Braves | No timetable for Manny Banuelos

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:43:32 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos' (elbow) MRI exam revealed a bone spur on the posterior portion of his left elbow, and there is still a chance he will pitch again this season.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos (($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has flashed nice upside in over his five appearances -- four starts -- this season. He is a stash candidate in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, but seasonal owners shouldn't bank on any fantasy production from him in 2015.

Braves | Manny Banuelos could be shut down

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:52:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos' (elbow) elbow injury is not considered serious, but he could be shut down for the season since he had Tommy John surgery a few years ago.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has pitched in five games for the Braves this season but could sit out because of his elbow injury. Owners should avoid Banuelos until more is known about his status.

Braves | Manny Banuelos to DL

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 11:10:13 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos (elbow) was put on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation Tuesday, July 28. The move is retroactive to July 25.

Fantasy Tip: With Banuelos ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) sidelined for at least two weeks, a spot will open up in Atlanta's rotation. However, it's unclear who will fill it, and the Braves may use a spot starter until Banuelos is able to return. Stay tuned.

Braves | Manny Banuelos picks up victory

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 21:48:01 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos allowed one earned run, five hits, three walks and a strikeout over 5 1/3 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday, July 7, to pick up his first career victory.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos ($4,500; or 9.0% of cap) is a solid mid-level FantasyScore option if he continues to stick around, as he has a sparkling 0.82 ERA in two outings.

Braves | Manny Banuelos on track

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 18:27:23 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos (dehydration) is on track to make his next scheduled start Tuesday, July 7, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos was impressive in his major league debut, striking out seven in 5 2/3 scoreless innings. However, he will face a surging Milwaukee team next time out, and he is a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore given his lack of experience.

Braves | Manny Banuelos on an innings limit?

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 17:49:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos (dehydration) is believed to be on an innings limit this year, due to the fact that he returned from Tommy John surgery last season. The limit is estimated to be between 120 and 130 innings and Banuelos has already tossed 88 2/3 innings this season, including his time with Class AAA Gwinnett. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said no shutdown date has been determined.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) could be moved to the bullpen after the All-Star break in an attempt to limit his innings, when SP Williams Perez (foot) is activated from the disabled list. For now, he will remain in the rotation and will face the lowly Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday, July 7.

Braves | Manny Banuelos exits due to cramps

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 00:01:31 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos (dehydration) left his start Thursday, July 2, due to cramping and dehydration.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos was brilliant allowing just two hits and fanning seven in 5 2/3 shutout frames. He's a fringe pickup in mixed leagues and might be a target on FantasyScore if he's up for another start.

Braves | Manny Banuelos expected to start Thursday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:55:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos is expected to be called up from Class AAA Gwinnett in order to make his major league debut and start against the Washington Nationals Thursday, July 2. He'll be facing Nationals SP Max Scherzer. Banuelos, a lefty, was 6-2 with a 2.29 ERA and a .215 opponents' average against in 15 starts for Gwinnett. He struck out 69, walked 38 and allowed just two home runs in 82 2/3 frames. The Braves are expected to limit Banuelos' innings to 120 to 130 this year after he came back from Tommy John surgery last year. He could make just a start or two in place of SP Williams Perez (foot) before he returns from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos is worth a look in NL-only and deep mixed leagues, but don't spend too much of your FAAB money on him since his stay in the majors could be short. At FantasyScore, it'd be unwise to use him right off the bat against the Nationals Thursday.

Braves | Mike Minor to see specialist

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 11:06:10 -0800

Atlanta Braves SP Mike Minor (shoulder) will be shut down indefinitely and will visit with a specialist in the next few days, according president of baseball operations John Hart. The team is taking a proactive approach, and they're hoping it's not a season-ending injury. Hart also said Minor might have another MRI exam on his shoulder. SPs Eric Stults, Wandy Rodriguez, Mike Foltynewicz and Manny Banuelos are competing for the fifth rotation spot, but if Minor isn't ready to start the season, the Braves could go with two of those pitchers in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves are definitely hoping this injury is minor. But after Minor's frustrating 2014 season in which he dealt with plenty of shoulder woes, this can't be a good sign early in spring. Minor was considered a sleeper candidate before this news after being just a year removed from a 13-9 season in which he posted an ERA of 3.21 and a K/9 of 8.0 in 32 starts. Minor might still be worth a late-round stab in mixed leagues, but definitely keep an eye on the results of his shoulder tests.
