Yankees | Rough outing for Aroldis Chapman

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 14:37:22 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman served up a back-to-back solo homers in the ninth inning against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, June 18, but recovered just in time to preserve a 7-6 victory and notch his 13th save.

Fantasy Tip: The home runs by Eduardo Escobar and Kurt Suzuki are the first surrendered this season by Chapman, who hasn't been dominant self lately. He has allowed at least one run and two baserunners in four of his eight appearances this month while watching his ERA soar from 1.93 to 3.18 over that span. Chapman's job status isn't in question, so owners should feel free to ride this stretch out for now.

Cubs | Yanks relievers could interest Cubs

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 18:29:02 -0700

The Chicago Cubs have expressed interest in trading for New York Yankees RPs Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Hector Rondon is currently serving as the Cubs' closer but he has blown his last two save opportunities and trading for Chapman, Miller or both relievers would considerably strengthen the Chicago bullpen. Chapman has recorded 11 saves in 15 appearances this season, while posting a 1.93 ERA with 21 strikeouts and just three walks in 14 innings. Miller is 3-0 with a 1.30 ERA and seven saves in 27 appearances, with three walks and 51 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman works after all

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 20:52:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect nine-pitch ninth inning Monday, June 6, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for his 10th save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Originally, Chapman wasn't expected to be available, but he was called upon for ninth-inning duties with a 5-2 lead and save situation. He remains an elite fantasy closer across all formats.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman resting vs. Angels

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 14:32:42 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman will not pitch against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Monday, June 6, and RP Andrew Miller will probably receive the chance to convert a save, if needed, according to manager Joe Girardi. It is a routine night off to rest for Chapman.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman is an elite closer with a 2.25 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 13.5 K/9, and he has nine saves already after missing the start of the season. Miller is also plenty valuable because he pitches in high-leverage situations and has returned nice fantasy numbers: two wins, six saves, a 1.14 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and a 16.0 K/9. Those numbers play in the majority of fantasy leagues, if not all.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman blows first save

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 16:17:55 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman blew his first save of the season, allowing an unearned run on two hits while recording the final two outs of the eighth inning against the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman inherited a mess from Dellin Betances after a rain delay, so it wasn't exactly a normal save situation. Chapman has been solid since returning from suspension, and he should remain one of the top fantasy closers the rest of the way.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman logs second save

Sat, 14 May 2016 18:26:29 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save in as many chances in a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman has five strikeouts in three innings since returning, and he should make up for the time he lost serving his suspension in short order.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman makes debut

Mon, 09 May 2016 23:46:24 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman allowed one earned run and two hits with two strikeouts in an inning of work Monday, May 9, against the Kansas City Royals in his regular season debut.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman was working in a non-save situation which is never a good spot for closers. It was a good spot to knock off the rust, and he is going to be a must-start fantasy option across all formats sooner rather than later.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman to pitch Monday

Mon, 09 May 2016 13:41:35 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman could be used in the ninth inning regardless of the score against the Kansas City Royals Monday, May 9, according to manager Joe Girardi. Chapman is returning from his suspension Monday, and SP Ivan Nova is on a 75 pitch count, which means the Yankees will need to use their bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: This is just another reminder that you need to get Chapman back into all of your starting lineups if you haven't already done so. Andrew Miller's fantasy stock takes a hit, but he's still useful in all seasonal leagues because of his strikeout abilities.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman returning Monday

Mon, 09 May 2016 10:04:46 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman returns to the Yankees Monday, May 9, after serving a 29-game suspension after a domestic violence incident in the offseason. His average fastball velocity is 99.4 mph since the start of last year, and he threw 452 pitches of at least 100 mph in 2015. No other player threw more than 143 pitches that reached triple digits.

Fantasy Tip: Return the flamethrower to all of your starting lineups. Andrew Miller, who had six saves in Chapman's absence, will see his fantasy value drop without consistent save chances. However, because of Miller's 15.4 strikeouts per nine innings and 0.00 ERA, he'll remain relevant everywhere, especially in leagues that reward holds.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman set to return soon

Tue, 03 May 2016 17:48:24 -0700

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman is expected to make two more appearances in the Gulf Coast League before Monday, May 9, when his 30-game suspension is set to expire. Manager Joe Girardi said Chapman would get the call, should the Yankees enter the ninth inning with a lead on that night.

Fantasy Tip: This is all very positive news for his fantasy owners, as it looks like Chapman will get to close right away, rather than wait a period of time to be eased back in. While the Yankees have struggled thus far through the season's first month, Chapman should still be one of the best closers to own in the league.
