Orioles | Yovani Gallardo to DL

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:50:34 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo (shoulder, biceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 23, with right shoulder biceps tendonitis. RP Brian Matusz (back, ribs) was activated from the disabled list. RP Vance Worley could be stretched out to start when Gallardo's turn comes around.

Fantasy Tip: Matusz has fringe mixed league value for ratios. Worley would be an AL-only option if they insert him into the rotation. For Gallardo owners, it could be a two-to-four-week absence depending on how the shoulder responds to rest and rehab. Stash him if you have the space.

Orioles | Vance Worley likely to start Saturday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 14:34:58 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Vance Worley appears likely to make the start against the Kansas City Royals Saturday, April 23, but his status depends on if he's used out of the bullpen in the next two nights.

Fantasy Tip: Worley has a 5.06 ERA in two starts over 10 2/3 innings and has allowed two home runs for the O's. He's strictly an AL-only option in deeper formats while he's starting. Make sure to start all of your Royals against him if he takes the ball this Saturday.

Orioles | Vance Worley starting vs. Rays Sunday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 14:33:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Vance Worley is starting against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Worley has been incredibly inconsistent during his career, and through 81 starts dating back to 2010, he owns a mediocre 3.86 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 6.8 K/9. Perhaps there is appeal in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, but keep your expectations in check because you can't start Worley with confidence.

Orioles | Vance Worley has rotation chance

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 23:09:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Vance Worley will make the exhibition game start Friday, April 1, against the Philadelphia Phillies, manager Buck Showalter said. Worley remains a candidate to start.

Fantasy Tip: If Worley is able to win a rotation spot, he would still only be worth a look in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues and in DFS play when the matchup is favorable.

Orioles | Kevin Gausman won't be rushed back

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 15:08:08 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman (shoulder) won't be rushed back from right shoulder tendinitis, according to manager Buck Showalter, and the Orioles hope he can pitch on April 19. SPs Mike Wright and Tyler Wilson are believed to be the best bets for the fourth and fifth rotation spots, but SP Vance Worley is still in competition this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Gausman had shoulder issues last year, too, so the O's are being cautious with their rising star pitcher. His overall numbers last season don't really properly reflect his K/9 skills as a starter, and he could break out if fully healthy. Grab him as a late-round flier and stash him in deep mixed leagues.

Orioles | More rotation competition for O's

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 11:43:53 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SPs Tyler Wilson, Mike Wright, Odrisamer Despaigne and Vance Worley are rotation candidates after the Orioles have posted a league-high spring ERA of 7.11 so far.

Fantasy Tip: New acquisition Yovani Gallardo has been slow out of the gates and Chris Tillman is dealing with a hip injury. Aside from maybe Kevin Gausman in deep mixed leagues for his upside, none of Baltimore's starters are very appealing to fantasy owners.

Orioles | Several hurlers to battle for No. 5 spot

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 07:42:34 -0800

Baltimore Orioles SPs Tyler Wilson, Mike Wright, Vance Worley and Chris Jones could battle for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation if the team decides to use an in-house candidate for the job.

Fantasy Tip: Baltimore had been rumored to have interest in free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) but they would have to part with their first-round draft pick if they signed him, making it increasingly likely that they will fill the void with someone already inside the organization. All of the current candidates are nothing more than late-round fliers in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Pirates | Francisco Liriano scratched

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 16:11:01 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano (neck) was scratched Saturday, July 18, and SP Vance Worley will start in his place. Liriano was scratched with neck tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Worley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is up against it with his matchup against the Cincinnati Reds. It questionable whether he's stretched out enough to go very deep in the game. Avoid on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Vance Worley headed to bullpen

Fri, 22 May 2015 19:38:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Vance Worley will move to the bullpen as a long reliever to make room for SP Charlie Morton (hip) Monday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: With his move to the bullpen, Worley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) can be written off at FantasyScore for the time being.

Pirates | Charlie Morton set to join Bucs

Fri, 22 May 2015 10:38:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) allowed two runs and four walks while striking out nine in 6 1/3 innings in what was believed to be his final rehab start for Class AAA Indianapolis Tuesday, May 19. He's recovering from hip surgery to fix his labrum in September of last year. Morton is expected to take the rotation spot of SP Vance Worley.

Fantasy Tip: Morton ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) should be added in all deep mixed and AL-only leagues before he's activated from the DL. You should probably take a wait-and-see approach with him at FantasyScore, but he could eventually become a nice matchup play, especially when pitching at home at pitcher-friendly PNC Park.
