Washington Nationals RP Casey Janssen said the team told him that he will set up RP Drew Storen this season. "I talked to (general manager) Mike Rizzo and (manager) Matt Williams, and they both said, 'You are going to pitch quality innings in the game.' They said Drew Storen is our closer. My job is to get the ball to him. I'm going to embrace that role and try to get him the ball with the lead."

Washington Nationals RP Rafael Soriano will have his playoff fate decided in the next 10 days after RP Drew Storen has locked down the closer's role. Soriano is feeling more comfortable with his setup role and said he'd be ready for the playoffs after a few more games. Soriano preserved a four-run lead with a perfect ninth inning Thursday, Sept. 18. The team's final relief spot for the postseason will likely come down to Soriano and RPs Jerry Blevins, Xavier Cedeno and Blake Treinen. Manager Matt Williams still believes in Soriano.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen earned his third straight save over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, Sept. 9. However, manager Matt Williams hasn't declared Storen the new closer after demoting RP Rafael Soriano in favor of a committee approach recently. Storen is unlikely to pitch in four straight games Wednesday, Sept. 10, even if he has secured the job.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen has pitched very well the last couple days has been magnificent with RP Rafael Soriano temporarily demoted from the closer's role. Storen wrapped up a save by striking out all three batters he faced Monday, Sept. 8, after striking out two in a save opportunity Sunday, Sept. 7, in which he struck out two hitters. Manager Matt Williams won't give any clues about Storen claiming the closing job, but Storen has been great this year, with a 1.31 ERA, 41 strikeouts, 11 walks and just two home runs allowed in 48 innings pitched.
Storen is a new pitcher after imploding in the playoffs two years ago and being demoted to the minors. He developed a changeup late last year and has used it twice as often this season, on nearly 20 percent of his pitches. "Any time you can go to three different pitches in a two-strike count, that helps," Storen said. "Adding that changeup has been huge for me. I can throw it against righties and lefties. It's really paid off for me recently."

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams will determine his closer based on match-ups and game situation for the immediate future, using the trio of RP Drew Storen, RP Tyler Clippard and RP Matt Thornton. RP Rafael Soriano was removed from the closer's role after blowing his fifth save since the All-Star break Friday, Sept. 5.

Washington Nationals RP Ross Detwiler will have a bigger role in the bullpen, according to manager Matt Williams. RP Jerry Blevins will be used as more of a left-handed specialist.
Fantasy Tip: Detwiler has a 1.23 ERA with a .146 opponents' batting average this season. He could sneak into the mix if Rafael Soriano continues to struggle. However, Drew Storen is first in line in that scenario.

Washington Nationals RP Rafael Soriano is the team's closer, according to manager Matt Williams. Williams noted he did not consider leaving P Drew Storen in for the ninth inning Monday, July 28.
Fantasy Tip: Soriano allowed just 17 hits and four earned runs before July. He has surrendered nine earned runs on 10 hits this month. His job is safe, but the Nationals are trying to win a division and loyalty is largely performance based, especially in the ninth inning. Tyler Clippard should be owned in the majority of formats.
