An autopsy shows former Kansas City Chiefs LB Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend nine times before he killed himself. The autopsy report says Kasandra Perkins was shot in the neck, chest, abdomen, hip, back, leg and hand. Belcher and Perkins had an infant daughter, and their families are fighting for custody of her.

Former Kansas City Chiefs LB Jovan Belcher reportedly sent a text message to his secret girlfriend saying he "would shoot" Kasandra Perkins, just months before he killed her and later took his own life, according to the police report. Belcher texted the other woman that he "would shoot" the 22-year-old mother of his three-month-old daughter "if she didn't leave him alone." According to the police report, the secret girlfriend, also 22 years old, believed Belcher was joking.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel, linebackers coach Gary Gibbs and general manager Scott Pioli, who all witnessed former LB Jovan Belcher's suicide, are among a small group of Chiefs who must attend mandatory counseling, according to Troy Vincent, the NFL's vice president of player engagement. Initial stages of counseling will continue through early next week, with follow-up sessions for individuals and groups scheduled throughout the next three months, or longer if needed.

Former Kansas City Chiefs LB Jovan Belcher's mother begged her son's dying girlfriend to stay alive while frantically asking for an ambulance shortly after the linebacker shot the mother of his three-month-old daughter, according to a recording released Wednesday, Dec. 5, of the emergency call. "She's still breathing but please hurry," Cheryl Shepherd said on the recording of her call with Kansas City emergency dispatchers. "I don't know how he (inaudible), they were arguing, please hurry." Shepherd is heard encouraging Kasandra Perkins to stay alive.

"The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today's events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy. We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted."
