Cardinals | Randal Grichuk sent to minors

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 13:05:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk was optioned to Class AAA Memphis on Saturday, June 18. OF Tommy Pham was recalled from Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk entered this season as a popular high-upside third fantasy outfielder choice after breaking out with a .275 average, 17 home runs and 47 RBI in 323 at-bats last season. However, he has seen his numbers plummet to .206, eight homers and 27 RBI in 204 at-bats this year and has only five hits in his last 48 at-bats spanning his previous 14 contests. Grichuk should make it back to the bigs once he rediscovers his stroke, but it is safe to drop him in non-keeper/dynasty formats until then.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk riding pine vs. 'Stros

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 14:18:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup against the Houston Astros Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: St. Louis has been playing Stephen Piscotty and Matt Holliday almost every day with Randall Grichuk, Brandon Moss and Jeremy Hazelbaker mixing and matching semi-regular starts in the crowded outfield. It has hindered Grichuk's fantasy value. He has just three runs, two RBI and a .129/.229/.290 slash line in June, and at this point, Grichuk can't be started with confidence.

Cardinals | Two players sitting for St. Louis

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 14:35:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz and OF Randal Grichuk are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Doug Fister Tuesday, June 14. SS Greg Garcia will start at shortstop and is batting eighth. OF Stephen Piscotty will start in center field, while OF Brandon Moss will start in right field and is batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has received limited playing time over the last few weeks and is not a great fantasy option at this point. Moss has been on fire recently with a .464 average, five home runs and nine RBI in June. He should be starting in all daily fantasy leagues and also has value in deeper mixed leagues.

Cardinals | Matt Carpenter out Saturday

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 15:25:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is out of the lineup Saturday, June 11, with OF Randal Grichuk leading off.

Fantasy Tip: This is probably more about the matchup against Francisco Liriano than it is about his finger after "Marp" hit a three-run shot last night. Carpenter is hitting just .188 lifetime off Liriano. On the flip side, Grich is 5-for-11 (.455) lifetime. He has struggled all season and is just 3-for-24 (.125) this month, but it's a solid matchup for the right price in DFS.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk sitting vs. Pittsburgh

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 14:16:25 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 10. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk is 14-for-68 (.206 batting average) with just seven runs, two home runs, seven RBI and an underwhelming .657 OPS. His fantasy value is plummeting. Since Sunday, May 1, Hazelbaker has a .179/.207/.286 slash line over 58 plate appearances and shouldn't be owned outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only setups.

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 15:14:12 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is out of the lineup Saturday, June 4, with OF Brandon Moss hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is an all-or-nothing player with a .218 average and 10 homers. He's a boom-or-bust play in the midrange against Jeff Samardzija.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk not in the lineup

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 08:50:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Wednesday, June 1. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker will start in center field and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hazelbaker has slowed down after his hot start to the season and hit only .176 in May. Owners in daily fantasy leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups and probably should avoid Hazelbaker.

Cardinals | Matt Adams exits with back injury

Thu, 26 May 2016 17:22:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (back) was removed from the game against the Washington Nationals Thursday, May 26, due to stiffness in the middle part of his back. OF Brandon Moss moved from left field to first base, with OF Jeremy Hazelbaker sliding over to left field from center field and OF Randal Grichuk entering the game to play center.

Fantasy Tip: Adams was 12-for-23 (.522) in his last eight games with three doubles, three homers and nine RBI, with his batting average going from .275 to .320 over this stretch. The severity of his injury is not yet known, so check back occasionally for updates on his status.

Cardinals | Jeremy Hazelbaker starting vs. Nats

Thu, 26 May 2016 13:27:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and leading off against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross Thursday, May 26. OF Randal Grichuk is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: After a hot start to the season, Hazelbaker has gone 7-for-43 with a .502 OPS through 45 plate appearances in May. His fantasy value is plummeting, and he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a flier in daily contests Thursday. Grichuk should continue to see the bulk of starts in center field, and while hitting higher than .241 would be a boost, he does have solid counting stats (27 runs, seven home runs, 24 RBI and three stolen bases). Grichuk remains a solid option in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk walks off with win

Tue, 24 May 2016 00:19:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk hit his sixth homer of the season and his first career walk-off blast Monday, May 23, in a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk has gone a long way toward helping solidify the Cardinals outfield, along with Matt Holliday and Stephen Piscotty. His batting average and slugging percentage are way down from last year, but his 23 runs scored (prior to Monday) make Grichuk a solid fantasy option.
