Braves | Shelby Miller let down by bullpen

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 20:12:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller allowed two earned runs over seven innings with three walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision Tuesday, Aug. 4, against the San Francisco Giants. Miller was let down by his bullpen, as they gave up six runs in two innings of work to take away a win.

Fantasy Tip: After a little bit of a rough patch, it appears Miller ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) is back. He has three quality starts over his past four outings, and he has allowed four or fewer hits in those three starts. Most of his good work this season has come at Turner Field, so remember him in FantasyScore next time out Sunday at home against Brad Hand and the Miami Marlins.

Phillies | Cody Asche remains out

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:48:41 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 30. OF Odubel Herrera draws into the lineup, and he is playing center field and batting fifth against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller Thursday. OF Jeff Francoeur is also not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: The Phillies outfield is beginning look like a bit of a daily shuffle with no one starting each of the past four games. Asche ($2,500, 5.0% of cap), Herrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap), Francoeur ($2,800, 5.6% of cap), Domonic Brown ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) and Ben Revere ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) are all currently competing for playing time, but it wouldn't be shocking to see one of them traded and open up more at-bats. Against Miller ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) Thursday, none of the Philadelphia outfielders are worth a look at FantasyScore, though, and they're all low-end fantasy outfield options.

Braves | Shelby Miller has been unlucky

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:19:10 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller is 0-6 with a 2.96 ERA in his last 12 starts.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) is an excellent play on FantasyScore tonight. Although the Phillies have been hot since the All-Star break, this matchup present Miller with a good chance of earning that W while facing off against Aaron Harang.

Braves | Shelby Miller receiving little run support

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:45:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller is winless over his past nine starts, and the Braves have scored just 1.15 support runs per nine innings he has pitched during the span. Miller is 0-3 with a 2.80 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 54 2/3 innings during the drought.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) is due for some good fortune, but starting him in FantasyScore contests while pitching at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies Friday is ill-advised. It isn't out of the question to bench Miller in seasonal formats, either.

Braves | Shelby Miller fans 10 in losing effort

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:28:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller struck out 10 batters over five innings while allowing five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits and three walks during the Braves 6-1 loss to the Washington Nationals Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has gone eight starts without a win, and he was last victorious Sunday, May 17. Before his hiccup Tuesday, Miller had a 2.70 ERA over his previous seven outings, so he has been a tough-luck loser. The lack of wins hurts in all formats.

Braves | Shelby Miller solid in no-decision

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 20:47:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller allowed one earned run, three hits and a walk over seven innings in a no-decision Wednesday, June 24, against the Washington Nationals. He struck out five batters.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,700; or 17.4% of cap) lowered his ERA back to 1.94. He has posted quality starts in 11 of the past 13 outings to make him a dependable FantasyScore option regardless of the opponent.

Braves | Shelby Miller has another big game

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 21:33:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller allowed just one earned run, five hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Monday, June 8, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,600; or 17.2% of cap) continues to be a tremendous option for FantasyScore owners with his sub-1.000 WHIP and 1.84 ERA. He has quality starts in nine of the past 10 outings.

Braves | Shelby Miller tagged for loss

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 04:48:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller allowed four runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings Tuesday, June 2, but he did not get the decision as the Arizona Diamondbacks won, 7-6.

Fantasy Tip: This was the shortest outing of the season for Miller (), but it shouldn't totally shake your confidence in the pitcher. The Braves continue to get the better of the St. Louis Cardinals in this trade, which sent Jason Heyward to the Cards. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez even said Miller struggled a bit with his mechanics. He should snap back in future starts.

Braves | Shelby Miller flirts with no-hitter

Sun, 17 May 2015 19:52:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller came within one out of a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Miami Marlins Sunday, May 17, allowing two hits and striking out four in a complete-game shutout.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has been superb this year. He owns a 1.33 ERA and hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any start this year. He is providing ace-caliber production at FantasyScore for a discount price.

Braves | Shelby Miller in dominant groove

Wed, 06 May 2015 13:26:31 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller is 6-1 with a 1.58 ERA over his past 11 starts, and he has held opposing hitters to a .183 batting average. He has pitched six or more innings in eight of those starts and allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of 11 outings. His offense failed to score a single run while he was in the game in the five games he failed to win during the stretch. Miller adopted a sinker from Boston Red Sox SP Justin Masterson when they both pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals last season, and Miller began throwing the sinker a lot and became more efficient and capable of pitching deeper into games.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) credits adding the sinker to his arsenal around the 2014 All-Star break for his improved mound work. He struggled late in his rookie year with arm fatigue and then looked to be suffering through a sophomore slump early in 2014. Now, Miller appears like he could pitch his way into the conversation of being a top-tier arm. Until he proves otherwise, Miller is an excellent FantasyScore option, especially at his modest cap hit.
