Blue Jays | Drew Storen designated for assignment

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:48:07 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen has been designated for assignment. In a corresponding move, RP Ryan Tepera has been promoted from Class AAA Buffalo.

Fantasy Tip: Storen has been a colossal disappointment this season, going 1-3 with three saves and a 6.21 ERA in 38 appearances for the Blue Jays, with 10 walks and 32 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings. However, don't be surprised if another team takes a flier on him based on his previous success with the Washington Nationals. Tepera is a 28-year-old right-hander who possesses no fantasy value.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz erupts in rout

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 14:53:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz connected on his 24th and 25th homers of the season in a 14-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, July 23, belting his ninth career grand slam off SP R.A. Dickey in the third inning before connecting on a three-run blast off RP Drew Storen in the eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz had not left the yard or driven in a run over his previous nine contests. Nevertheless, he is batting .302 in July, ranks fourth in the AL in home runs and tied for seventh in RBI (65) with teammate Kyle Seager. Cruz appears poised for his third consecutive 40-homer campaign and remains a must-start in all formats.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen closes it out

Tue, 31 May 2016 03:51:38 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen picked up a two-out save, his third of the year, against the New York Yankees Monday, May 30, with RP Roberto Osuna (rest) unavailable.

Fantasy Tip: Storen will pick up the occasional save as the setup man, but he owns an ugly 6.75 ERA and isn't going to become the full-time closer any time soon.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen could be traded

Sun, 22 May 2016 07:51:17 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen is reportedly being made available to teams searching for bullpen help. Scouts from the Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants were present for the game against the Minnesota Twins Saturday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Although Storen tossed a scoreless inning Saturday, he has struggled mightily for much of 2016. The 28-year-old right-hander is 0-2 with two saves and a 7.80 ERA in 18 appearances, with four walks and 16 strikeouts over 15 innings. Depending on where he lands if he is traded, he could be used as either a setup man or a closer.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen fills in, notches save

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 16:07:37 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen picked up a save Monday, April 18, against the Boston Red Sox with RP Roberto Osuna (blister) unavailable. It wasn't easy, though, as Storen allowed two runs on three hits in the ninth inning, while striking out one.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna said he "thinks" he'll be ready for Tuesday, so this was just a temporary setup and his owners need not worry. If anything, the shaky outing by Storen today further solidified that Osuna is the team's closer. He'll resume his regular duties whenever he's ready.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna won't be available

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 14:08:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna will not be available to pitch Tuesday, April 5, after pitching back-to-back days. RP Drew Storen is expected to pitch in the ninth if a save situation arises.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna is a solid second closer for fantasy owners, but Storen, for reasons like this, remains valuable to owners in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna named closer

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 05:21:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna was named the closer over RP Drew Storen Wednesday, March 30. Manager John Gibbons said familiarity was the key.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna had a 2.58 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP and 75 K's in 69 2/3 innings last year while converting 20 of 23 saves. He bumps up to the low-end RP2 or high-end RP3 range while Storen plummets to the low-end RP3 range.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen turning heads in camp

Sat, 27 Feb 2016 20:30:12 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen had another strong bullpen session Saturday, Feb. 27, and he is drawing rave reviews from his teammates and coaching staff. The team hasn't made an official announcement, but he is projected to serve as the team's closer.

Fantasy Tip: Storen has closing experience from his time in Washington. If he suffers some sort of backslide, Roberto Osuna is waiting in the wings for another chance at ninth-inning duties.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen the favorite to close

Sat, 20 Feb 2016 13:35:53 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen is the favorite to close, according to manager John Gibbons. " Storen is pretty much a one-inning guy," Gibbons said. "And I think you can stretch (Roberto Osuna) out a little bit, say maybe an inning-plus. So if that's the case, I don't know, maybe that gives the edge to Storen as the closer. And maybe you can use Roberto some different ways. We'll see."

Fantasy Tip: Storen is a midrange RP2 if he lands the job. Osuna is worth taking as a third or fourth reliever.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen the closer in Toronto?

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 14:17:09 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen looks to be the likely closer for the Blue Jays in 2016 over RP Roberto Osuna, although Toronto could have a competition for the role deep into spring training. There is no rush to make a decision. Storen has more experience as a closer and will be paid $8.375 million. Osuna is a former starter, too, and it could be attractive to have the option of using him for multiple innings as a setup man. RP Aaron Sanchez is a dark horse candidate, but it looks like he'll have the chance to win a starting job this spring.

Fantasy Tip: You'll have to keep a close eye on the competition this spring, but if you're drafting before then, speculate on Storen once the top closers come off the board. Whoever loses the job will lose significant fantasy value as a reliever.
