Rangers | Jurickson Profar promotion coming?

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:40:50 -0700

Texas Rangers 2B/SS Jurickson Profar played second base for Class AAA Round Rock Tuesday, May 17, which could mean he is promoted to Texas to play the keystone during 2B Rougned Odor's pending eight-game suspension, in the opinion for FoxSports.com's Jon Morosi.

Fantasy Tip: Profar has 23 runs, five home runs, 21 RBI, four stolen bases and a .271/.348/.417 slash line through 162 plate appearances with Round Rock this season, and he was once as highly regarded as any prospect in baseball before injuries derailed his ascent to stardom. Profar projects to have fleeting value in deep mixed and AL-only formats, if he is indeed recalled to fill in for Odor.

Rangers | Three Rangers sent down

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 09:44:01 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo, OF Nomar Mazara and 2B Jurickson Profar were all optioned to minor league camp Monday, March 21.

Fantasy Tip: All three could have significant roles on the team by season's end. Mazara is a notable prospect that could easily make an impact in left field with Josh Hamilton already hurt and if Ian Desmond doesn't pan out in left. Gallo's power is elite, and he made strides this spring with his plate patience. Profar's shoulder concerns have put him off the fantasy radar the last two years, but he's one to watch if he falls into playing time, too.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar returns to action

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 17:38:25 -0800

Texas Rangers INF Jurickson Profar (shoulder) went 1-for-2 with a single, walk and run scored in a Cactus League game versus the Kansas City Royals Thursday, March 3.

Fantasy Tip: Profar started a game at shortstop for the first time since November 2013 and had no issues with his throws. He has been sidelined for the better part of the last two seasons due to shoulder issues and is expected to begin the season in the minors. Profar should continue to be monitored in AL-only and deep mixed fantasy formats, along with keeper and dynasty leagues.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar back with a bang

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 14:17:22 -0800

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar (shoulder) hit a home run off SP Cole Hamels in the first pitch of his first at-bat in an intrasquad game Monday, Feb. 29, and he also had two impressive plays in his first appearance at shortstop in more than two years. Profar is expected to work out at shortstop all spring, but the Rangers don't expect him to open the year on the major league roster.

Fantasy Tip: More time in the minors this year to start the season means you'll need to show patience with Profar in 2016. It's a buy-low opportunity with him this year if you have room to stash him in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar continues to progress

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 14:28:47 -0800

Texas Rangers SS Jurickson Profar (shoulder) made relay and cutoff throws Wednesday, Feb. 24. He had been limited to throwing to bases since arriving at training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Profar's fantasy value is still tied primarily to keeper/dynasty formats, as he doesn't project to crack the roster to start the season. In yearly formats, he is best viewed as a late-round target to stash in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar limited to SS

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 19:27:48 -0800

The Texas Rangers want SS Jurickson Profar (shoulder) to focus primarily at shortstop after being sidelined for most of the past two years.

Fantasy Tip: Profar is likely to see most of his time at the designated hitter spot to start, while slowly working his way back into the field. With Prince Fielder at DH, Elvis Andrus at shortstop, and Rougned Odor at second base, Profar is blocked from an everyday job right now anyway. Use him only as a reserve in AL-only fantasy leagues to start.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar arrives at camp early

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 15:32:08 -0800

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar (shoulder) reported to camp early and has been throwing to bases without issue. He is expected to increase his throwing repetitions at his position and participate in drills as his monitored workload permits.

Fantasy Tip: At best, Profar is nothing more than a stash candidate in cavernous mixed or AL-only leagues entering the season. He isn't on the roster bubble and will begin the season in the minors, after all. His fantasy value is tied to keeper/dynasty formats more than anything.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar taking it slow

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 09:43:22 -0800

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar (shoulder) is unlikely to make the opening day roster, as the Rangers care more about his long-term health. He won't be competing for a spot on the roster, but rather trying to play in competitive spring games again. Scouts saw enough action in Profar's bat in the Arizona Fall League, but the question remains about his throwing. Profar is likely to play much more shortstop than second base this spring, because the belief is the throwing angle from shortstop is less stressful on his shoulder. In the meantime, 2B Hanser Alberto will be given a chance to win a utility spot.

Fantasy Tip: Profar hasn't had a major league at-bat since 2013, so expecting him to put up big numbers this year would be foolish. He's a better bet to make an impact in the second half, but even then it's hard to predict much use from him by fantasy owners until next season.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar ready for spring training

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 14:30:34 -0800

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar (shoulder) said he will be at full strength for the first full-team workout of spring training Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Fantasy Tip: With Elvis Andrus and Rougned Odor ahead of him up the middle, there is a good chance Profar fails to crack the roster for opening day. Profar is nothing more than a stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only redraft leagues, and his real value and intrigue still remains in keeper/dynasty formats.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar avoids arbitration

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 10:50:41 -0800

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar avoided arbitration by signing a one-year, $605,000 contract Thursday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Profar seems to be blocked right now unless he lands a spot in the outfield. He's still worth consideration for a late-round flyer and will have AL-only value.
