Mets | Jenrry Mejia unavailable

Wed, 20 Aug 2014 17:49:50 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (back) was unavailable Wednesday, Aug. 20, against the Oakland Athletics due to a back injury.

Fantasy Tip: With Mejia unavailable, Jeurys Familia picked up a five-out save, his fourth save of the season. If Mejia is forced to miss some time, Familia would likely take over ninth-inning duties.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia with a day off

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 13:12:14 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (hernia) had the day off Monday, Aug. 11, so RP Jeurys Familia handled the final four outs of the game for the save over the Philadelphia Phillies. Familia allowed an RBI double in the ninth inning before closing out the game. It was his third save of the year and fourth of his career.

Fantasy Tip: With Mejia trying to finish off the final two months of the season while pitching through a hernia, days like this for Familia could become more frequent. We've been telling you to add Familia in leagues where he's still available. At this point, it might be too late.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia hopes to put off surgery

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 08:32:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (hernia), who blew the save against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, Aug. 10, is hoping to delay surgery on his hernia until after the season. He has known about the issue for weeks, but it didn't become public until after his blown save. Mejia is taking medication to manage the pain. He's given up at least two hits in each of his last four outings, including two losses.

Fantasy Tip: Mejia is treading on shaky ground, and if you're looking for saves and still haven't picked up Jeurys Familia, then you're not doing yourself a favor. The Mets could easily decide to shut Mejia down if he continues to show signs of hitting a wall.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia still dealing with tightness

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 22:53:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (calf) was able to come on during a save opportunity Friday, Aug. 8, against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he said his muscle was a non-issue, although he could still feel the tightness. "It's the same - just tight," Mejia said. "It doesn't matter."

Fantasy Tip: It appears Mejia will pitch through the injury, so fantasy owners can relax somewhat. He posted his 17th save of the season, although he did allow a run and two hits before closing the deal.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia says he's fine

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 14:33:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (calf) said he had tightness in his right calf Thursday, Aug. 7, but said he'll be good to go. Manager Terry Collins wanted to be cautious with Mejia.

Fantasy Tip: Mejia should be fine, but this is something worth watching. We wouldn't be surprised if the Mets hold him out tomorrow as a precaution. Jeurys Familia would be next in line to close out games in the ninth inning if Mejia's calf injury worsens.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia has calf issue

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 14:09:59 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (calf) is dealing with a calf issue.

Fantasy Tip: You wouldn't have known it by his numbers today. Mejia went an inning and struck out two and allowed two hits, but the injury kept him from going another inning in an extra-inning affair. The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, but if you own Mejia or are looking for saves, run and pick up Jeurys Familia right now.

Mets | Jenrry Mejia dealing with injury

Mon, 04 Aug 2014 14:18:47 -0700

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (back) said he was dealing with tightness in his left side/back during his outing against the San Francisco Giants Monday, Aug. 4, in which he allowed the go-ahead run. However, he said it wasn't a factor in his performance and said he dealt with a similar issue a month ago and was fine after going unused for a few days.

Fantasy Tip: Mejia's injury doesn't sound serious, but the Mets will likely want to rest him for at least a day or two so that it doesn't worsen. If that happens, Jeurys Familia is next in line to pitch the ninth inning in save situations.
