Wed, 20 Nov 2013 09:43:18 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Christian Ponder will be the starting quarterback Week 12. Frazier said QB Matt Cassel likely will be the No. 2 quarterback, but QB Josh Freeman could also be active for the game.
Fantasy Tip: The Green Bay Packers present a better opportunity for Ponder to succeed, and he's familiar with them, but it's still best to stay away from him unless you're desperate in leagues where you start two QBs.
Sun, 17 Nov 2013 20:00:34 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier was non-committal when asked Sunday, Nov. 17, who his Week 12 quarterback would be against the Green Bay Packers. QB Christian Ponder was terrible in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks, so QB Matt Cassel or QB Josh Freeman could get another chance.
Fantasy Tip: This is a situation to avoid in all scenarios.

The Minnesota Vikings have declared WR Greg Jennings, OG Jeff Baca, QB Josh Freeman, TE Kyle Rudolph, DL Letroy Guion, RB Matt Asiata, CB Shaun Prater inactive for Week 11.
Sat, 16 Nov 2013 17:51:09 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier would not say if QB Matt Cassel or QB Josh Freeman will be the No. 2 quarterback for the team's Week 11 game but indicated all three quarterbacks on the roster could be active for the game.
Thu, 14 Nov 2013 11:18:44 -0800
Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder (shoulder) took most of the first-team snaps in practice Wednesday, Nov. 13, and expects to play in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Leslie Frazier is still unsure if Ponder will start, and he said QB Josh Freeman is a candidate to start if Ponder can't go. "Ponder looked good," said WR Greg Jennings. "He practiced and (was) getting the game plan in and making some throws."
Fantasy Tip: Ponder shouldn't be in any starting lineups this weekend against a ferocious Seahawks defense.
Sat, 09 Nov 2013 07:58:29 -0800
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman said he wants to start again, and said he is making progress since his first game. "I'm making a lot of progress from my first game," Freeman said in the locker room. "I can't speak for the coaches. I can't speak for (head coach) Leslie (Frazier). I'm just working as hard as I can. When they need me to go in I plan to go in and play well, whenever that may be."
Thu, 07 Nov 2013 16:52:37 -0800
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman could get another chance to start this season if QB Christian Ponder struggles as the starter.

Thu, 31 Oct 2013 09:26:40 -0700
Minnesota Vikings C John Sullivan is supporting QB Christian Ponder as the team's starter, and he thinks he should receive a second straight start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9. "(Ponder) prepared really hard and he went out there and laid it all on the line," Sullivan said. "You know, you see that last run that he made when things were getting out of reach (a 19-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter against the Packers on Sunday) and he's still out there fighting until the end. I mean, that's not my decision. But I'd love to see him stay back there, of course."
Fantasy Tip: Leslie Frazier is keeping everyone in the dark about who the starting quarterback will be against Dallas this weekend. It's between Ponder and Josh Freeman. Neither guy should be in your starting lineup, however, if they get the nod.
Wed, 30 Oct 2013 18:55:29 -0700
Updating a previous report, the Minnesota Vikings have not announced a starting quarterback for Week 9, but ESPN's Ed Werder expects that the team will turn to QB Josh Freeman (concussion) again after QB Christian Ponder was unimpressive in place of Freeman in Week 8.
Wed, 30 Oct 2013 10:43:00 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier has not made a decision on who will start at quarterback between QBs Christian Ponder and Josh Freeman in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Frazier to make a decision until the end of the week, and it'll likely depend on whether the team trusts Freeman after coming off his concussion. Either way, neither QB is trustworthy as a fantasy starter.
Mon, 28 Oct 2013 12:53:31 -0700
The Minnesota Vikings are unsure who their starting quarterback will be in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys, but it will not be QB Matt Cassel, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. QB Christian Ponder went 14-for-21 for just 145 yards in the team's Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers a week after QB Josh Freeman (concussion) had an embarrassing debut. "I don't want to discount Matt," Frazier said. "But Christian did some good things in that ballgame yesterday. There are some things he can obviously do better, but it has something to do with it. He has led us to some wins in the past." Freeman was able to run over the weekend without concussions symptoms for the first time since being hurt in Week 7.
Fantasy Tip: The decision will probably come down to how healthy Freeman is and if he's cleared from his concussion. Either way, Ponder and Freeman are only desperation options for those in leagues that start two QBs.

The Minnesota Vikings have declared DL Chase Baker, OG Jeff Baca, QB Josh Freeman, RB Matt Asiata, TE Rhett Ellison, WR Rodney Smith, CB Shaun Prater inactive for Week 8.

Fri, 25 Oct 2013 13:28:31 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman (concussion) was cleared to return to practice Friday, Oct. 25, and head coach Leslie Frazier said Freeman will return to full practice next week. It's likely that Freeman will receive another chance to start after his unsuccessful debut in Week 7. "Looking back, maybe I was a little too fired up at first," he said. "There's definitely a lot of correctable things, things that going into the game I would've banked on me being able to complete or get done on the field, but at the same time we weren't able to do so, so I'm moving forward and just got to find a way to be better prepared." Frazier said he saw some mechanical issues that Freeman can correct.
Fantasy Tip: Whether Freeman starts in Week 9 will likely be determined by how well Christian Ponder plays this weekend against the Green Bay Packers. Stay tuned.
Thu, 24 Oct 2013 15:36:34 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman (concussion) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.
Thu, 24 Oct 2013 15:30:49 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman (concussion) has cleared part of the league's protocol for concussions, but he will be inactive in Week 8, with QB Christian Ponder getting the starting nod against the Green Bay Packers. Ponder tossed three touchdowns against the Packers last season.
Wed, 23 Oct 2013 14:23:42 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Fantasy Tip: Freeman is not expected to play this weekend, with Christian Ponder taking over. It's conceivable that Ponder could win back the starting job with a nice performance against the Green Bay Packers.
Wed, 23 Oct 2013 10:23:02 -0700
Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder is likely to start in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers with QB Josh Freeman (concussion) going through concussion protocol this week. Freeman "wasn't feeling so well" after arriving at the team's complex Wednesday, Oct. 23. Ponder will take the first-team repetitions at practice Wednesday and beyond.
Fantasy Tip: Ponder gives the Vikes a better chance for success because he's much more familiar with the offense than Freeman is. Freeman's lack of timing and rust showed in his terrible performance in Week 7. Ponder is only a desperation play for those in two-QB leagues.
Wed, 23 Oct 2013 09:40:49 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Josh Freeman (concussion) has a concussion, and the team is preparing as if Freeman will not play Week 8. QB Christian Ponder will start if Freeman is unable to play.
Fantasy Tip: Owners in any league should not consider using Freeman or Ponder as their starting quarterback this week.
Tue, 22 Oct 2013 12:18:19 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Josh Freeman will start in the team's Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers
Fantasy Tip: Coming off a bad outing in Week 7, Freeman has no fantasy value at this point.
Mon, 21 Oct 2013 21:06:43 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman made his first start for the team in Week 7 against the New York Giants Monday, Oct. 21. He completed 20 of his 53 pass attempts for 190 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
Fantasy Tip: Freeman did not appear to be on the same page as his receivers, and to be fair, he has been with the team for just about two weeks. If you're a fantasy owner looking for help at the QB position, even just as a bye-week replacement, Freeman is only worth a look as a QB2 in the deepest of leagues which require two starting signal callers. He needs to show consistency before standard owners pay him any mind.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 10:11:13 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said he expects that QB Josh Freeman will be the starting quarterback Week 7.
Fantasy Tip: Freeman is working on learning the offense and appears to be on track to start this week. Freeman could be an option for desperate owners in all leagues looking for a quarterback. Freeman could be a No. 2 quarterback for owners in deeper leagues for the rest of the season.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 09:51:03 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder likely will start Week 7 if the team does not believe QB Josh Freeman is ready to play in a game.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 09:23:08 -0700
Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman will make his team debut and start against the New York Giants in Week 7, with QB Christian Ponder serving as the backup. "Our anticipation is he will play well," head coach Leslie Frazier said.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 09:05:41 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman received the first-team repetitions during individual drills during practice Wednesday, Oct. 16. He was followed by QBs Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel.
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 05:24:55 -0700
The Minnesota Vikings could start QB Josh Freeman this week if they are satisfied with his knowledge of the playbook.
Fantasy Tip: We have a feeling that he has a good chance to play this week. They play on Monday night against the New York Giants, and he would be a solid QB2 play if he can run a full offense. Adrian Peterson's fantasy outlook would improve drastically with Freeman under center. Jerome Simpson could have better consistency if he and Freeman are on the same page. However, Freeman has never really used tight ends too much, which could hurt Kyle Rudolph's value.
Mon, 14 Oct 2013 13:50:29 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier did not indicate who would be his starting quarterback in Week 7 against the New York Giants after QB Matt Cassel and company took another defeat in Week 6. "Yeah, I want to go back and evaluate what Matt did in this ballgame and then make a determination as we go this week," Frazier said when asked if he was undecided about his starting quarterback. Cassel went 32-for-44 with 241 yards and a touchdown and two interceptions. QB Josh Freeman was inactive, and the team is unsure if he'll have a good enough grip of the offense to start this weekend.
Fantasy Tip: Cassel didn't look very good yesterday, and the team is likely just using him as a placeholder until Freeman is ready to go. It's doubtful that Christian Ponder is an option.
Sun, 13 Oct 2013 08:44:51 -0700
The Minnesota Vikings have declared LB Audie Cole, DL Chase Baker, LB Gerald Hodges, OG Jeff Baca, QB Josh Freeman, DL Justin Trattou, FS Mistral Raymond inactive for Week 6.
Thu, 10 Oct 2013 16:02:20 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder is unhappy with the way things have turned out. QB Matt Cassel had the majority of first-team repetitions in practice Thursday, Oct. 10, and he's expected to start over Ponder in Week 6. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. We'll see how things play out," Ponder said of all the recent developments at quarterback, via Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Some of the dynamics of this organization have changed, obviously ... But I'm preparing like I'm going to be on the field."
Fantasy Tip: Josh Freeman is expected to eventually take over as the starting quarterback once he's up to speed. Ponder basically has no future left in Minnesota at this point.
Wed, 09 Oct 2013 10:00:05 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Josh Freeman probably will not practice this week because he is trying to learn the offensive scheme.

Mon, 07 Oct 2013 12:31:16 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Josh Freeman will have a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job, but QB Christian Ponder (rib) remains the starting quarterback for the time being if he's healthy.
Fantasy Tip: Ponder is still banged up and probably won't hold off Freeman for long. Freeman has the most upside of Ponder and Matt Cassel, too, so expect to see him under center at some point this season once he learns the offense.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 11:10:17 -0700
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Josh Freeman will not be the team's starting quarterback Week 6.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 10:19:28 -0700
The Minnesota Vikings are still listing QB Christian Ponder (rib) as the starting quarterback on their depth chart, even after signing QB Josh Freeman. QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson is likely to be released.
Fantasy Tip: Ponder is on very shaky ground, and he may not even be ready to return in Week 6 following his rib injury. Matt Cassel could receive another start against the Carolina Panthers, but it looks like Freeman may be the long-term solution. This is surely a QB situation to steer clear of.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 06:27:37 -0700
Updating an earlier report, Minnesota Vikings QB Josh Freeman's contract doesn't including a clause preventing the team from placing the franchise tag on him after the season. The franchise tag would be worth more than $15 million next season.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 06:13:36 -0700
Updating a previous report, the Minnesota Vikings agreed with free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) on a one-year, $3 million deal.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 20:12:44 -0700
The Minnesota Vikings and free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) agreed to terms on a contract Sunday, Oct. 6, a source confirmed. The deal is believed to be for one season.
Fantasy Tip: If Freeman can find his way into the starting lineup sooner rather than later, he could re-emerge as a solid fantasy option, at least as a bye-week or injury replacement. The signing is bad news for the fantasy prospects of Christian Ponder (rib), who is out with an injury, and Matt Cassel, who has been starting in Ponder's stead.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 09:33:03 -0700
Updating previous reports, free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) is looking to compete for a starting job and would like to decide where he will sign Sunday, Oct. 6. He has received interest from the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 07:48:16 -0700
The Minnesota Vikings are intrigued with free agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers), but have a lot of questions about the quarterback.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 07:36:07 -0700
Free agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) has narrowed his focus down to three teams in trying to decide where to sign. Freeman may make his decision as soon as Monday, Oct. 7, with Week 5 games playing a role in his decision making process.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 07:28:28 -0700
If the Oakland Raiders sign free agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers), he would assume the starting role over QB Terrelle Pryor.

Fri, 04 Oct 2013 16:44:08 -0700
The Buffalo Bills have not ruled out the possibility of pursuing free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) because they are keeping all of their options open.
Fri, 04 Oct 2013 11:44:59 -0700
The Cleveland Browns are unlikely to show interest in signing free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Buccaneers) after they learned QB Brian Hoyer (knee) would be lost for the season. The Browns are probably willing to stick with QB Brandon Weeden for the rest of the year, but they'll definitely be in the market for a franchise QB next season.
Fantasy Tip: Weeden could be a decent bye week filler at QB if the matchup is right. But he'll have to display much better pocket presence and get the ball out of his hands quicker in order to become more consistent and put up points.
