Mets | Steven Matz not cleared yet

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:53:25 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz's (lat) lat injury has improved but he still has not been cleared to throw at this point. Matz will try to throw next week.

Fantasy Tip: Matz ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) has not pitched for three weeks but appears to be making some progress. Owners should monitor his progress to see when he will be able to return to the starting rotation.

Mets | Updated timeline for Steven Matz

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 14:09:27 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) could be prohibited from throwing for longer than the initial three-week estimate, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Alderson said Matz will be reexamined by team doctors in three weeks. He could resume throwing at that point, if the muscle has healed.

Fantasy Tip: Matz is worth stashing in the majority of formats, but with the injury and just two major league starts under his belt, there is no guarantee what'll he return. Still, there is upside for a big impact down the stretch. Continue to check back for updates on the promising young lefty.

Mets | Steven Matz won't throw for 3 weeks

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 17:20:35 -0700

Updating a previous story, New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) received a platelet-rich injection Thursday, July 9, and he won't throw for three weeks. Matz was diagnosed with a partial tear of a lat muscle.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets will use either Jonathan Niese ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) or Bartolo Colon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) in Matz's spot Sunday, July 12, but they haven't announced who could replace him for the remainder of the time he'll miss.

New York Mets SP Steven Matz (lat) will miss his start Sunday, July 12, but the injury isn't considered serious.

Fantasy Tip: Either Jonathan Niese ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) or Bartolo Colon ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is expected to slide into Matz's spot in the rotation, thanks to the Mets' off day this week. Matz should be stashed in all leagues, in anticipation of a speedy recovery.

Mets | Steven Matz the real deal

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 09:25:43 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz, who went 7-4 with a 2.19 ERA in 15 games for Class AAA Las Vegas in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this year, has made big strides with the development of his curveball and changeup, according to scouts. A scout who saw Matz recently said: "He's ready to come up and slot himself with the other young guns."

Fantasy Tip: Matz should have already been owned in dynasty and keeper leagues, and he's worth picking up in all other formats now, even in shallow mixed leagues if you have space. He'll make his big league debut Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field, which makes him more palatable as your second pitcher on FantasyScore.

Mets | Steven Matz to start Sunday

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 15:37:52 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz will start against the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, June 28, according to a source. He is slotting into the rotation spot of SP Jon Niese, but the Mets are returning to a six-man rotation for now.

Fantasy Tip: A return to the six-man rotation for the Mets will slightly devalue those in the rotation like Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey and Noah Syndergaard. It's designed to give their youngsters extra rest and also take some of the heavy lifting off of veteran Bartolo Colon. Matz will be facing the Cincinnati Reds Sunday and makes for a risk/reward play on FantasyScore. Add Matz if he's available in traditional leagues, as he can be an immediate boost to your fantasy pitching staff.

Mets | Steven Matz being promoted

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:53:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Steven Matz is being promoted from the minor leagues, a source confirmed.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if another starter is landing on the DL or if the Mets are going back to a six-man rotation. Stay tuned. Matz dominated Class AAA pitching this year and can make an immediate fantasy impact in the rotation. Add him immediately in traditional leagues if you need a pitching boost and consider him an attractive value play early on in FantasyScore. Matz's turn would come up Sunday, when the Mets face the Cincinnati Reds. If Matz is slotted in then, he'd be a risk/reward candidate in his first major league start for daily gamers.

Mets | Steven Matz coming up?

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 11:46:20 -0700

New York Mets SP Steven Matz is being called up from the minors Thursday, June 25, according to sources. However, the Mets aren't confirming the move.

Fantasy Tip: Matz has dominated Class AAA hitters with a 2.19 ERA and 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings over 14 starts for Las Vegas. The Mets have been pondering calling up Matz the past several weeks, and they could go back to a six-man rotation to give the rest of their young pitching staff more rest. The move isn't confirmed, but it seems imminent regardless. Run to your league's waiver wire and grab Matz immediately if he's available. He can make an immediate fantasy impact in tradition leagues and at FantasyScore.
