Bills | LeSean McCoy, Fred Jackson to split third downs?

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 15:05:45 -0700

Buffalo Bills RBs LeSean McCoy and Fred Jackson could split third-down snaps. Head coach Rex Ryan said Jackson wouldn't be in on all of the third-down plays and that RB Anthony Dixon would also get some playing time.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy is obviously still the Buffalo running back to own and will be the team's bellcow running back, as Ryan has said. Jackson should still provide some value, especially in point-per-reception leagues, but he won't be nearly as effective as he was last season.

Eagles | Chip Kelly favors one-cut runners

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 06:58:57 -0700

The Philadelphia Eagles traded RB LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills because head coach Chip Kelly desires a one-cut running back, according to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Lurie praised McCoy as a player, but the move was not financially driven. Kelly felt he could garner more production from a different running back or two. Lurie used the term "power spread" on multiple occasions to describe Kelly's offense. RBs DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews figure to share the work.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was one of the best players in fantasy last season, but there's almost no way he can repeat that kind of performance with two other legit backs wanting the ball. With Sproles an elite receiver from the RB position, Murray may find it difficult to repeat his 57 receptions from a year ago. Murray still rates as a mid-to-low RB1. Sproles is a capable RB3 in PPR leagues. Mathews' role is a little cloudy, but he is likely a low-end RB3 for now.

Bills | LeSean McCoy trade was quick

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 10:31:26 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles March 4, and Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the trade took 30 minutes to wrap up. "The trade for LeSean happened really quick," Ryan said at the NFL owners meetings. "We were all sitting there. We were having organizational meetings. ... And all of the sudden we get this call from Philadelphia and I think that was when the trade started. Probably 30 minutes later, the trade was done."

Fantasy Tip: Shady moves to a ground-and-pound approach in Buffalo under Ryan, but the move is likely a mixed bag for his 2015 fantasy value. To be safe, he's better viewed as a high-end RB2 with potential for more depending on how Buffalo uses McCoy and Fred Jackson together.

Bills | LeSean McCoy Buffalo's bellcow

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 07:31:51 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy was referred to as the team's "bellcow" by head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said that McCoy and RB Fred Jackson could see time on third downs.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the team will feature McCoy heavily, which helps shed doubt on Jackson's involvement. Jackson's value falls to the high-end RB4 territory, while Shady is best served as a midrange RB1.

Bills | Rex Ryan committed to the run

Sat, 21 Mar 2015 15:57:52 -0700

Buffalo Bills RBs LeSean McCoy and Fred Jackson are expected to receive a lot of carries in head coach Rex Ryan's offense. Ryan went as far as to say: "we're going to run it 50 times if we can on you."

Fantasy Tip: This really doesn't change much because it's not often that you can run the ball effectively 50 times against another NFL team. Shady McCoy is a mid-to-low RB1 right now, while Jackson's fantasy appeal is a little clouded. He could be a low-end RB2 or a high-end RB3.

Bills | Buffalo officially adds LeSean McCoy

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 14:12:55 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy has officially been traded to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for LB Kiko Alonso.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy should see a lot of work in the offense after the team gave him a new contract. He should be involved in the running and passing game next season. He likely will be an option in the first round of drafts and should be a weekly start.

Bills | LeSean McCoy contract update

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 10:02:38 -0700

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has agreed to a new five-year deal worth $40 million. McCoy will make $16 million in the first year of the contract and will receive $26.5 million in guaranteed money as part of the contract.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy should see a lot of playing time after receiving a big contract from the Bills. He probably will be selected in the first round of fantasy drafts next season and should be a weekly starting option.

Bills | LeSean McCoy to receive new deal

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 09:24:08 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has agreed to a new five-year deal with the Bills, according to a source. McCoy will receive more guaranteed money up front as part of the new deal.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy could receive a majority of the carries with the Bills this season, but he probably will have to share some carries with other running backs on the roster. McCoy likely will be a candidate to be selected in the first round of drafts next season.

Bills | LeSean McCoy nearing new deal

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 13:28:05 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is likely to have a new contract when the 2015 league year begins Tuesday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Shady's down year and his questionable new offense likely puts him into the mid-to-late portions of the first round in traditional drafts. Rex Ryan loves to run the ball, but McCoy will likely share the load with Fred Jackson.

Bills | LeSean McCoy ready to move on

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 20:08:32 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is "ready to move on" a day after he was informed the Philadelphia Eagles planned to trade him to the Bills, a source close to the running back said Wednesday, March 4.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy remains an RB1 for fantasy owners heading into 2015, but he is no longer in the conversation for top pick on draft day, especially as long as Fred Jackson remains healthy. The good news for Bills fans is that McCoy has come to grips with the deal and now sounds positive about his new team. He might come to enjoy the offense of Rex Ryan quite a bit more than that of Chip Kelly's, as Rex loves the ground and pound style.

Bills | Buffalo to restructure LeSean McCoy

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 17:02:08 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy will reportedly be given a revised contract with his new team. McCoy is currently without any guaranteed money in 2016, which would change. The Bills plan to "take very good care of him," according to a source familiar with the team's thinking.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how McCoy's unhappiness with his trade to Buffalo might affect things, but a restructuring of his contract is a good place to start for the Bills to appease him. His move to Buffalo is a mixed bag for his fantasy value, since Fred Jackson and Bryce Brown are also in the picture. Consider him a high-end RB that could come at a reasonable discount.

Bills | LeSean McCoy unhappy with trade

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 07:54:30 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is unhappy with the trade to the Bills, according to a source close to him. "He's a Pennsylvania kid. He's never played football outside of Pennsylvania," the source said. "So of course he's not happy. Sounds like it's pretty final to me unless LeSean is refusing to go to Buffalo." When the source was asked if McCoy was going to make the trade difficult, they said: "he's not going to make it easy, that's for sure."

Fantasy Tip: McCoy didn't appear to fit Chip Kelly's offense very well, and the offensive line was pretty rough at times. Rex Ryan is known to run the ball often. Shady might not be used as a receiver as much, but that could actually bode well for him through the course of 16 games. He's still a low-end RB1, but he might actually come at a slight discount because of his down year and the clouded outlook of Buffalo's offense.

Bills | LeSean McCoy will be costly for BUF

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 15:58:06 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy has two years left on his current contract that will cost $6.9 million and $7.6 million, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills needed another running back with C.J. Spiller becoming a free agent, and McCoy is a dynamic back, but he's not coming cheap. Still, as long as McCoy stays healthy, he should remain in RB1 territory with Buffalo.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy to be traded

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 15:39:53 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy will reportedly be traded for Buffalo Bills LB Kiko Alonso.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy will inevitably start with C.J. Spiller on his way out and Fred Jackson aging; although, Jackson will likely still cut into some of McCoy's time. Jackson was used frequently in the passing game in 2014, while McCoy regressed in that area in Philadelphia. As for the Eagles, Darren Sproles figures to see a nice boost in fantasy value, while Chris Polk becomes a sleeper candidate.

Thu, 29 Jan 2015 23:22:29 -0800

Eagles | Tough financial decisions ahead

Thu, 29 Jan 2015 11:28:23 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin had a career year in 2014, but the team may have trouble re-signing him due to salary cap issues. The Eagles may not be able to retain both Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy. McCoy is under contract for another three years, but his salary cap number increases to $11.9 million in 2015, unless he restructures his current deal. If the Eagles cannot re-sign Maclin, they would have to commit more than $12 million for using the franchise tag on him.

Eagles | Chris Polk the goal-line back?

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 10:18:47 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB Chris Polk appears to have become the team's goal-line back of late, and two of the three snaps he played in Week 15 led to short rushing touchdowns. On another snap inside the five-yard line, RB Darren Sproles took the ball for a TD. The Eagles have struggled in the red zone this year, and they think Polk's size and power gives him an advantage at the goal line. "Some of the short-yardage stuff, Polk's obviously a little bit more powerful back, so they've been giving him some of the runs in short-yardage in a couple games, especially last game," RB LeSean McCoy said. McCoy has 10 carries inside the five-yard line this year and has three touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Polk ($3,300) is a very deep flex play, at best, at FantasyScore, and the matchup against the Washington Redskins isn't a good one for either Polk or LeSean McCoy ($7,100) in Week 16.

Eagles | Shady opens practice on sidelines

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 21:56:05 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy opened practice on the sidelines Wednesday, Dec. 17, while RB Chris Polk opened with first-team reps. After practice McCoy did not seem too concerned. "We rotate all the time," McCoy said. "(Running backs coach Duce Staley) pulled me out. (RB Darren Sproles) wasn't in either." Shady played a season-low 34 of 55 offensive snaps in Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys, his fewest in two seasons under head coach Chip Kelly.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if this means anything, but FantasyScore owners should avoid McCoy at $7,100 (or 14.2% of the cap) until there is more clarity in the Philadelphia backfield.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy takes franchise lead

Sun, 07 Dec 2014 15:49:14 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy passed former RB Wilbert Montgomery as the franchise all-time leading rusher in Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: For FantasyScore owners this week, McCoy has struggled against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14, rushing for 3.2 yards per carry through the middle of the third quarter.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy does not practice

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 12:08:37 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (personal) did not practice Friday, Dec. 5. McCoy was excused for personal reasons.

Fantasy Tip: This should be no concern for McCoy this weekend, but check his status on game day just to be sure. McCoy will cost $7,500 in FantasyScore this week and should be considered for your roster.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy runs wild

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 17:37:48 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy ran for a season-high 159 yards and a score on 25 carries in a 33-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy has now rushed for 289 yards over the past two weeks, and after a slow start, he is finally looking like the elite fantasy back he was expected to be.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy righting the ship

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 15:04:42 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy is averaging 95 yards per game and 4.5 yards per carry over the past seven weeks.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy started slowly, but he is starting to show why owners in weekly fantasy leagues nabbed him in the first round. FantasyScore owners have been enjoying discount prices on McCoy, but the more productive he is, the more his price tag will rise in coming weeks.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy finally shows up

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 14:00:31 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy carried 21 times for 130 yards and a rushing touchdown in Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans, and he added one reception for just one yard.

Fantasy Tip: Shady was hounded by reporters questioning if he has lost a step, and he responded with his third 100-yard in the past six outings. He has also found the end zone twice in the past three games after managing just one touchdown through the first eight games. McCoy is still a dangerous option in FantasyScore when the matchup is favorable such as Sunday against Tennessee's leaky rush defense.

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 11:45:01 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries in the first half of the team's Week 12 game.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy is not have a season like he did in 2013, but has played well at times this season. McCoy should start most weeks for owners even though he has been a bit inconsistent.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy says he is same player

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 10:38:37 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said he is the same player he was last season even though he is only averaging 3.7 yards per carry this season, which is the lowest in his career.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy led the NFL in rushing in 2013 with 1,607 yards but has rushed for only 729 yards so far this season. McCoy will be facing a Tennessee Titans defense that has struggled against running backs this season. McCoy costs $6,900 on FantasyScore and should be a solid starting option against the Titans.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy's futility worst of career

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 06:25:21 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy averaged fewer than 2 yards per carry for the third time this season with 12 carries for 19 yards against the Carolina Panthers in Week 10. McCoy had two games of fewer than 2 yards per carry in his career before this season.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy ($7,200; 14.4% of your cap) figures to have a good chance for a big game against the futile Green Bay Packers run defense this week. However, the Panthers ranked 26th in the league. He's a boom or bust RB1 on FantasyScore this week.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy practicing

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 08:16:52 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (illness) is participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy appears to be improving after missing practice Wednesday, Nov. 5, because of the illness. He probably will be able to play in Week 10 and should be a solid starting option if owners on FantasyScore are willing to spend $7,200 on him.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy out with illness

Wed, 05 Nov 2014 11:13:29 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (illness) missed practice with an illness Wednesday, Nov. 5, but he should be back Thursday, Nov. 6, and ready to go for the team's Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers Monday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy ($7,200) will be fine for Monday night against the Panthers, a defense that has surprisingly been pretty awful all season long. McCoy isn't a bad option for FantasyScore lineups, and the team could lean more on the ground game with Mark Sanchez in at quarterback.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy hits century mark

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 20:37:13 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy carried 22 times for a season-high 149 yards in Week 6 against the New York Giants, although he was held out of the end zone again. He also chipped in with two receptions for five yards.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners finally saw Shady get untracked, but now the team faces a bye in Week 7. McCoy might have the carries all to himself once the team returns, as Darren Sproles left with a knee injury in Sunday's game.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy needs to break free

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 07:52:14 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said he needs to break more tackles and felt like he was taken down by a lot of desperation tackles in Week 5. "There's still stuff that we need to do to get better with it, and I think it starts with me," McCoy said. "I need to break more tackles. I feel like last game was too many save tackles, like a guy just gets my leg, stuff like that."

Fantasy Tip: McCoy ($6,700; 13.4% of your cap) is still pretty expensive on FantasyScore with his continued struggles. We'd like to see him have a season high of more than 81 yards before investing that much in him. However, he's dynamic enough to do it at any time.

Eagles | Coach removed LeSean McCoy from game

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 09:47:03 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said running backs coach Duce Staley removed him late in the team's Week 5 win when the team was trying to run out the clock. McCoy was removed in favor of RB Darren Sproles. "They called me out. Duce pulled me out," McCoy said. "For the most part, if I'm tired, I come out. Then Sproles has his different packages, he has his plays to come in, but the majority of the time, it's just how I'm feeling." Sproles popped a 25-yard run the first play after replacing McCoy, who had 81 yards on 24 carries in the game.

Head coach Chip Kelly noted that sometimes defenses play the run differently when McCoy is in the game compared to Sproles. Sproles seems to receive better blocking at times, and he can be savvier at reading what's in front of him in cramped situations.

Fantasy Tip: It was nice to see McCoy have his best game of the season, but we're still waiting for that breakout game. It could come in Week 6 against the New York Giants. McCoy will cost you $6,700 (13.4% of cap) at FantasyScore.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy checks out

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 06:52:21 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy took himself out of the game in the fourth quarter Sunday, Oct. 5, according to head coach Chip Kelly. The team was trying to ice the game with a six-point lead.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy continues to struggle, but he had a season-high 81 rushing yards in Week 5 on 24 carries (3.4 yards per rush). He'll have a potentially good matchup against the New York Giants in Week 6.

Eagles | No LeSean McCoy at goal line

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:48:33 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy didn't carry the ball on third or fourth down from the San Francisco 49ers' 1-yard line in fourth quarter of the team's Week 4 loss, and head coach Chip Kelly said he didn't trust the offensive line in the situation. "We weren't really getting a ton of push at the point of attack," Kelly said. "I didn't think we were going to be able to pound it in in that situation."

Fantasy Tip: Although it's too early to give up on McCoy, it's not a good sign that the struggling offensive line is costing him goal-line touches. The Eagles have a Week 5 game against a St. Louis defense ranked 30th against the run, and if McCoy can't find some running room in that game, it could be time to hit the panic button.

Eagles | No treatment for LeSean McCoy

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:07:07 -0700

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (toe) is not injured, head coach Chip Kelly said Monday, Sept. 29. "He's not on the treatment list," Kelly said. "He does normal maintenance like everybody else, but he hasn't had any injuries where we've done anything with him." McCoy struggled again in Week 4, and there were rumors his struggles this season have been linked to a turf toe injury suffered during the preseason.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy not injured

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 14:27:03 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy is not dealing with any injuries at this time, according to head coach Chip Kelly. McCoy rushed for only 17 yards on 10 carries in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy has struggled to find running room this season but could be helped with the addition of Lane Johnson to the offensive line. McCoy could perform better if he is given the ball in space and allow him to make plays. Owners should continue to start McCoy each week but will need to lower their expectations until he posts better numbers.

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy had 10 carries for 17 yards Sunday, Sept. 28, and has 29 carries for 39 yards in the last two weeks. "We got whooped up front," head coach Chip Kelly said. "We're not very good up front right now. We've got a lot of guys banged up. That's not an excuse, it's just the reality."

Fantasy Tip: McCoy has a good matchup in Week 5 against the St. Louis Rams and remains a must-start in all formats.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy not concerned

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 11:35:03 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy is not concerned with his rushing numbers from Week 3, and said he does not feel like he is struggling after posting 22 yards on 19 carries. "I don't think I'm struggling at all," McCoy said. "I don't know what you mean by that. I don't think I'm struggling, at all. So I don't know what you mean by that."

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Chip Kelly credited the Washington Redskins front seven for doing a good job against the run after the game, and pointed out that it opened some things in the passing game. While the slow start is not ideal, it is something to monitor moving forward.

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 06:55:23 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy was held in check by the Washington Redskins' big nickel package and base defensive front Sunday, Sept. 21. He was rarely able to bounce outside and averaged 1.1 yards per carry in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: It was an off day for Shady, who left the game briefly with a head injury. He's still a must-start on a weekly basis.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy returns

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 11:13:41 -0700

Updating previous reports, Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (head) has been able to return after missing time with a head injury.

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (head) is being examined for a head injury after leaving the team's Week 3 game. It is not known if McCoy will be able to return.

Eagles | LeSean McCoy finds end zone

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy had 20 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown in the Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts Monday, Sept. 15, and he added four receptions for 23 yards.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy had a decent stat line for fantasy owners, but it was Darren Sproles who stole the show and is eating into the fantasy appeal of Shady a little bit. Still, McCoy is an unquestionable RB1 in all formats, as he is still getting ample touches.

Eagles | Darren Sproles produces

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 06:02:48 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles had 11 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown and four receptions for 14 yards in Week 1. He played 33 snaps (38 percent) while RB LeSean McCoy played 67 percent of the snaps. The two took four snaps together.

Fantasy Tip: Sproles broke a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that inflated his box score numbers. He won't always be that productive in limited work, but he might be a great flex option against the Colts in Week 2.
