Houston Astros SP Alex White (elbow) faced hitters Monday, Feb. 17, for the third time in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, throwing two sets of 15 pitches. "It felt good," he said. Houston Astros SP Alex White (elbow) threw a bullpen session Thursday, Jan. 16, in front of general manager Jeff Luhnow and members of the medical staff. He has made plenty of progress from Tommy John surgery and is expected to have few restrictions in spring training where he'll be fighting for a spot in the bullpen or starting rotation. "We know I'm not 100 percent yet, but for 90, 95 percent, it feels good and the ball was coming out of my hand really well," White said. "I've learned a few things with my mechanics and stuff like that in the process that will help me." He could face hitters in three to four weeks because he's a little ahead of schedule in his rehab.

Houston Astros SP Alex White (elbow) is seeking a second opinion on his elbow from Dr. James Andrews, who is reviewing White's MRI results. "We have a pretty good idea what's going to happen, and we're just waiting for Andrews to take a look and make a decision for us," White said. "I've gotten used to the idea, and it's going to be a long process getting back to the field. It will be day to day, and even if it's just a sprain, it's still going to take me a while to get back." White is expected to need Tommy John surgery, which will put him out for the entire season.
Fantasy Tip: If you own White in an NL league, it's probably safe to drop him at this point, as it looks inevitable that he'll need Tommy John surgery.

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Sunday, March 31, that SP Alex White (elbow) could undergo Tommy John surgery. He has already had an MRI, and the team is waiting on a second opinion before making a decision about his next move. "We'll have a long discussion about the course of action," Luhnow said. "The reason we put him on the (60-day disabled list) is he's not going to throw for at least a couple of weeks."
