Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi lit up again

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:46:42 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi was pounded for six runs on eight hits in just four innings of work against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, June 14. The loss drops him to 6-3 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: To put it mildly, June has not been kind to Eovaldi. His numbers over three starts this month: 14 2/3 IP, 26 H (5 HR), 16 ER, 4 BB, 11 K's. Eovaldi has somehow only taken one L during that stretch, but only those in large mixed and AL-only leagues should keep him on roster.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi roughed up in ND

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 22:04:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed five earned runs, 10 hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision Wednesday, June 8, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi is winless over his past two outings, and he has an 8.43 ERA over his past 10 2/3 innings. He remains useful in AL-only fantasy leagues, but those in DFS play and mixed seasonal formats likely want to avoid him until he gets untracked.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi knocked around

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 19:40:45 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed five earned runs, eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision Friday, June 3, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi's string of three straight quality starts was snapped, and he had allowed a total of seven runs over his past five outings (31 innings). Chalk this up as one poor outing and continue to use him in most fantasy formats and DFS.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi evolving as a pitcher

Sat, 28 May 2016 13:37:38 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi may throw the second-fastest fastball in baseball - his four-seamer registers 96.9 miles per hour on average - but one of the keys to his success in 2016 has been his willingness to mix in his secondary pitches. Of the 21 starting pitchers who average 93 mph or greater on their fastballs, Eovaldi is the only one who throws his less than 50 percent of the time.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi, who is scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Rays in Sunday's series finale, has won each of his last four starts while posting a 2.16 ERA. He is averaging 15.6 pitches per inning over that stretch, which is part of the reason why he hasn't worked past the sixth frame in any of his last three outings. Regardless, it appears Eovaldi has turned a corner in his career; he should be considered a strong third starting pitcher in fantasy in most 12-team leagues until further notice.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi has solid outing

Tue, 24 May 2016 20:53:27 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi pitched six scoreless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, May 24, to pick up his fifth win of the season. He allowed two hits during the game, while striking out five batters and walking three.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi has pitched well recently and has allowed only six runs over his last four starts. He is scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Rays in his next start and should be a decent starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi defeats Kansas City

Thu, 12 May 2016 18:51:09 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi (3-2) allowed three runs on eight hits over five innings in a victory over the Kansas City Royals Thursday, May 12, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi has only had three quality starts in eight outings this season, so he should be viewed as a risky play against most opponents. His next scheduled start will come against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday, May 17.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi flirts with no-hitter

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 22:04:02 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi held the Texas Rangers hitless for six innings Monday, April 25. He ended up allowing two hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings in the 98-pitch quality start for his first victory of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi pitched well near his hometown of Alvin, Texas, also the hometown of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. This was his finest outing of the season. He remains a must-start fantasy option in all leagues pitching for a contender and working in front of a decent defense.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi throws fourth-hardest

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:55:06 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi's average fastball is 97.8 mph, which is the fourth-highest average amongst all starting pitchers in the major leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi perennially ranks amongst the hardest throwers in the bigs, but it hasn't yet quite translated into that breakout season many figured the right-hander would have had by now. He did go a career-best 14-3 in 27 starts last season, albeit while registering a 4.20 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. His strikeout rate also is not as effective as it can be, considering his velocity, but he's out to a fine start in that department thus far, with 15 K's in 11 2/3 total innings pitched. There's still some untapped potential here.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi has so-so outing

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 16:59:49 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi allowed six hits and five earned runs in five innings against the Houston Astros Thursday, April 7. He earned the no-decision while also walking none and striking out seven. Eovaldi allowed two home runs in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Eovaldi has been frustrating for fantasy owners because of his shaky control at times. Home runs have also been a problem for the hard-throwing right-hander, but if he can limit his walks like he did today and keep the ball on the ground, good things could be in store. For now he's limited to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he can be attractive in daily formats in cushy matchups.

Yankees | Nathan Eovaldi has good matchup

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:58:27 -0700

New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two starts against the Houston Astros last season. Eovaldi faces the Astros Thursday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: It's a small sample size and doesn't really mean a whole lot. However, if you're looking to pinch some pennies in DFS, it's food for thought.
