Washington Nationals RP Ross Detwiler will have a bigger role in the bullpen, according to manager Matt Williams. RP Jerry Blevins will be used as more of a left-handed specialist.
Fantasy Tip: Detwiler has a 1.23 ERA with a .146 opponents' batting average this season. He could sneak into the mix if Rafael Soriano continues to struggle. However, Drew Storen is first in line in that scenario.

Washington Nationals RP Rafael Soriano is the team's closer, according to manager Matt Williams. Williams noted he did not consider leaving P Drew Storen in for the ninth inning Monday, July 28.
Fantasy Tip: Soriano allowed just 17 hits and four earned runs before July. He has surrendered nine earned runs on 10 hits this month. His job is safe, but the Nationals are trying to win a division and loyalty is largely performance based, especially in the ninth inning. Tyler Clippard should be owned in the majority of formats.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen's new changeup has helped make him one of the most dominant relievers in baseball this year. Through 14 1/3 innings, he has allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out 15. Storen is throwing his changeup 11.9 percent of the time to keep opponents from cheating on his fastball.
Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for those that own Storen in deep leagues, Rafael Soriano has been lights out in the closer's role to begin the year. However, Storen is next in line should Soriano falter at any point, and Storen's peripherals help regardless.

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams is considering using RP Drew Storen in the eighth inning. Storen has retired 22 of 24 batters he's faced so far this year, with nine strikeouts and no walks. "I expect Drew to be ready to pitch at any point," Williams said. "He can pitch the seventh. He can pitch the eighth. He can close if need be. He's done it before and had success doing all three. Does it change roles? I think that's yet to be determined. We'll see how that all plays out. But he's capable, sure."
Fantasy Tip: Because of Storen's hot start and Tyler Clippard's poor performance early on, Storen should be considered the primary setup man to Rafael Soriano at this point. Add Storen in deep mixed leagues if you are looking to improve your counting pitching stats or if you want a handcuff to Soriano.

Washington Nationals RP Rafael Soriano struggled in his appearance Monday, March 10, allowing five runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in one inning. He has given up seven runs on eight hits in 1 2/3 innings this spring. His body language on Monday didn't look upbeat, and a scout said his fastball sat between 89 and 91 mph, which was close to his average from 2013. Manager Matt Williams isn't concerned.
Fantasy Tip: However, since these are tendencies Soriano displayed at times last season, fantasy owners should pay attention. His K/9 drop pointed to potential problems in the future. If he can't turn things around when regulation play starts, we could see more doses of Tyler Clippard and/or Drew Storen in save spots. Plan accordingly in your draft and be careful not to overpay for Soriano.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen could be traded if the team elects to sign free-agent RP Grant Balfour (Athletics). Storen is set to make $3.5 million in 2014, and while he was decent in the final month and a half of the season, he struggled so much last season that he was briefly demoted to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Washington Nationals avoided arbitration with RP Drew Storen Friday, Jan. 17, by agreeing to a one-year, $3.45 million deal.

The Washington Nationals aren't looking to trade RPs Tyler Clippard or Drew Storen or OF Denard Span, according to general manager Mike Rizzo. "We haven't been fielding all that many calls on Clippard and Storen," Rizzo said. "There's a lot of 'lobby talk,' I call it, about it. But there's been actually no offer, no trade scenario that's official, that included Clippard or Storen. Or Span." The price for Clippard or Storen would be very high if they change their mind.
