Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller avoids arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 18:28:49 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks have avoided arbitration with SP Shelby Miller by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $4.35 million.

Fantasy Tip: Miller pitched much better than his 6-17 record last season suggested, with a 3.02 ERA in 33 starts and 171 strikeouts over 205 1/3 innings. The Diamondbacks' offense should provide him with greatly-improved run support and he makes a solid No. 3 fantasy starter in mixed leagues.

Diamondbacks | Arizona acquires Shelby Miller

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 17:18:58 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired SP Shelby Miller from the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, Dec. 8, but it's unclear what they received in return, according to sources. The deal is pending a review of medical records.

Fantasy Tip: Miller was much better than his record suggested last year. The additions of Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller significantly upgrade Arizona's starting rotation. Miller leaves a pitching-friendly environment for more of a neutral stadium but also joins a more productive offense. He should be a stable No. 3 fantasy starter in Arizona.

Red Sox | Boston in play for Shelby Miller?

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 11:44:12 -0800

The Boston Red Sox may be in play to trade for Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller, according to sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are also in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's a bit interesting Boston would have interest in Miller considering they just signed David Price, but they also just traded away Wade Miley. A move to Fenway Park and the powerful American League East would be a knock on his fantasy value, but he'd also be pitching for a much better offensive club. Stay tuned.

Rangers | Texas whiffing on starting pitching

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 11:05:57 -0800

The Texas Rangers haven't had any luck targeting starting pitchers on the trade market, notably for Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller, Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez and Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly.

Fantasy Tip: The hot stove season is far from over, so anything can still happen. Stay tuned. Typically, a starting pitcher that moves to Globe Life Park and the hitter-friendly environment loses a few pegs on his fantasy value.

Orioles | O's not a match for Shelby Miller

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 10:20:44 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles inquired about Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller, but they were not a match.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is definitely attractive to fantasy owners next season despite his unfortunate win-loss record with Atlanta in 2015. A move to Baltimore would not have been the ideal landing spot as a heavy hitter's park. Right now it's looking like he'll remain in the National League.

Braves | Two teams out on Shelby Miller

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 10:11:00 -0800

The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks are no longer in the mix for Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller. The Los Angeles Dodgers have talked with the Braves, but it's unclear where they stand on him.

Fantasy Tip: Miller's numbers were solid last year other than his win-loss record. A move out of Atlanta away from a rebuilding organization would be the best for his fantasy value, and he'll likely come at an attractive discount in 2016.

Braves | Shelby Miller on his way out?

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 10:06:03 -0800

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller could be traded away as soon as Tuesday, Dec. 8, as the Braves were making progress on a trade involving Miller Monday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: There were rumors swirling last night that Miller was heading to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Javier Baez, but those turned out to be false. Keep tabs on this situation, though. Miller was extremely unfortunate to be saddled with 17 losses last year despite a 3.02 ERA on the year. He remains a fine young pitcher with strikeout abilities, so if your league mates sour on him next year because of his record in 2015, take advantage of the reduced cost and pounce.

Diamondbacks | Arizona eyeing Atlanta arms

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 14:19:27 -0800

Atlanta Braves SPs Shelby Miller and Julio Teheran are involved in on-going negotiations to be traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran and Miller are generating plenty of interest this offseason, and both pitchers are strong young hurlers who would likely benefit from a relocation, especially in the win column. Miller posted a 3.02 ERA over 33 starts last season, and while Teheran had a 4.04 ERA last year, he registered a 3.03 mark from 2013-2014 through 63 starts. Continue to check back for updates.

Diamondbacks | Snakes want Shelby Miller

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 01:17:10 -0800

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller is being pursued by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who hope to land him in a trade Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Miller's ratios could suffer pitching in the Arizona desert, but his win potential would dramatically increase after failing to get much run support in Atlanta.

Braves | Atlanta keen on adding Jorge Soler

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 10:42:09 -0800

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is of trade interest to the Atlanta Braves, according to sources. While it is believed SP Julio Teheran would not be enough for Chicago to pull the trigger, SP Shelby Miller is a potential trade piece to complete the deal.

Fantasy Tip: Miller is coming off a fantastic season where his lack of run support held him to six wins despite a 3.02 ERA. In fact, Miller went 24 consecutive starts without recording a victory. Expect a solid four-category return from Miller in 2016, especially in a new location. Soler struggled with injuries and inconsistency in 2015, but the raw talent at the dish is obvious, and there is significant upside in the power categories with the outfielder. Stay tuned, but note, Soler's fantasy stock would likely take a hit joining a new team.
