Angels | Garrett Richards avoids arbitration

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 15:04:38 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards re-signed a one-year, $6.425 million contract to avoid arbitration Thursday, Jan. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Considering the severity of the knee injury Richards suffered in 2014, his 2015 season shouldn't be viewed too negatively. He checks out as a solid mid-rotation option for your fantasy club and worth a look in the middle rounds of drafts. There is upside for him to return to being a fringe No. 1 starter in all virtual leagues, too.

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 08:12:09 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking a one-year deal worth $7.1 million while the team has countered with a $5.3 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: Richards went 15-12 with a 3.65 ERA in 32 starts last year, with 176 strikeouts in 207 1/3 innings. He makes a solid SP3 in seasonal fantasy baseball leagues.

Angels | Garrett Richards likely to pitch Sunday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 10:09:27 -0700

Confirming a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards is expected to start on short rest against the Texas Rangers Sunday, Oct. 4, unless the team is eliminated from the postseason picture Saturday, Oct. 3. This would only happen if the Angels lose to the Rangers and the Houston Astros win against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has struggled on the road this season, going 4-7 with a 4.59 ERA in 14 starts away from Angel Stadium. However, FantasyScore owners may still want to use him, since he is 3-0 with a 2.18 ERA versus Texas this year.

Angels | Garrett Richards may pitch on short rest

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 05:07:56 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards said he is willing to pitch the final regular season game on three day's rest if the team still has a chance to earn a playoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) leads the team in wins with 15 and likely would be the choice to start a must-win game. He has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his last five games but has walked at least four batters in four of those games. He could be a risky option if he starts the last game because he would not have his regular rest period.

Angels | Garrett Richards almost goes distance

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 20:33:59 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards came within one out of a complete game, allowing two runs and striking out seven in a win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has delivered plenty of quality starts this year, and he is usually a solid, but not elite, option at FantasyScore.

Angels | Garrett Richards shelled

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 19:11:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in five innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Since shutting out the Red Sox July 18, Richards ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has allowed three earned runs or more in six of seven starts. He isn't pitching well enough right now to justify his salary at FantasyScore.

Angels | Garrett Richards whiffs 11 in win

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 22:18:47 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards allowed four earned runs, four hits and three walks while striking out a career-high 11 batters over 7 1/3 innings in a win against the Cleveland Indians Monday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) has posted a 7-2 record with a 2.36 ERA in 10 home starts while he is 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA in 10 road outings. He'll be home again Saturday against Baltimore, so keep rolling with him in FantasyScore as long as he is pitching in the shadow of the Big A.

Angels | Garrett Richards dominates Red Sox

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 06:26:46 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards pitched a two-hitter for his second career shutout Saturday, July 18, against the Boston Red Sox. Richards allowed just three baserunners on the day, and he retired Boston's final 15 hitters in order.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his past seven starts. While Richards' strikeout rate remains considerably down from last season, he's a bargain at this price on FantasyScore.

Angels | Garrett Richards falters

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 01:30:37 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards was tagged for 12 hits in a 7-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, July 9. Richards had previously been 3-0 with a 0.97 ERA in five starts against Seattle.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) still has a 9-6 record this season, and all his splits have been good. Chalk this up to a bad outing and the fact Seattle's bats were due to break out.

Angels | Garrett Richards has owned M's

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 15:59:08 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards is 3-0 with a 0.97 ERA in his last five starts against the Seattle Mariners, who he faces Thursday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: Richards ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has been pretty bad on the road this year, although Safeco Field is more of a pitcher's park. Facing M's ace Felix Hernandez is another con of choosing Richards on FantasyScore tonight, as it might prove tough to pick up the win kickback. However, Richards could find plenty of success against a Mariners team ranked 23rd in OPS (.682) against right-handers this year.
