Vikings | Mike Wallace wants to prove himself again

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:12:39 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace said he definitely has something to prove this year on his new team. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner said the only thing that matters for Wallace is how he performs when he's on the field, not what he says off it. "If he makes plays, [if] he does the things we want him to do, [if] he works hard in practice, [if] he sets an example in his actions in terms of the way he approaches preparation, then that's leadership," Turner said. "What guys say is very meaningless to me. It's obviously what they do."

Fantasy Tip: Wallace was a distraction for the Miami Dolphins last year, so he does need to prove that he won't cause the same distractions for the Vikings this year. He is currently the fourth-highest paid wide receiver in the league, although the statistics aren't there to back that up. Wallace is due for a show-me season, but he should be viewed as a WR3 to be on the safe side.

Vikings | Mike Wallace looking to do more

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 19:51:02 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace was added for his speed and experience, but he comes to training camp looking to do more than that. "I've got to take some things from Miami that I don't think I did as well and just try to bring it here and be a better person and a better player. Just lead more," Wallace said Monday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has struggled over the past two seasons, posting a total of 21 receptions for 20-plus yards despite his tremendous speed. He is worth a look as a WR2/3 or flex fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams.

Vikings | Mike Wallace impresses at camp

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 17:50:30 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace was impressive during training camp Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: There will likely be an adjustment period for Wallace in his first year in Minnesota, but there should be opportunities for him to stretch the field with defenses focusing on slowing down Adrian Peterson. He should make a serviceable WR3.

Vikings | Mike Wallace has struggled vs. NFC

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 14:29:22 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace has gained just 65.29 yards per game in 24 games against NFC teams over his six-year career.

Fantasy Tip: Games against NFC opponents represent 25% of Wallace's games played over his career, but it's still something to consider since he'll be playing against 12 NFC teams in 2015. It will also be Wallace's first season with a new team and a new quarterback, so there is some risk involved. Drafting him as a WR3 would be reasonable.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson working out

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 10:29:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has been working out with RB Jerick McKinnon and WR Mike Wallace since offseason workouts ended.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson appears to be ready to play for the Vikings this season and is preparing for training camp. Peterson should be considered a first-round draft pick and may be one of the safer options available.

Vikings | Mike Wallace bonding with QB

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 16:28:00 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace has been working to develop a bond with QB Teddy Bridgewater this offseason. "We've linked up at the crib a couple of times, about three or four times already since I've been here and just vibe. You can talk a little bit about football but really just getting a connection and a bond. On the field, it's going to come naturally," said Wallace.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is working to establish a bond similar to what he had with Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, after he never really gelled with Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill. Wallace is currently being drafted as a WR3, but he has WR2 potential.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater working with new WR

Fri, 29 May 2015 16:23:22 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater said he has been spending extra time with WR Mike Wallace and working on the routes they used during practice.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater had some solid outings in the second half of the 2014 season and is looking to improve his play. Bridgewater could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback this season and could be a starting option against certain opponents. Wallace will be a start for the Vikings and could have more fantasy value if the team throws more deep passes. Wallace could be an option in the middle rounds of drafts.

Vikings | Mike Wallace digs new offense

Thu, 28 May 2015 09:34:08 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace feels at home in Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner's vertical passing system, comparing it to his time in Pittsburgh. Wallace is currently working at flanker and expects to move all over the field. He is expected to serve as the deep threat of the passing game, but Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer likes Wallace's explosiveness from any route, including screen passes.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has struggled to consistently post strong fantasy numbers, which is a trend owners can expect to continue in 2015. However, he is in the best situation we've seen in some time for the easily disgruntled wideout. When happy, he tends to be productive. Consider Wallace a WR3 in non-PPR and a fourth in reception-rewarding formats.

Vikings | Mike Wallace makes bold claim

Tue, 05 May 2015 17:12:13 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace proclaimed himself the fastest player in the NFL Tuesday, May 5, per the Pioneer Press. "If somebody feels foggy about that, we can [race]. I'm never going to back down from competition,'' said Wallace.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace will have a lot of work to do this season if he wants to prove himself correct. Wallace surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in two of his last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but posted a high of 930 yards in his three-year stint with the Miami Dolphins. With plenty of mid-level receiving options in Minnesota, Wallace will have to get off to a strong start or risk being buried on the depth chart. At this point, Wallace should be considered as not much more than a late-round flier with WR3 upside in 10 or 12 team leagues.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace traded by Miami

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 16:20:50 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace has been traded by the Dolphins to the Minnesota Vikings for a fifth-round draft choice, according a source. The Vikings will also receive a seventh-round draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins were able to trade Wallace after they acquired Kenny Stills earlier in the day. Stills could have a chance to start based on what the team does at the position. He should be considered as a No. 3 wide receiver in drafts next season. Jarvis Landry should also receive a boost in value with the move and could be a middle-round pick.

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace has been traded to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice, according a source. The Vikings will also receive a seventh-round draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace likely will be one of the starting wide receivers for the Vikings next season. He may take a small hit in terms of his fantasy value but could still be seen as a No. 3 receiver for owners next season.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace on trade block

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 12:17:21 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace has been placed on the trade block after the team acquired WR Kenny Stills in a trade.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace probably will be playing with another team next season, and his fantasy value will be determined by which team he joins. Wallace likely will be a middle-round pick in drafts next season if he is able to find a starting job with a team.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace open to restructure?

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 22:06:10 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace indicated Tuesday, March 10, that he might be open to restructuring his deal. "Like I said I am willing to help out the team, but at the same time I'm not about to do nothing crazy either. I'll definitely help the team out, but it has to be reasonable - what I feel is reasonable," Wallace said.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain what it will take and whether he will be back with the Dolphins or if he’ll be playing elsewhere in 2015. Once things become clearer his fantasy outlook will become less murky.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace return more likely?

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 12:21:15 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace's return to Miami is becoming more likely as the free agency period progresses. Wallace has said he's open to coming back to Miami and his contract doesn't seem to be as big of an issue as previously thought.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins have already lost WRs Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson, so it could be harder for the Dolphins to afford losing Wallace than it would be to afford keeping him. If he remains in Miami, he should be considered a solid WR2.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace's father: Son may stay

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 23:10:16 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace will remain with the team, according to what his father believes. "Right now, he's been talking to them," Burnell Wallace said. "He thinks he's going to stay there. He doesn't have a problem staying. (But) they really don't know. I really can't give you a definitive answer."

Fantasy Tip: Wallace projects as a low WR1 or high WR2 in most fantasy leagues, but if he ends up out of Miami things could change based on where he goes to play.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill wants Mike Wallace back

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 11:03:39 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he cleared the air with WR Mike Wallace, and the two have no problem. Tannehill said he wants Wallace to return, and the team will consider Tannehill's input when they make their decision on Wallace.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is being difficult with Miami, as he's said he won't restructure his current contract. The Dolphins could save quite a bit of cash if they decide to cut Wallace outright. It may be in Miami's best interests to retain Wallace, however, if at least for the sake of Tannehill's future after they already cut Brandon Gibson and Brian Hartline. Wallace had a disappointing 2014 season, but he still managed 67 catches for 862 yards and 10 touchdowns. A move away from Miami probably wouldn't hurt his fantasy value. Stay tuned.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace won't restructure

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 07:42:09 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace is unwilling to restructure his contract and would rather test free agency, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace is unlikely to return to Miami, and a quarterback that can utilize him in deep routes would do wonders for his fantasy value. Wallace is a great WR3 with WR2 potential.

Dolphins | Miami shopping Mike Wallace

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 18:59:37 -0800

The Miami Dolphins do not plan to cut WR Mike Wallace just yet. They are exploring the trade route not just on Wallace's play, but also his fit in the locker room. He removed himself from the regular season finale, and had a shouting match with head coach Joe Philbin afterwards. Wallace is due $9.85 million in 2015, part of a five-year, $60 million deal that runs through 2017.

Fantasy Tip: He had trouble jelling with Ryan Tannehill, and it'll be tough to get much value in a trade. His time appears to be over in Miami, and if he lands on a team that can utilize him better in deep routes, he could be a low-end WR2 on draft day.

Dolphins | Three Miami receivers could be cut

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 12:39:58 -0800

Miami Dolphins WRs Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson could all be let go this offseason if contracts aren't restructured. Wallace, especially, likely won't take a paycut on the $9.85 million he's due next season. Hartline is due $5.9 million but could restructure this offseason. Gibson isn't believed to be worth the $3.225 million he's due, so he could also be gone.

Fantasy Tip: Hartline wasn't really more than a WR3 in point-per-reception leagues, and Gibson was too dependent on touchdowns. Wallace has WR2 potential, but has been too unhappy in Miami and even benched himself in the last game of the 2014 season. Keep tabs on this situation as the offseason progresses.

Dolphins | Miami could seek Mike Wallace restructure

Fri, 13 Feb 2015 06:08:38 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace could be asked to restructure his contract in the offseason. Wallace, who's owed $9.9 million ($3 million guaranteed) in 2015, is unlikely to restructure.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace showed flashes of being a good WR3 in the early part of the season, and his PPR value was a nice surprise. It's questionable that he returns to Miami, but he should be a WR3 or WR4 wherever he lands.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace meets with GM

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 07:03:27 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace recently had a meal with general manager Dennis Hickey, but the team still is undecided about Wallace's future with the team, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has a $12.1 million salary cap hit for 2015, so there is a chance the team decides to trade or release him. Wallace probably will be a starter for a team next season and could be a No. 3 wide receiver option for owners next season.

Dolphins | Can clear $40 million in cap space

Tue, 27 Jan 2015 16:27:50 -0800

The Miami Dolphins will be able to clear $40 million in cap space in order to get under the projected $140-142 million cap for 2015. Either WR Mike Wallace or WR Brian Hartline will likely be named one of the two pre-June 1 cuts, the difference between cutting one or the other is $950,000. Hartline could also be asked to restructure his contract. LB Dannell Ellerbe's impending release will clear $8.45 million. Even if Wallace remains with the Dolphins for 2015, he'll likely be cut before the 2016 season when he's due $12.5 million in base salary and bonuses.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace wants to return to Miami

Fri, 23 Jan 2015 18:31:36 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said he wants to return to the team next season, but he added that he would welcome testing the free agent market if the team chooses to release him.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace hasn't produced as many big plays in Miami as he did in Pittsburgh, but he did score 10 touchdowns last year. If he is released, his fantasy value will hinge on where he ends up signing.

Dolphins | GM non-committal on Mike Wallace

Wed, 21 Jan 2015 18:00:41 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace's future with the team is unclear. General manager Dennis Hickey would not say Wednesday, Jan. 21, whether Wallace will be back or if his end of season drama will play into the decision. Wallace said everything is being evaluated.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace had a rather disappointing season, and really hasn't been a fantasy stud since leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers. His fantasy outlook for 2015 is rather uncertain since we don't even know where he'll be at this point.

Dolphins | Owner unsure about Mike Wallace's status

Fri, 16 Jan 2015 13:54:58 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace's status for next season is not known at this point, according to owner Stephen Ross. Ross said he is not sure if anyone in the organization knows if Wallace will remain with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace could be released this offseason because of his $12.1 million salary cap hit for 2015. Wallace reportedly pulled himself out of two games this season, so he may be wearing a different uniform next season. Wallace probably will be a starting receiver wherever he plays next season and could be a No. 3 wide receiver on fantasy teams.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace quit multiple times

Mon, 12 Jan 2015 07:20:53 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace has reportedly quit on the team multiple times this season. He told his position coach before halftime of the season finale, and later repeated it to his head coach, that if he wasn't getting the football thrown to him, there was no need for him to play. He allegedly did the same thing in Week 15 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace seems unlikely to return to the team, and his fantasy value could take a hit after a pretty good season in PPR leagues.

Dolphins | No pay cut for Mike Wallace

Sun, 11 Jan 2015 09:19:29 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace is not willing to accept a pay cut this offseason, according to a source. Wallace is scheduled to count 12.1 million against the salary cap in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace could be released this offseason because of his salary cap number, but the team could also keep him since he caught 10 touchdowns this season. Wallace likely will be a middle round pick in fantasy drafts next season no matter which team he plays with in 2015.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace's status for 2015 uncertain

Sat, 10 Jan 2015 05:44:19 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace's roster spot could be in jeopardy next season, because he is scheduled to make $9.9 million in 2015 with $3 million of the salary becoming guaranteed in the first week of March. Executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said the team will make the most responsible decision for them on Wallace.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace did score 10 touchdowns this season but did see his reception and receiving yard totals drop a bit from last season. Wallace likely will be a starter wherever he plays next season and probably will be a mid-round pick in most fantasy drafts next season.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace denies quitting

Mon, 29 Dec 2014 08:22:21 -0800

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace denied the report that he took himself out of the game Sunday, Dec. 28, in Week 17. Wallace said he was told he wasn't going back in for the second half. Wallace said he'd like to remain with the team, but it isn't his decision. He denied any potential rift with the coaching staff. "I like my coach," Wallace said. "They go about their business the right way. They create a good game plan."

Fantasy Tip: Regardless of which account is accurate, Wallace seems unlikely to return to the team next season. He showed flashes despite the team's inability to throw the deep ball and shed some of the labels that pigeonholed him as only a deep receiver. He'll be in the WR3 mix in traditional formats next season.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace took himself out

Sun, 28 Dec 2014 17:56:31 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace came off the field with 2:49 left in the second quarter of the Dolphins' Week 17 game versus the New York Jets and told Miami head coach Joe Philbin that he did not want to play in the game. He was not benched, according to team sources.

Fantasy Tip: This could be premature, but with Philbin returning in 2015 as the head coach, Wallace may not be in his plans. Stay tuned, of course, as a lot can change over the course of the next several months, but his teammates reportedly said they felt abandoned by his actions.

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 12:52:10 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (back) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 26, and is listed as probable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has been a bit inconsistent during the season but has caught three touchdowns in his last two games. He will be facing an average New York Jets pass defense and should have some chances to produce. Wallace could be a flex option for owners, but is not a great option to use this week.

Dolphins | Offensive line hurting Mike Wallace?

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 19:24:39 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace was targeted mainly on shorter passes in Week 13, and Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald believes the injury to OT Branden Albert (knee) has forced the Dolphins to use shorter passing routes to help protect QB Ryan Tannehill.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has yet to record a 100-yard game this season, but he has scored seven touchdowns and leads the team in receiving yards. Facing a Baltimore defense ranked 31st against the pass in Week 14, Wallace ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is worth considering at FantasyScore.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline probable

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 13:40:44 -0800

Miami Dolphins WRs Mike Wallace (chest) and Brian Hartline (knee) were both limited in practice Friday, Dec. 5, but are probable for Week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace ($5,800) is a no-brainer start at FantasyScore this week against the Ravens, who allow the most average fantasy points to wideouts this season. Hartline ($3,000) has seen his role decrease because of the emergence of Jarvis Landry, but Hartline could be a deep sleeper this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will know more about Wallace's injury Thursday, Nov. 27, when the Dolphins release their injury report. Wallace leads the team in receiving yards and likely will have a big role in the passing game if he plays. Wallace costs $5,800 on FantasyScore, but owners should wait for more on his injury before making a decision.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace, Jarvis Landry probable

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 15:00:12 -0800

Miami Dolphins WRs Mike Wallace (calf) and Jarvis Landry (shoulder) were both limited in practice Friday, Nov. 21, but they are both listed as probable for Week 12 against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Landry ($3,700) should be the safer and more profitable play at FantasyScore this weekend, with the Broncos allowing the fifth-most receptions to receivers this year (141). Wallace ($5,700) has boom potential, but Ryan Tannehill has struggled on deep routes, and Wallace will likely be covered by Aqib Talib.

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 15:38:54 -0800

Miami Dolphins WRs Mike Wallace (calf) and Jarvis Landry (shoulder) were both limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Landry ($3,700) has better potential for a return on your investment at FantasyScore than Wallace ($5,700), especially because of Ryan Tannehill's inability to hit on the deep pass. But both players could be good investments this weekend against the Denver Broncos, especially if Miami is forced to play from behind.

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (calf) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: On paper, Wallace's matchup with the Denver Broncos looks good this weekend; the Broncos allow the fourth-most receptions to wideouts all season. However, Wallace ($5,700) has struggled to connect with Ryan Tannehill deep, and he may be blanketed by Aqib Talib, one of the league's tougher cornerbacks.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace doesn't blame OC

Sat, 15 Nov 2014 11:23:28 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said it's not offensive coordinator Bill Lazor's fault for the offense's struggles. Wallace said Lazor is making good calls, but the players need to execute better and stop leaving touchdowns on the field.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace has not been immune to the offense's struggles. He has scored just once in three weeks despite no fewer than seven targets. It's hard to stick with the lack of consistency, but Wallace is still the team's best playmaker and worth at least a flex start on a weekly basis.

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 09:47:27 -0800

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace continues to struggle with his connection with QB Ryan Tannehill on deep balls. Meanwhile, WR Jarvis Landry is becoming the team's best playmaker in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: Wallace had four catches (seven targets) for 38 yards in the Thursday night win over the Buffalo Bills. However, Landry has become the much safer and consistent play in point-per-reception leagues like FantasyScore.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace frustrated with offense

Wed, 29 Oct 2014 10:48:51 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace isn't happy that he's not receiving deep targets in the offense this year. Wallace was also frustrated with the lack of success on offense against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8, in which they only put up 13 points. Wallace had a deep catch on Sunday, but he had only one catch after that, and the team had only 178 yards through the air, dropping them to 25th in the league in passing. QB Ryan Tannehill has thrown the ball over 20 yards just 23 times this year and has only completed seven of those throws. Wallace leads the team in catches (32) and receiving yards (418).

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins have gone away from the deep pass more recently, as Tannehill has struggled in that arena in his career. That makes Wallace less likely to bust big plays, which is his forte. Consider Wallace a WR3 or flex option.

Dolphins | Brian Hartline a forgotten man

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 14:33:29 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline has become a forgotten man in the team's offense after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. He is currently fourth on the team in catches (16) and third in receiving yards (161), and he's on pace for his worst statistical season since 2011. The Dolphins have basically stopped throwing his way; he was targeted just twice in Week 6 and was without a catch for the first time in almost two years. Tannehill has had the most snaps of any receiver on the team in every game this year, but only once was he targeted more often than WR Mike Wallace.

"Sometimes teams commit, whether they play cloud, whether they double-cover, there are multiple different coverages. We are a progression-based passing game. Sometimes it's just the way the ball rolls and the snaps are thrown, it just hasn't been (there). He hasn't been targeted quite as much, but I'm sure he is going to have his days," head coach Joe Philbin said. WR Jarvis Landry has emerged as a legitimate receiving threat, too, and he had a team-high six-catches for 75 yards and a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers last week.

Fantasy Tip: Until Hartline is utilized more often in the offense, he won't be an intriguing pick for your FantasyScore lineups. He comes with a $4,300 (8.6% of cap) salary this weekend against the Chicago Bears.

Dolphins | Mike Wallace limited

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 13:44:52 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (foot) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 9, for the second straight day.

Fantasy Tip: His status will need monitoring heading into the weekend, but a player who is limited most of the week may not be worth the risk on FantasyScore. Nevertheless, his price is $5,700.
