Pirates | Jeff Locke's adjustments working

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 09:02:01 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke has adjusted his bullpen sessions between starts and focused on the direction of his front leg. Locke and the Pirates found that his stride to the plate was four inches shorter than usual, thus pushing back his release point and allowing batters more time to see the ball out of his hand. Locke now focuses on moving his right leg more toward the target during his delivery. Locke has a 1.55 ERA in his last five starts.

Fantasy Tip: Locke ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is at a tantalizing start for his matchup against the inconsistent St. Louis Cardinals offense Thursday. The Cards typically struggle against lefties, and that price is too good to pass up on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Jeff Locke is a lock at home?

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 18:09:46 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke heads into his start Thursday, July 9, against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 3-2 record and 2.64 ERA in 10 home starts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Locke ($3,900; or 7.8% of cap) allowed just two hits and no walks over eight scoreless innings last time out at home against Cleveland, and he has only one loss over his past six outings overall. For FantasyScore purposes, he has a very cap-friendly number.

Pirates | Jeff Locke solid Saturday

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 16:32:40 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke allowed two hits over eight shutout innings and fanned six to beat the Cleveland Indians Saturday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: It was his second solid start in a row. At $3,900 (7.8% of cap), he might be a sleeper starter to consider on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Jeff Locke to stay in rotation

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 16:27:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke will remain in the starting rotation, according to manager Clint Hurdle.

Fantasy Tip: Locke ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has a 5.34 ERA after giving up six earned runs in just four innings Sunday to the San Diego Padres. It's not all bad, though, as he's striking out 7.3 hitters per nine innings despite a 1.55 WHIP. Avoid Locke for the foreseeable future on FantasyScore until he turns things around.

Pirates | Jeff Locke rocked Sunday

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 00:26:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke was hit hard Sunday, May 31, in a 7-1 loss to the San Diego Padres. Locke lasted four innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits. He had not allowed a run in 10 2/3 innings over two starts coming in.

Fantasy Tip: Locke ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) had been doing well up to this point, and his stumbles in a pitchers park like Petco do yield some concerns. He has had two good outings and one bad, which suggests you should check the matchups before proceeding in the future.

Pirates | Vance Worley out of rotation?

Sun, 17 May 2015 14:15:29 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Vance Worley is being skipped in the team's rotation this week. SP Francisco Liriano will pitch Tuesday, May 19, against the Minnesota Twins and SP Jeff Locke will throw Wednesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Worley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) may be out of the rotation completely with the return of Charlie Morton ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) to active duty. Drop Worley from your lineups for now.

Pirates | Is Jeff Locke a FantasyScore lock?

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 21:06:12 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke is the probable starter for Thursday, April 23, against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Locke is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA this season, and 1-1 with a 3.81 ERA in five career starts against the Cubbies. FantasyScore players might want to take a flier on him at just $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap) for their second pitcher spot.

Pirates | Jeff Locke wants more consistency

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 22:54:02 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke said Friday, March 6, that one of his goals this spring is to be more creative against left-handed hitters. "So many people are so conventional, with left-on-left changeups, etc. You have to be a little unconventional sometimes. You have to find out what works for you," Locke said.

Fantasy Tip: Locke is battling Vance Worley for the final spot in the Pittsburgh rotation. The winner of the battle will have use in NL-only leagues, while fantasy owners in deeper NL-only rotisserie formats will be the only ones who want the loser of the battle.

Pirates | Jeff Locke ill

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 05:52:45 -0800

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke (illness) was excused from camp Thursday, Feb. 19, due to fever and chills.

Fantasy Tip: Locke has shown flashes of a solid fantasy pitcher, but he has yet to put it all together. He'll be a back-end rotation option in NL-only leagues.
