Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon expects SS Nick Franklin to "move around" on defense. He can play second base if 2B Robinson Cano is the designated hitter, and he can also play some shortstop, third base and outfield.
Fantasy Tip: Franklin gives the Mariners plenty of options to mix and match. It sounds as if he'll receive consistent playing time because of this, and his positional versatility should make him attractive in deep mixed leagues, too, if he plays every day.

Seattle Mariners SS Nick Franklin is serving as the designated hitter and is hitting sixth in the lineup Wednesday, April 16.
Fantasy Tip: If you already added Franklin, be aware that he's facing Yu Darvish in his first start this year. Regardless, it would seem that Franklin will see consistent playing time while he's up.

The Seattle Mariners placed OF Logan Morrison (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 16, and recalled SS Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Franklin was hitting .395 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 11 games with Tacoma.
Fantasy Tip: The M's haven't gotten much production out of their right spot with Morrison, Michael Saunders and Stefen Romero. Perhaps they give Franklin, who saw some time there this spring, a shot. He's worth picking up in AL leagues because of his power and middle infield eligibility.

The Seattle Mariners recalled 2B/SS Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma. He could see time in the outfield.
Fantasy Tip: Franklin is a good AL-only add, as he has a ton of power for a MI spot.

Seattle Mariners INF Nick Franklin has gotten off to a hot start at Triple-A Tacoma, and that figures to boost his trade appeal. He is 8-for-15 through four games with two homers and five RBI.

Seattle Mariners SS Nick Franklin is 8-for-15 with two home runs and five RBIs in four games for Triple-A Tacoma to start the year, which could boost his trade value.
Fantasy Tip: Franklin obviously isn't of much fantasy use while he's in the minors, but if he's traded and lands some playing time, he should at least be looked at in single-universe formats.

The Seattle Mariners optioned SS Nick Franklin to Triple-A Tacoma Friday, March 28. Franklin will play shortstop there. The Mariners also optioned Ps Lucas Luetge and Blake Beavan.
Fantasy Tip: If you drafted Franklin late in a mixed league in hopes that he'd be traded and come into more playing time, you can now safely cut him.

Seattle Mariners SS Nick Franklin played right field for a few innings Tuesday, March 25, and he said he's been working on the outfield for the last three or four days, doing drills with outfield coach Andy Van Slyke. "This is just me trying to be versatile and I'm trying to play the game," Franklin said. "Some way, some how I want to get on the field, whatever it takes." Franklin knows he's lost the shortstop job to SS Brad Miller at this point, although he hasn't officially been told that.
Fantasy Tip: Franklin's versatility could come in handy for the M's early in the season if Corey Hart (forearm) opens on the DL. However, Franklin is unlikely to spend much time out there, and if he's not playing every day, he's not worth much.

Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon refuses to make a decision on his starting shortstop between SSs Brad Miller and Nick Franklin. "I can't give you that one. By March 31. It could (go right to the end)," McClendon said.
Fantasy Tip: We fully expect Miller to win the starting gig. He's an acceptable MI option if you decide to wait late in mixed-league drafts. Franklin could become valuable if he's dealt, but that's no sure thing.

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (shins) is expected to be out at least until the All-Star break with significant injuries to both of his shins. He could wind up missing the entire season, according to a baseball source. INFs Steve Lombardozzi, Danny Worth, Hernan Perez and Eugenio Suarez have been playing shortstop in spring games, but the team doesn't have a clear replacement on roster. Free-agent SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox) and Seattle Mariners SS Nick Franklin could be options if Detroit decides to look outside the organization.
Fantasy Tip: Terrible news for Iglesias here. Fortunately for fantasy players, he likely was left undrafted in mixed leagues, because he's a defense-first player and isn't heralded for his skills with the bat. Drew seems like a real possibility, so if you could use an upgrade at shortstop and he wasn't drafted in your league, you might want to think about scooping him up.
