Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller has best outing of '16

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 15:23:41 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller picked up his second win with his new team Monday, June 20, opposite the Philadelphia Phillies. The 25-year-old went 6 2/3 innings, yielding only one run on five hits and a walk. He also struck out five.

Fantasy Tip: Now this was the pitcher the Diamondbacks thought they were getting when they surrendered so much talent to acquire his services over the winter. While this wasn't a spectacular, dominant outing, it was Miller's best effort since joining Arizona, as he was able to register a season high in innings, while also giving up less than two runs for the first time all year. It was also his first start in almost a month, so perhaps the time away did wonders for the former St. Louis Cardinal. Owners might want to think about buying him low in some formats.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller activated

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 07:54:29 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, June 20.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has two rough matchups this week at Citizens Bank Park and Coors Field. After his sluggish start, there is little confidence in using him this week in mixed leagues. You have to start him in NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller set for Monday return

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 12:11:42 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) is scheduled to start against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, June 20.

Fantasy Tip: Everything to this point in 2016 has been a disaster for Miller. He owns a 7.09 ERA and 1.86 WHIP with just a single win and only 30 strikeouts through 45 2/3 innings. His track record suggests better numbers are ahead, but fantasy owners are still likely best off taking a wait-and-see approach with the 25-year-old righty.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller likely for Sunday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 10:10:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) allowed three runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts in six innings for Class A Visalia Tuesday, June 14, and manager Chip Hale said it's likely that Miller will return from the disabled list to start Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has had a rough year in his first season with Arizona, going 1-6 with a 7.09 ERA and 1.86 WHIP, but things were starting to look up before he was put on the DL. The matchup against the Phillies Sunday isn't a bad one, but fantasy owners in deeper leagues should probably take a wait-and-see approach before relying on Miller again.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller rehabbing Tuesday

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 14:15:03 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) will make his second rehab start for Class A Visalia Tuesday, June 14, and he could start return from the disabled list to start Sunday, June 19, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Miller was beginning to turn things around a bit on the bump before he was put on the DL, but his 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 5.9 K/9 don't look good at all. He should've only been stashed in NL-only leagues. Better results could be ahead, but you'll want to take a wait-and-see approach with him in deep mixed leagues before considering him for a roster spot again.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller has another rehab start

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 16:09:10 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) will make another rehab start, which will likely be at High-A Visalia again.

Fantasy Tip: If Miller comes out of that start OK, he should be good to go. He'd be lined up for Sunday, June 19, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Keep Miller stashed in all formats.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller terrific in rehab start

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 05:41:24 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) pitched six shutout innings during a rehab start for Class A Visalia Thursday, June 9. He allowed two hits and struck out 11 batters during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Miller appears to be making good progress and could return to the rotation in the near future. Miller has struggled so far this season with a 1-6 record and a 7.09 ERA, so owners may want to avoid him until he is able to post a few solid starts in a row.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller to rehab Thursday

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 09:55:58 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) will make a rehab start for Class A Visalia Thursday, June 9.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has turned out to be one of the worst offseason acquisitions in recent memory, and the D-backs gave up a whole lot to acquire him. He has a 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and only 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings. Miller had shown some signs of turning things around before his six-run outing before he landed on the DL. He probably won't be this bad all season, but he's purely a matchup play and won't do your fantasy team any favors in the ERA and WHIP departments.

Diamondbacks | Shelby Miller throws side session

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 09:48:34 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller (finger) threw a lengthy side session Wednesday, June 1, and is slated to pitch in an extended spring game Saturday, June 4, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has been a huge bust for the D-backs and fantasy owners this year. His unsightly 7.09 ERA and 1.86 WHIP means he was likely dropped in most mixed leagues already, and for good reason. It probably won't be this bad all year for Miller, but he probably won't be anything more than a matchup play in mixed leagues for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Diamondbacks | Peter O'Brien, others coming up

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:03:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Peter O'Brien and RPs Silvino Bracho and Dominic Leone were recalled from Class AAA Friday, May 27. RP Josh Collmenter (shoulder) was also reinstated from the 15-day disabled list. SPs Shelby Miller (finger) and Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) were placed on the disabled list in corresponding moves.

Fantasy Tip: O'Brien is a big-time power prospect who has transitioned from catcher to the outfield. He hit 26 homers in the minors in 2015 and is a waiver wire target for home runs in the short term in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. His stay could be short, though, with David Peralta returning from the DL soon. Bracho has potential to be a successful late-inning reliever, but he's a watch list guy for now. Collmenter is likely to serve in a long-relief role despite the D-backs having a need for starters at the moment. He can be ignored in fantasy.
