Angels | Tyler Skaggs throws Wednesday

Wed, 25 May 2016 19:03:44 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (biceps, neck) threw his third bullpen session Wednesday, May 25, and is scheduled to throw a simulated game Saturday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is recovering from Tommy John surgery and should remain stashed in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues. Given the state of the Angels' rotation, he has a decent chance of earning a starting role once he is healthy enough to return.

Angels | Another setback for Tyler Skaggs?

Tue, 10 May 2016 16:34:37 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (biceps, neck) did not do his strength test Tuesday, May 10, because he was experiencing some tightness in his neck and trapezius area. The Angels didn't want to risk it.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs' recovery from Tommy John has been a slow and arduous process. The Angels are likely just being extremely cautious given the sad state of injury affairs already for their starting pitching. He's already more than a full 18 months removed from elbow construction and showed fine skills before his injury, so he could contribute for fantasy owners as a starter later this year. For now, stash him in deep AL leagues and watch his progress elsewhere.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs starting long toss

Fri, 06 May 2016 15:42:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (biceps) will have a strength test Monday, May 9, and he'll start an "aggressive" long toss program Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: With news that Garrett Richards is likely to have Tommy John surgery, Skaggs, coming off Tommy John of his own, should get a shot at a rotation spot whenever he's ready to return. That'll make him a stash option in AL-only leagues. He was on the upswing before his injury, so keep him monitored in deep mixed affairs.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs shut down for a week

Mon, 02 May 2016 21:43:16 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (biceps) returned to Southern California to have an MRI. He is dealing with biceps tendinitis, and will not throw for a week before being re-evaluated.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs had been dealing with tightness in his shoulder recently, and now this. He is only worth a look in AL fantasy play and deeper mixed formats when healthy.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs suffers setback

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 10:34:56 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (shoulder, elbow) will travel to Los Angeles to get evaluated by the club Monday, May 2, because he has been experiencing tightness in his throwing shoulder recently.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs had been scheduled to make a rehab start Monday, but he hasn't thrown off a mound since doing a bullpen session Wednesday, April 27. Owners in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues should continue to stash him on their rosters and should have a better idea of his timetable to return to action following Monday's exam.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs rehab update

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 18:14:56 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow) will make his next rehab start for Class AAA Salt Lake Monday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs was scratched from a rehab outing earlier this week due to fatigue and has pitched fewer than four innings in each of his appearances. He is recovering from Tommy John surgery and could be worth stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues based on potential, although he appears to be several weeks away from returning.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs fatigued

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:54:03 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow) was scratched from his start with Class AAA with fatigue, according to general manager Billy Eppler. However, Skaggs is expected to make his next start in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and the Halos plan to limit his total innings this year, which makes it unlikely that he'd have a major fantasy impact in 2016. He's been up and down in his major league action, but Skaggs has promising potential and could be worth a stash later this year in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Angels | Los Angeles saving Tyler Skaggs' innings

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 13:41:06 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow) will not be rushed back to the majors because the organization wants to save his innings for September.

"That's all their plan," Skaggs said. "I haven't had any input or anything. They said they want to save my innings for the end of the year, which completely makes sense. It's frustrating for me because I want to pitch more. But it's a good thing that they care about me, care about my future, about my health."

Fantasy Tip: Skaggs is recovering from a 2014 Tommy John surgery, and he likely still has a few weeks remaining in the minors before he'll join the Angels. When healthy, Skaggs is an intriguing hurler with nice pedigree. However, he hasn't been able to translate his talent into results in the majors yet and owns a career 4.72 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 7.1 K/9 over 31 starts. There is upside, but Skaggs is best viewed as a streaming option in the majority of mixed leagues initially.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs set for rehab start

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 16:32:41 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow) is scheduled to throw four innings for Class AAA Salt Lake City on Wednesday, April 20, which will be his third minor league outing of the season. He is "likely" to make at least three more starts in the minors before being considered for the majors.

Fantasy Tip: That puts Skaggs on track to return around the beginning of May, and owners should be tracking his progress when he gets called back up. While he hasn't pitched in the major leagues since July 2014, Skaggs has always been considered a higher-end prospect and will have potential to contribute to fantasy teams in most leagues right away.

Angels | Tyler Skaggs weeks away

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 11:46:23 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tyler Skaggs (elbow), who is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, is roughly three weeks away from being able to start for the Angels.

Fantasy Tip: Now that Andrew Heaney (forearm) has an injury of his own, Skaggs may be able to enter the starting rotation when he's ready next month. Skaggs displayed nice form before his injury and is worth a flier to stash if you have the room in AL-only leagues. Keep an eye on him in deep mixed formats.
