Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner (shoulder) will throw a bullpen Friday, April 18, and should be ready for a rehab assignment shortly after that. The team doesn't need a fifth starter after Sunday, April 20, until May 3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, so SP Kevin Slowey might only receive one start.
Fantasy Tip: Slowey probably isn't worth adding, even in NL-only leagues, because his start Sunday is likely to be his last, at least for a while.

Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner's (shoulder) MRI exam revealed a right shoulder strain, and there is no timetable for his return.

Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner (shoulder) complained of shoulder pain after hitting in the batting cage before his start Wednesday, April 9. SP Brad Hand took Turner's rotation spot Wednesday, and he figures to remain in the rotation until Turner returns. Turner could be activated as early as April 18, meaning he could only miss two starts.
Fantasy Tip: It's good news that Turner's shoulder injury didn't come as the result of throwing, but rather swinging. There's optimism that he can return when eligible. Hand is only an NL-only commodity for the desperate.

The Miami Marlins placed SP Jacob Turner (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain Wednesday, April 9, and recalled RP Arquimedes Caminero from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Miami Marlins SP Jacob Turner is all but guaranteed a starting rotation spot this year. President of baseball operations Michael Hill mentions SPs Brad Hand, Brian Flynn and Tom Koehler as candidates to compete for the fifth and final rotation spot. SPs Andrew Heaney, Justin Nicolino, Adam Conley and Anthony DeSclafini will receive spring innings to prove themselves, but they'll likely start in the minors.

The Miami Marlins exercised SP Jacob Turner's 2014 option Thursday, Oct. 31, and reinstated OF Marcell Ozuna (thumb) from the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

The Miami Marlins are considering giving SP Jacob Turner more rest before his next start after he failed to go six innings for his sixth straight start Sunday, Sept. 8. His next turn in the rotation is scheduled to come up Friday, Sept. 13, against the New York Mets. SPs Brad Hand and Brian Flynn will play into the equation in the starting rotation down the stretch.
Fantasy Tip: Turner appears to be tiring down the stretch, which is a good reason for the Fish to rest him in the final weeks. Hand and Flynn should only be considered in NL-only universes.

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez will be shut down at around 170 innings this year. He's currently at 139 2/3 innings, so he could be shut down before the season's final month. Fernandez had never pitched above Class A before this season as a 21-year-old. The team could decide to shut SP Jacob Turner down, too, if he shows signs of fatigue. SPs Brad Hand and Brian Flynn could be called up in September to help fill the rotation. SP Sam Dyson is another candidate. It's doubtful SPs Andrew Heaney, Anthony DeSclafini or Justin Nicolino will be recalled from Double-A Jacksonville.
Fantasy Tip: Fernandez, at 8-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 149 strikeouts, is a heavy favorite for NL Rookie of the Year honors. He's been fantastic, but the time to utilize his talents is running out. Just be aware. Any of the young hurlers the Marlins may call up would only be useful for a start or two in deep NL-only leagues. If you're in the running for a fantasy championship, it's probably wise not to rely on them.
