Browns | Brian Hoyer fully cleared

Fri, 18 Jul 2014 10:46:28 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer (knee) said he's been fully cleared to participate in training camp, confirming Hoyer's belief that he wouldn't be limited.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer played well before tearing his ACL last year, but it's unclear whether Hoyer or QB Johnny Manziel will start the season opener. Manziel has more potential while Hoyer has the experience. Neither one of them is a reliable fantasy quarterback at this point, but we'd draft Manziel before Hoyer.

Browns | Brian Hoyer extension won't be easy

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 11:46:38 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer's extension would be "a very difficult deal to do," according to Hoyer's agent, Joe Linta. Linta added that they are open to talking with the team but are also content with waiting. It had previously been reported that the Browns are interested in extending Hoyer's contract, which is in its final year.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer's value is difficult to pinpoint with a legitimate quarterback competition going on in Cleveland with rookie Johnny Manziel. Hoyer played well when he started last season. That being said, he should still be drafted as backup if he does start.

Browns | Paul Kruger stands behind Brian Hoyer

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 16:11:50 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer deserves to be the team's starting quarterback heading into Week 1 this season, according to LB Paul Kruger. "In my mind, Hoyer's the guy," Kruger said. "Hoyer came in, won us four games, unfortunately got hurt. The guy was on fire when he was healthy and he's proven himself at a different level and has worked extremely hard."

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has QB2 potential based on matchups if he can hold off Johnny Manziel in training camp and preseason. However, he's a risk as your backup because of the QB competition.

Browns | Johnny Manziel needs to hit the books

Fri, 13 Jun 2014 11:44:12 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel must study the team's playbook before training camp next month if he's going to have a realistic chance to unseat QB Brian Hoyer as the starting quarterback, according to head coach Mike Pettine. "I think he shouldn't concern himself so much where Brian is, but where he is," the coach said. "He's going to have plenty of tape to study -- his own work, the team work, opponent's tape, a whole volume of Redskins tape. The more he familiarizes himself with that, the better off he'll be."

Fantasy Tip: This much we know: Manziel is behind Hoyer in the QB competition. It'll likely stay that way unless Manziel makes significant strides in training camp and the preseason. The team won't rush Manziel into a starting role.
