Texans | Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett splitting reps

Thu, 28 May 2015 11:14:59 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer split first-team repetitions in offseason workouts Wednesday, May 27, with QB Ryan Mallett. "The tempo (stood out)," said Hoyer. "You can tell we put a lot of work in and guys were just prepared. There weren't a lot of mental mistakes. Guys came ready to go and it was exciting -- got after it a little bit."

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer is currently listed as the de-facto starter on the Texans' depth chart, likely because Mallett is coming off a pectoral injury from last year. It's anyone's guess right now as to who will win the starting job in training camp. Hoyer has the experience edge, but Mallett has more upside. Neither quarterback will be anything more than a mediocre QB2 in fantasy, though.

Texans | Houston QBs to share reps

Tue, 12 May 2015 12:17:37 -0700

Houston Texans QBs Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett will split first-team repetitions once organized team activities (OTAs) begin later this month.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer may take longer to get used to a new offense, but he has more experience than Mallett. Whoever starts will be a backup fantasy quarterback and/or bye-week replacement at best.

Texans | Brian Hoyer headed to Houston

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 09:38:01 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer will sign with the Houston Texans, according to a source. The deal is expected to be done within 24 hours.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has marginal upside if he wins the starting job. Arian Foster is one of the most complete backs in the league, and DeAndre Hopkins is emerging. Hoyer will be a matchup play or a midrate QB2 at best.

Jets | Brian Hoyer to meet with Jets again

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 19:35:35 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Brian Hoyer's (Browns) representatives talked to the New York Jets twice Monday, March 9, and are scheduled to talk again Monday night.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer might have a better chance to unseat Geno Smith in New York, and having a target like Brandon Marshall wouldn't hurt, either. However, even if he wins a starting job in Houston or New York, he is still considered nothing more than a Top 25 option at his position.

Jets | Brian Hoyer weighing offer from NY

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 10:06:03 -0700

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer, who is expected to sign with the Houston Texans, is weighing an offer from the New York Jets Monday, March 9, according to sources. If he chooses to sign with the Jets, he'll likely compete for the starting job with QB Geno Smith. Hoyer had 3,326 yards with 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2014 for the Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Wherever Hoyer lands in free agency, he'll have more intriguing offensive weapons around him, especially in New York, where Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall figure to be the top two wideouts. However, he'll be competing for a starting gig yet again, which will keep him as a low-end QB2 for fantasy drafts.

Texans | Brian Hoyer likely to Houston

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 06:29:36 -0700

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer is going to sign with the Houston Texans, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer seems to fit the system pretty well, and he'll have something he hasn't had much experience with - an elite running back. Hoyer is a midrange QB2 with some upside if they can add a receiver to replace the likely departing Andre Johnson.

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 09:37:19 -0700

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer has received interest from the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer likely would be Colin Kaepernick's backup if he decides to sign with the 49ers this offseason. Hoyer would not be worth a draft pick if he joins San Francisco since he would not start.

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 10:14:04 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent QB Brian Hoyer will be targeted by the Houston Texans during free agency, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: No matter who he plays for, the bottom line is that Hoyer just isn't a reliable starting fantasy quarterback. He should be considered no more than a QB2.
