Giants | Mike Leake starting Saturday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 18:29:31 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) will start against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) said that his hamstring isn't at 100 percent yet and might not be for the remainder of the season. That being said, he claims that he is able to pitch without experiencing any pain. FantasyScore owners should avoid committing to him Saturday, to see if he is able to pitch effectively with the nagging injury.

Giants | Chris Heston being sent down

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:40:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston will be sent to Class AAA Sacramento to receive a breather from the rotation. SP Mike Leake (hamstring) will return from the disabled list to take Heston's spot in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds as if Heston could come back up and rejoin the rotation eventually before this season is over, so he should be kept in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues if you have room. Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) had been lights out before being traded to San Fran and being injured. Practice caution when considering using him on FantasyScore for his next start.

Giants | Mike Leake could start Sunday

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 17:03:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) is likely to start against the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday, Aug. 23. He threw a successful bullpen session Wednesday, Aug. 19, and said he is running at 75 percent.

Fantasy Tip: Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) said he is not experiencing any pain while pitching but he is still a somewhat risky play in FantasyScore due to his inconsistency. Avoid using him unless he is facing an extremely weak lineup.

Giants | Mike Leake set to return to rotation

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 16:36:19 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) will return to start a game during the upcoming series against the Pittsburgh Pirate, according to manager Bruce Bochy. "He's real close," Bochy said. "It's now just a matter of what game we insert him in."

Fantasy Tip: Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) should be started with caution in all fantasy formats going forward. The Giants are dealing with a slew of injuries, and Leake has been extremely inconsistent this season. Plus, he owns a measly 6.0 K/9. It would be wise to limit your exposure to when Leake faces an extremely weak opposing lineup.

Giants | Mike Leake won't return Tuesday

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 21:37:31 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) will not come off of the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 18, as expected. SP Ryan Vogelsong will start in his absence with SP Matt Cain starting Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will want to avoid Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) until he can officially return and shake off the rust and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Giants | Mike Leake to start Tuesday

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 01:36:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) will come off the 15-day disabled list and start Tuesday, Aug. 18, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) may need a start to work out the kinks, so wait until he has one start off the DL under his belt before you put him in your FantasyScore lineup.

Giants | Mike Leake on track for Tuesday

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 12:32:06 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) has passed all of his tests and is on track to come off the disabled list and start against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, Aug. 18. SP Ryan Vogelsong will make one more start in Leake's place Thursday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been an excellent value play on FantasyScore this year, but using him in his first start off the DL against the team with the best record in baseball next week seems like too big of a risk.

Giants | Mike Leake throws 30 pitches

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 18:18:53 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Leake will miss another start or be able to take his next scheduled turn. If not, Ryan Vogelsong ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is likely to get the starting nod again in Leake's absence.

Giants | Mike Leake heading to DL

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 11:35:19 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain Friday, Aug. 7. P Josh Osich was recalled from Class AAA in a corresponding move. The DL move is retroactive to Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Leake's new team greatly increases his fantasy value, so you'll want to hang onto him in all leagues. Ryan Vogelsong ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is starting in Leake's spot against the Chicago Cubs tonight, and he's likely to hold that spot until Leake is ready to return. The Cubs strike out frequently as a team, but Vogelsong is inconsistent and is a shaky FantasyScore option on the road.

Giants | Mike Leake could miss two starts

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 21:14:24 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake (hamstring) could miss two starts due to a mild left hamstring strain. The decision on whether he misses one or two starts will be made Friday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Vogelsong ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) will start in Leake's place Friday, Aug. 7, and he would likely draw another start if Leake misses a second start.
