Patriots | Julian Edelman was most targeted slot WR

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 19:27:51 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman had the highest target percentage from the slot of any wide receiver in the NFL during the 2016 season. He was targeted 29.1 percent of the time when he lined up in the slot, while retired WR Steve Smith (28 percent) and Oakland Raiders WR Michael Crabtree (26.7 percent) finished second and third, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't be too much of a surprise, as Edelman has always been one of Tom Brady's favorite weapons throughout his career. That figures to continue in 2017, as despite entering his age-31 season, the eight-year veteran continues to be as productive as any wide-out in the league. Even with Brandin Cooks joining the receiving corps, it looks like Edelman can be trusted again as a high-end receiver.

Patriots | Julian Edelman can earn $19 million

Fri, 09 Jun 2017 05:46:31 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman can earn a maximum of $19 million with his two-year extension. He received a $5 million signing bonus, a $3 million salary in 2017 with a $750,000 roster bonus ($46,875 per game), a $250,000 workout bonus and $500,000 in incentives. In 2018, his $2 million base salary is fully guaranteed with a $500,000 workout bonus, $500,000 roster bonus and $500,000 in incentives. In 2019, his $2 million salary is guaranteed for injury with a $500,000 workout bonus, $500,000 roster bonus and $3.5 million in incentives.

Fantasy Tip: As strange as it may seem, Edelman's 1,106 yards were a career high last season. He also had 98 grabs but only three touchdowns. At 31, his name value may carry more weight than in fantasy as he has only had two 1,000-yard seasons. His playstyle doesn't help him, either, as he doesn't shy away from hits in the slot. He's still in the WR2 discussion, but there are options with more upside.

Patriots | Julian Edelman extension terms

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 17:49:08 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's two-year extension that he agreed on Thursday, June 8, is worth $11 million, with $9 million in total guarantees.

Fantasy Tip: Despite being on the verge of entering his age-31 campaign, Edelman has continued to prove his worth year in and year out, and is coming off a season in which he registered his highest reception (98) and yardage (1,106) totals since 2013. Interestingly, he was also never targeted more than he was last year. Thus, he's always worth a look in fantast drafts as a WR2.

Patriots | Julian Edelman talks progressing

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 11:49:01 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's contract extension talks are moving forward and an agreement should be made in the next day or so, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman is entering a contract year, so it's no surprise that an extension would get done this offseason. He's the Patriots' most consistent wide receiver and deserves low-end WR1 to high-end WR2 consideration in PPR formats.

Patriots | Julian Edelman sticking around?

Sun, 21 May 2017 17:40:29 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman is in the final year of his contract, but former teammate Heath Evans said he doesn't expect a contract dispute like the one that saw WR Wes Welker leave New England and sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency. "I don't think we're going to see that with Jules," Evans said. "I think Jules embraces the grind-it-out-for-the-common-good mentality."

Fantasy Tip: The addition of Brandin Cooks and a healthy Rob Gronkowski could eat into Edelman's targets, but he has Tom Brady's trust, and that should keep him comfortably in the WR2 conversation, especially in PPR formats.

Patriots | Julian Edelman productive on road

Sat, 11 Feb 2017 12:44:24 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman caught all three of his touchdowns on the road this season. He finished the season with 43 receptions and 522 yards at home while catching 55 receptions for 584 yards on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman had a slow period near the beginning of the season but finished strong with at least 75 yards in seven of the last eight regular season games. He should continue to be the No. 1 receiver for the Patriots and can be a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver for fantasy owners.

Patriots | Julian Edelman tops 100 yards

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 18:47:37 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman snared eight passes for 118 yards and a touchdown catch Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman was his typically dynamic self, and he is as productive as anyone when healthy. The upcoming draft season should find him placed somewhere in the neighborhood of being a WR2 in PPR and a third in standard scoring.

Patriots | Julian Edelman has busy night

Sat, 14 Jan 2017 21:03:52 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman finished with eight catches on 13 targets for 137 yards in a 34-16 win over the Houston Texans Saturday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman has now been targeted at least 11 times in seven of his last eight games, and he has topped 70 yards in every game during that span. He has one of the safest floors of any receiver.

Patriots | Julian Edelman busy in finale

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 19:15:52 -0800

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman racked up eight receptions for a season-high 151 yards and a touchdown on 13 targets in the Week 17 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman finished the season with at least five receptions in eight consecutive games, and he ended the season with 98 catches, 1,106 yards and three scores. He is a PPR fantasy owner's dream, and he will be a solid WR2 in most standard postseason fantasy formats.
