Cardinals | Randall Grichuk hitting second

Fri, 30 May 2014 13:40:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk is hitting second Friday, May 30, against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner. 1B Matt Adams is sitting, and Allen Craig is taking his spot.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk may be a temporary fixture against southpaws; St. Louis needs to jump-start this lineup somehow, and they'll have DH at-bats coming up in the next few weeks. He's a deep-mixed asset to which you can give a trial add. Oscar Taveras doesn't have an everyday spot yet, which, along with the Super Two status, may delay his arrival.

Cardinals | Oscar Taveras to come up soon?

Sun, 18 May 2014 10:28:47 -0700

The St. Louis Cardinals may decide to call up OFs Oscar Taveras or Randal Grichuk from Triple-A Memphis for the first week of June when they go on a seven-game road trip to American League parks where they'll be able to use a designated hitter. Taveras is hitting .297 with a .507 slugging percentage and a team-high 31 RBIs at Memphis. However, stalling Taveras' arbitration clock until mid-June makes sense because Taveras doesn't have any service time in the majors.

Cardinals | Joey Butler recalled

Fri, 09 May 2014 07:41:52 -0700

The St. Louis Cardinals recalled 1B/OF Joey Butler from Triple-A Memphis and optioned OF Randal Grichuk to Memphis.

Fantasy Tip: Butler was hitting .360 with four homers and 20 RBIs at Triple-A. He's a late bloomer at 28 and is worth picking up in NL-only leagues. However, he might not garner enough playing time to be more than a depth pickup. The move suggests Peter Bourjos will start seeing more playing time.

Cardinals | Oscar Taveras pushing for a promotion

Fri, 02 May 2014 12:00:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras is inching closer to earning a promotion to the big leagues after hitting .359 and slugging .641 in his last 10 games with Triple-A Memphis. Taveras' ankle injury is no longer a concern. OF Randal Grichuk's promotion has given Taveras the chance to show that he's capable of playing center field, as well. However, the team won't discredit the play of OF Jon Jay, who is receiving more playing time over OF Peter Bourjos.

Fantasy Tip: As of now, promoting Taveras would be a luxury for the Cardinals. Taveras is very close, and an injury to one of the outfielders currently on roster would likely force their hand. If Taveras is out there in mixed leagues, now would be the time to grab him and get ahead of the game. In case you needed any more reason to ditch Bourjos, you have it.

Cardinals | Peter Bourjos' playing time dwindling

Wed, 30 Apr 2014 11:26:58 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Peter Bourjos is hitless in his last 16 at-bats and has started just once in the last week. OF Randal Grichuk even received the start over Bourjos Tuesday, April 29. General manager John Mozeliak indicated that Grichuk's stay at the major league level could be a short-term thing if he isn't receiving regular playing time.

Fantasy Tip: The team has been struggling as a whole offensively, which has led to Bourjos' increased time on the bench. There's no telling when he'll receive more at-bats, which is why there's no reason to maintain loyalty toward him in mixed leagues.
