Chicago White Sox SPs Jacob Turner and Erik Johnson are expected to compete for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation during spring training, assuming no other offseason moves are made.
Fantasy Tip: Whoever wins the battle between Turner and Johnson is projected to be the sole right-handed starter in Chicago's rotation, along with SPs Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon, Jose Quintana and John Danks. Both righties are worth monitoring as potential late-round fliers for AL-only fantasy leagues.

Chicago Cubs SP Jacob Turner (elbow, shoulder) was shut down after his right elbow "flared up," president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said Wednesday, June 24.
Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Turner will be able to return and to what capacity, but he is unlikely to be back any time soon.

Chicago Cubs SPs Dan Straily, Felix Doubront and Jacob Turner will get opportunities to pitch in September, according to general manager Jed Hoyer.
Fantasy Tip: The Cubs have a bevy of end-of-rotation starters they would like to audition. Fantasy owners will want to monitor how the Cubs approach their rotation in September. Keeper/dynasty owners should also take note. A nice option for 2015 may emerge.

Chicago Cubs SP Edwin Jackson did not receive a heart-warming endorsement from manager Rick Renteria Thursday, Aug. 14, when Renteria was asked if Jackson would remain in the starting rotation. The Cubs are recalling SP Dan Straily to pitch Saturday, Aug. 16, and recently-acquired SP Jacob Turner threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Jackson Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: The Cubs have options, especially now that they recalled Straily. Jackson has the worst ERA of any pitcher qualified for the ERA title, making him unworthy of a roster spot in all formats. If Straily or Turner were to take Jackson's spot in the rotation, either would be worth a speculative add in NL-only formats and potentially in some deep mixed leagues.

Chicago Cubs SP Jacob Turner will pitch out of the bullpen for the time being after being activated Sunday, Aug. 10. He went 4-7 with a 5.97 ERA in 20 outings (12 starts) for the Miami Marlins this year.
Fantasy Tip: The Cubs took a chance on Turner, who was a former top prospect for the Fish. As long as he's pitching out of the bullpen, though, he won't have any fantasy value. He could find himself starting a few games before the season is over, though, so keep him on your radar in NL leagues.
