Sat, 30 Apr 2016 16:23:35 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer figures to be a backup to Jay Cutler, and he has virtually no fantasy value unless something happens to Cutler.

Broncos | No Brian Hoyer for Denver

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 16:11:11 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is not a part of the Denver Broncos' immediate plans. The Broncos informed Hoyer Friday, April 29, that they will not be signing him. Denver will stick with three quarterbacks for now because general manager John Elway wants QBs Mark Sanchez, Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian to receive as many repetitions as possible.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez does have the edge right now and is the safer starting option for the Broncos in 2016. It's important for Lynch to become acclimated to Denver's offense and the feel of the NFL this year. Lynch is likely the future of Denver's quarterback position, but his growth process will take some time. Sanchez is not a QB1 and should only be started as a bye-week replacement in good matchups.

NFL | Brian Hoyer will wait

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 16:15:16 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) will wait to see what happens with the NFL Draft this week before deciding where to sign, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: There are a handful of teams at best for which Hoyer could start, but from a fantasy perspective he should definitely be drafted as a backup.

Jets | NYJ doing due diligence with Brian Hoyer

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 10:15:06 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is receiving some interest from the New York Jets, but Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said the team is doing due diligence on Hoyer. Maccagnan also said talks to retain free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick may take some time.

Fantasy Tip: The writing is on the wall right there that the Jets are still looking to retain Fitzpatrick, and it's a matter of negotiating. Hoyer could be a low-end QB2 if he lands a starting gig. Fitzpatrick is a solid QB2 if he returns to the Jets.

NFL | Brian Hoyer taking his time

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:07:41 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) finished his meeting with the Denver Broncos and took a physical Thursday, April 21, but there is no rush for him to sign with a team.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has another visit with an undisclosed team lined up, but the Broncos and New York Jets make the most sense to sign him. He'd likely compete for a starting job with either of those two teams, but Hoyer has been so inconsistent in his career that he'd be nothing more than a low-end fantasy backup.

NFL | Six teams in on Brian Hoyer

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 09:07:21 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) has interest from six teams, including the Denver Broncos, who he is still meeting with Thursday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: If Hoyer can land in a spot with a chance to start, he'll be a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

NFL | A few teams eyeing Brian Hoyer

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:19:12 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) has drawn interest from five to six teams, according to a source. The Denver Broncos and New York Jets may have an advantage, though. They could give Hoyer the best chance to start, and Hoyer has already visited both teams. The Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers are two teams that could also be interested.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer produces more like a backup, and even if he starts somewhere he shouldn't be drafted as a starter in fantasy.

Broncos | Brian Hoyer visiting Broncos

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 10:25:27 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) will visit the Denver Broncos Wednesday, April 20, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer has that playoff meltdown in most recent memories, but he had a winning record the last two years on bad teams. If he lands a starting gig, he'll be a low-end QB2 in fantasy that could be used in the right bye-week matchup.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick still Jets' top priority

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:58:45 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) remains the New York Jets' No. 1 priority despite free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) visiting Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to imagine Fitzpatrick not eventually re-signing with the Jets, especially considering the extra money New York received when D'Brickashaw Ferguson retired. Fitzpatrick is coming off a career year and will be a borderline QB1 if he re-signs with the Jets.

Jets | Brian Hoyer visiting Jets

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 06:23:28 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) will visit the New York Jets Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are at a stalemate with Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Hoyer could slide in and steal the gig. Wherever he lands, he's little more than a fantasy backup.

Steelers | Brian Hoyer of interest to Pittsburgh

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 05:38:56 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) has the interest of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer would obviously be a backup in Pittsburgh, but there could be a better spot available for him to compete to start. He would be a fantasy backup if he lands in one of those spots.

Jets | NYJ expected to pursue Brian Hoyer

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 14:47:51 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is expected to receive interest from the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets have not signed Ryan Fitzpatrick at this point and likely will look at Hoyer because he probably would be cheaper to sign. Hoyer would have a good chance to be a starter if he signs with the Jets but would only be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Pittsburgh interested in Brian Hoyer

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 14:18:50 -0700

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Texans) is expected to receive interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers are looking for backup quarterback and Hoyer could be an option if he is not able to find a starting job. Hoyer would not have much fantasy value if he signs with Pittsburgh and would be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Texans | Brian Hoyer released

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 14:10:24 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer was released Sunday, April 17, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer should receive interest from multiple teams and may have a chance to compete for a starting job depending on his new team. Hoyer would be nothing more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins a job in 2016.

Texans | Brandon Weeden contract details

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 13:31:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans QB Brandon Weeden re-signed to a two-year, $4 million contract Friday, April 1, according to a source. The move could lead to the release of QB Brian Hoyer.

Fantasy Tip: It would be a surprise at this point if Hoyer was not released. The Texans will start Brock Osweiler with Weeden backing him up. Teams like the Denver Broncos and New York Jets could take a chance on Hoyer, but he won't be in the QB1 conversation any time soon.

Jets | Brian Hoyer of interest to Jets

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 09:35:49 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer is merely a fantasy backup if he lands in a spot to start.

Texans | Brian Hoyer departure imminent

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 15:57:00 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer is available for trade as both sides have mutually agreed to part ways.

Fantasy Tip: There are a couple of potential suitors that could be interested in Hoyer, including the New York Jets and Denver Broncos. It's more likely that he'll serve in a veteran, backup role, though. He's not starting caliber material for fantasy purposes.

Jets | Brian Hoyer an option for New York?

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 12:17:52 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer could be pursued by the New York Jets if he were to be released, but he's at the bottom of the priority list, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer better serves as a veteran backup at this stage in his career. The Jets could be desperate if they don't re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, though. Hoyer is far from a starting caliber fantasy quarterback.

Broncos | Denver not rushing QB decision

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 10:03:45 -0700

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said the Broncos are not in a rush to add another quarterback this offseason. Kubiak said QB Mark Sanchez will learn the team's offense quickly because of his familiarity with the verbiage during his days in college, and Sanchez has been at the team facility offseason since he signed. Free-agent QBs Robert Griffin III (Redskins) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) are options, as well as trading for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer or Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon.

Fantasy Tip: Denver will likely bring in another QB either through the draft, in free agency or via trade to compete with Sanchez for the starting role. At this point, whoever is under center in Week 1 for the Broncos will surely be more of a fantasy backup.

Texans | Brian Hoyer still has a role

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 09:27:44 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer still has a place as "our backup" behind QB Brock Osweiler, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: There were rumors that Hoyer would be a trade candidate after Osweiler was signed. That could still happen since there are several quarterback-needy teams out there, but it appears the Texans like the insurance. Hoyer is more of a game manager behind center, and he shouldn't excite fantasy owners at all, especially in a backup role.

Texans | Brian Hoyer wants to stay in Houston

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 20:23:25 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer likes playing for head coach Bill O'Brien and wants to stay with the team.

Fantasy Tip: With the addition of Brock Osweiler, Hoyer will be a backup if he remains in Houston. It is unlikely Hoyer will be worth drafting in 2016.

Texans | Tom Savage in line to be backup?

Texans | Brian Hoyer up for trade

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 10:08:45 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer is being shopped on the trade market.

Fantasy Tip: There are a number of unsolved quarterback situations around the league, so it's possible he lands on his feet elsewhere. His fantasy value is really minimal, though.

Jets | NY could target Brian Hoyer

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:53:42 -0800

The New York Jets could target Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer if they aren't able to trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer would be a last-ditch effort for the Jets if they can't re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick or trade for Kap. Hoyer is more of a game manager behind center and would have very little fantasy value. If he came to the Jets, it would also hurt the fantasy values of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Broncos | Denver interested in Brian Hoyer?

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 09:35:54 -0800

The Denver Broncos could come calling for Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer. The Texans are expected to part ways with him.

Fantasy Tip: This would likely be a last-ditch effort for the Broncos if other options didn't work out. Hoyer is more of a game manager that would be paired with the Broncos' strong defense. Hoyer is nothing more than a weak fantasy backup QB.

Texans | Brian Hoyer likely to be cut

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 12:30:34 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer is likely to be released after the Texans agreed with QB Brock Osweiler Wednesday, March 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer will join a very underwhelming list of free-agent quarterbacks after Houston snatched up Osweiler. Wherever Hoyer lands, he's likely to be a backup again. Consider him at best, a weak fantasy backup.

Texans | Tom Savage eyeing starting QB job

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:42:29 -0800

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is intent on winning the starting job, especially in the wake of the news that team owner Bob McNair has reportedly made it very clear to general manager Rick Smith and head coach Bill O'Brien that the Texans replace Brian Hoyer.

Fantasy Tip: There seems to be some thought that Savage will compete with a first- or second-round rookie for the starting job in training camp. The loser of that competition would then fall behind Hoyer, who the Texans seem to like in a backup role. Even in O'Brien's quarterback-friendly system, Savage or the yet-to-be-named rookie would likely be little more than a low-end QB2 at best in 2016.

Texans | Brian Hoyer unlikely to be Week 1 starter

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 11:21:52 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer is unlikely to begin next season as the starter. Team owner Bob McNair has all but publicly demanded general manager Rick Smith and head coach Bill O'Brien replace the journeyman.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer melted down in the Texans' playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which was probably the final straw for McNair. Houston has been linked to almost every potential free-agent quarterback - such as Robert Griffin III - to most of the top signal-callers available in the draft that could be on the board at pick No. 22, such as Memphis' Paxton Lynch or Michigan State's Connor Cook. Either way, fantasy owners should expect Hoyer to holding a clipboard for most of 2016.

Texans | Brian Hoyer commits five turnovers

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 17:23:47 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer completed 15 of 34 passes for 136 yards and four interceptions and lost a fumble in a 30-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer picked a bad time to have his worst outing of the season. He was one of four quarterbacks used by Houston this season, and there is a good chance the Texans will be in the market for a new signal caller during the offseason.

Texans | Brian Hoyer leads team to playoffs

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 18:32:42 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer completed 25 of his 40 pass attempts for 249 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer isn't flashy, but he and his Texans won the AFC South Division title and will play in the wild-card round next weekend. If you're looking for a cheap FantasyScore option with some upside, he might be a sneaky play while allowing you to spend big at other positions.

Texans | Brian Hoyer should play

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 14:35:29 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will return to the lineup after missing the last game because of a concussion. Hoyer played well in the few games before the concussion and could be a solid starting option for owners because the Jaguars have struggled against quarterbacks at times this season.

Texans | Brian Hoyer practices Thursday

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 15:31:09 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will return to the starting lineup after he missed the last game because of a concussion. He will have a favorable matchup this week, but most owners should be able to find better options to use.

Texans | Brian Hoyer puts in full practice

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:36:18 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) took part in a full practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has cleared the concussion protocol and will start against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He could be rusty, but you can't argue with his excellent matchup that makes him worth considering as a sleeper QB on FantasyScore.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to play in Week 17

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 11:55:13 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will return as the starting quarterback in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) hasn't played since Dec. 13 against the New England Patriots, but he returns to a juicy matchup against the Jags. They allow the fourth-most fantasy points (24.4) per game to quarterbacks this year. Hoyer would qualify as a sleeper pick at the position, but he comes with plenty of risk because of his injury.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to be cleared

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 06:45:06 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is expected to receive clearance from the concussion protocol and practice Wednesday, Dec. 30. He's starting in Week 17, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is a questionable start on FantasyScore, but he is facing the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Texans | Brian Hoyer to start if healthy

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 14:30:50 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion), who is in the final stages of the concussion protocol, will be the starter in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars if he passes in time, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. Even if the Texans clinch the AFC South division Monday, Dec. 28, they will start Hoyer if he's cleared. O'Brien said he will not rest players against the Jaguars. "I think the most important thing is to win," O'Brien said. "I don't think there's any substitute for winning."

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer hasn't played since earlier this month, so there is plenty of reason to be skeptical about using him if he returns to face the Jags in Week 17. However, Jacksonville allows the fourth-most fantasy points (24.4) per game to quarterbacks this season. That at least makes Hoyer in consideration as a deep sleeper pick to save you some money.

Texans | Brandon Weeden starting Sunday

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 07:46:38 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brandon Weeden will start Week 16's game against the Tennessee Titans, with recently-signed B.J. Daniels serving as the No. 2 quarterback. QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been ruled out.

Fantasy Tip: Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) went 11-for-18 for 105 yards and a touchdown in relief of T.J. Yates during Week 15's game against the Indianapolis Colts but he is not a recommended starting option in any fantasy format. Hoyer traveled with the team to Tennessee but wasn't cleared to resume playing.

Texans | Brian Hoyer not officially ruled out

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 10:36:53 -0800

Contrary to a previous report, Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is traveling with the Texans and has not officially been ruled out for Week 16. He has still not been cleared to play, however.

Fantasy Tip: The odds still seem against Hoyer to play, in which case Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will start. If Weeden does start, he's not worth a starting spot on FantasyScore or in your championship matchup.

Texans | Brian Hoyer will not play

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 07:35:13 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will not play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 16 because he still has not received clearance to play, according to a source. QB Brandon Weeden will serve as the starting quarterback for the team.

Fantasy Tip: Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) probably will not be asked to throw much during the game but does have some solid weapons to work with in the passing game. Weeden is not a strong fantasy option and could be avoided in most leagues.

Texans | Brian Hoyer not expected to play

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 07:20:48 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is making good progress but is not expected to play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 16. Hoyer is on track to play in the Week 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) likely will be the starting quarterback this week and played well in relief in Week 15. Weeden is not a great fantasy option, and owners should be able to find better options to use.

Texans | Brian Hoyer questionable

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 17:06:44 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 25, and is listed as questionable for the Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) still needs to be cleared to play in order to start this week. Hoyer is not a great option if he is active for the game, so owners should look for other options.

Texans | Brian Hoyer limited again

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 15:12:12 -0800

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) still has not been cleared to play at this point, so owners should keep an eye out on the situation for the next few days. Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) would start if Hoyer is not able to play, but neither quarterback is a strong fantasy option.

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 23, but he is still in the concussion protocol and hasn't been fully cleared.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is too big of a risk to take on FantasyScore this weekend. Brandon Weeden ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) isn't a viable starting option in fantasy if he receives a start, either.

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is scheduled to meet with an independent neurologist Tuesday, Dec. 22, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: Hoyer is a starting option for the Texans this week against the Tennessee Titans if he receives clearance to play.
