Yankees | Aroldis Chapman won't face charges

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 10:57:20 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman will not be charged after he was accused of firing shots in his Davie, Fla., home during a domestic dispute with his girlfriend Oct. 30.

Fantasy Tip: This doesn't make him exempt from a potential suspension, but it is favorable. Chapman is a top-three reliever if he escapes a lengthy ban.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman files for arbitration

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 11:38:53 -0800

New York Yankees CL Aroldis Chapman has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking $13.1 million next season while the team countered with a $9 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman is one of the top closers in the game, although he is likely to face a suspension at the beginning of the season for domestic abuse allegations. Andrew Miller, who served as the Yankees' ninth-inning man last year, would probably step into the closer's role if Chapman misses time and he is worth owning in all fantasy formats.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman has manager's nod

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 15:21:08 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman will enter spring training as the closer, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman is an elite closer, but a potential suspension also looms over his head, so it isn't all aces for him at this stage. Stay tuned for updates on the details of his suspension. Andrew Miller is currently the big loser in the bullpen, but he should still grab the odd save and win and is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman suspension update

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 11:14:08 -0800

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman is likely to receive a suspension in the 10-25 game range, in the opinion of the New York Post's Joel Sherman.

Fantasy Tip: The ban will likely keep Chapman out of the closer role to start the season, and given how well Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances pitched as a one-two punch last year, Chapman could fail to work his way into ninth-inning duty. Stay tuned for more updates, but as it stands, Chapman projects to land in enough high-leverage situations to be a viable option in the majority of seasonal leagues. He has the potential to chip in the odd win and save to go along with elite ratios and a high K/9 mark.

Yankees | Closer role wide open for Yankees

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 11:04:33 -0800

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller was told by general manager Brian Cashman the organization plans to keep Miller, RP Aroldis Chapman and RP Dellin Betances, and the closer role will be determined at a later date.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman faces a likely suspension to start the season, so he is likely out of the closer competition initially, and until there is an official announcement of who will pitch in the ninth inning it is difficult to project their respective fantasy values firmly. All three will return exceptional ratios with plenty of tallies in the strikeout column, so with the potential for saves added to the mix, there is a lot to like about all three after the top-tier closers come off the board. Stay tuned for additional updates.

Yankees | New York open to dealing Andrew Miller?

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 14:31:13 -0800

New York Yankees RPs Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman and Dellin Betances are expected to form a "three-headed monster" out of the bullpen, according to general manager Brian Cashman. However, Cashman noted the organization is open to trading Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman has a potential suspension looming, so there will likely be one fewer "head" in the mix to open the season, and exactly how the usage is split up will significantly impact the value of each reliever. Until the ninth-inning arm is officially announced, it is difficult to project value for each. However, as it stands, the upside of saves along with their expected low ratios and high strikeout totals makes Miller, Chapman and Betances viable grabs after the elite closers are taken in drafts.

Reds | Cincinnati adds prospects in Chapman deal

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 13:41:50 -0800

Updating a previous report, the Cincinnati Reds acquired RP Caleb Cotham, SP Rookie Davis, 3B Eric Jagielo and 2B Tony Renda from the New York Yankees in exchange for RP Aroldis Chapman Monday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: J.J. Hoover has five saves during his career and posted a 2.94 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 7.3 K/9 last season, and he stands as the current favorite to win the closer role for 2016. Tony Cingrani is a potential wildcard, and it isn't out of the question that someone else will emerge leading into the season. The prospects acquired by Cincinnati don't project to make a fantasy impact next year.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman ban expected by Yankees

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 13:23:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, the New York Yankees anticipate newly acquired RP Aroldis Chapman to deal with some kind of suspension for his domestic abuse allegations.

Fantasy Tip: How Chapman is planned to be deployed out of a bullpen already featuring Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances is critical to his fantasy value entering the 2016 season, especially with a potential suspension looming. Continue to check back for updates.

Yankees | Aroldis Chapman acquired by the Yankees

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 13:19:22 -0800

The New York Yankees acquired RP Aroldis Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds Monday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for more details surrounding the trade, as the Yankees already had one of the best one-two punches from the bullpen in the league with Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. Until it is certain who will pitch the ninth inning, Chapman's fantasy value is in flux, and the same goes for Miller and Betances. Another thing hanging over Chapman's value is the possibility of a suspension for his role in allegations regarding a domestic violence incident.

Nationals | Nats backing off Aroldis Chapman

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 09:06:17 -0800

The Washington Nationals will not pursue a trade for Cincinnati Reds RP Aroldis Chapman while his domestic violence case is pending, according to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo. "It's something that we're not going to continue to go after until we find out how things happened. It's something that we don't want to get into ... because of the allegations against him," Rizzo said.

Fantasy Tip: Based on Major League Baseball's new policy, Chapman could face some sort of suspension next year depending on the outcome of the investigation. This is a fluid situation, so stay tuned. Regardless of where Chapman is pitching in 2016, he'll be an elite fantasy closing option, but his price may come down a bit if he's suspended at all.
