like was going to pull off another one of his vaunted fourth-quarter comebacks. However, he came up just short. He faces an ultra-favorable matchup in Week 6 against a leaky New Orleans pass defense.

Lions | Matthew Stafford passes for 219 yards

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 15:00:46 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 209 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford wasn't a friend to fantasy owners on this day, as he failed to find the end zone and was pressured all day long. In fact, Stafford was sacked six times, and the Lions offense was more successful on the ground. He'll look for better results in Week 5 against a Carolina Panthers pass defense which was very giving in Week 4.

Lions | Matthew Stafford average in Week 3

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 15:42:58 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw 25-for-45 for 265 yards and one touchdown in a 30-26 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: It could have been two touchdowns, but by now you probably know about the touchdown that wasn't. Stafford has a reputation for strong comeback and volume-passing efforts make the Lions signal-caller a decent QB1 option every game.

Lions | Matthew Stafford tosses two TDs in win

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 20:47:49 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 15 of his 21 pass attempts for 122 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 2 game against the New York Giants on Monday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford also added three runs for 23 yards. While he didn't have a great nightly statistically for fantasy owners, he didn't make any mistakes and was helped out by a solid run game. Down the road, the threat of the run will open up even more field for Stafford to excel. He'll look for better results in Week 3 when the Falcons visit Ford Field.

Lions | Matthew Stafford tosses four touchdowns

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 16:33:09 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed 29 of his 41 pass attempts for 292 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in Week 1 against Arizona.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford is at it again. After the Lions set an NFL record with eight fourth-quarter comebacks in 2016, the quarterback picked up right where he left off. The Lions were down 17-15 going into the final stanza, but ended up with a 35-23 victory. The Lions will hit the road for Monday Night Football in Week 2 on the road against the Giants.
