Mets | Steven Matz's elbow still tight

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 20:54:58 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) allowed six runs, all in the fifth inning, on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Atlanta Braves Friday, June 24, and he said afterward that he is still dealing with tightness in his elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Matz has struggled a bit recently, and his elbow could certainly be a factor. Stay the course in season-long leagues, but he is a risky DFS play right now.

Mets | A cautious start for Steven Matz Friday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:15:32 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) will have his start against the Atlanta Braves approached cautiously Friday, June 24, according to manager Terry Collins.

Fantasy Tip: Matz has battled injuries since debuting in the majors last season, but when on the hill, he delivers. Through his 18 career starts, Matz owns a 2.58 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 8.9 K/9. View him as a No. 2 hurler for your virtual rotation, but he clearly comes with a little more risk than usual Friday.

Mets | Something wrong with Steven Matz?

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:48:37 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) is not operating the same as earlier in the season, and a scout following the team believes something is wrong. "(Steven) Matz is not right. I don't care what the Mets say," said the scout. "Way too much effort. Cutting off his finish to the plate as if he is protecting something." He experienced some tightness in his elbow in his most recent start Saturday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Matz hasn't won in four starts dating back to May 25, and he is 0-2 with a 4.24 ERA in three starts in the month of June. While he has tailed off a bit, he still has logged 20 strikeouts over 17 innings in June, and remains a top-flight fantasy option in all formats unless that tight elbow turns out to be more problematic.

Mets | Steven Matz bothered by tight elbow

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 06:15:57 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) experienced some elbow tightness during the final inning of his outing versus the Atlanta Braves Saturday, June 18. "Just a little tender, maybe a little fatigue," he said. "Just stuff you go through during the season. ... This is something you pitch through. It was just a little tight. ... It's been off and on. During the season you go through things. ... It's not a concern for me really." Matz allowed two runs on four hits over six innings in a no-decision Saturday, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Matz doesn't seem overly concerned about the possibility of missing his next scheduled start versus the Braves Friday, June 24, but don't be surprised if his next turn is pushed back or skipped. The 25-year-old southpaw is 7-3 with a 2.74 ERA in 12 starts this year and has struck out 73 batters in 72 1/3 innings.

Mets | New York will be cautious with Steven Matz

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:50:59 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz's (elbow) workload will be approached with caution during his start against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, May 20, according to manager Terry Collins.

"We'll be a little conservative, not a heck of a lot, because it hasn't been that long," Collins said. "It was very similar to what Noah (Syndergaard) had when he went to see the doctor, and he came back and was lights out. So I think Steven will be OK."

Fantasy Tip: It's likely best to take a wait-and-see approach with Matz, or at least view him with more risk for his start Friday. Since debuting last season, only injuries have slowed Matz down, and he has a 2.56 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and 8.8 K/9 through his 12 career starts.

Mets | Steven Matz set to face Brewers Friday

Wed, 18 May 2016 14:20:32 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, May 18, and said he should be ready to start against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Matz is a solid fantasy hurler with an impressive 2.56 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 8.8 K/9 through his 12 career starts. However, it isn't out of the question to approach him more cautiously Friday, especially in daily contests.
