Diamondbacks | Chris Owings expected to start at 2B

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 09:13:17 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Chris Owings is expected to take over the starting second base job this season.

Fantasy Tip: Owings, 24, struggled in his second full season in the majors, hitting only .227 with four home runs and 43 RBI in 515 at-bats in 2015. The D-backs expect more out of him, but he doesn't have much power to speak of and isn't attractive to fantasy owners unless you're digging for a middle infielder with playing time upside in NL-only universes.

Diamondbacks | Howie Kendrick still not an option in AZ

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 07:23:01 -0800

Free-agent 2B Howie Kendrick (Dodgers) is still not an option for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are reluctant to give up their second pick (No. 39) to sign him. The team also thinks 2B Chris Owings will bounce back offensively.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick is still an upper-echelon second baseman wherever he signs after the elite guys are taken in drafts.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed returns to lineup

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 11:46:23 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed will bat eighth against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson Sunday, Sept. 20. INF Chris Owings, who played shortstop Saturday, Sept. 19, will play second base and bat seventh Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is enjoying a solid September at the plate, batting .324 with four doubles, three triples, two home runs and eight RBIs in just 37 at-bats. He makes a solid FantasyScore value play this afternoon.

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 11:41:18 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks INF Chris Owings will bat eighth and play shortstop against San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake Saturday, Sept. 19. SS Nick Ahmed is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owings ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is hitting .222 during the month of September but is just 2-for-17 over the past week. Better middle infield options are available in FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings in two-hole

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:13:16 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Chris Owings is hitting second against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Owings ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) isn't anything special on FantasyScore, and he has only four long balls on the season. However, Heston has come down to earth a bit in the second half and has been more hittable on the road than at home. Consider Owings a sleeper pick tonight with a move up the batting order.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings sitting out

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 10:09:10 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Chris Owings is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Mike Leake Monday, Sept. 7. SS Nick Ahmed will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owings ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) probably will return to the lineup in the near future. Ahmed ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is hitting .333 with one home run and three RBI in the last seven games and could be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed back in lineup

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 11:07:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed will bat eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks Sunday, Sept. 6. INF Chris Owings, who played shortstop Saturday, Sept. 5, will bat seventh and play second base Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is batting just .202 in 94 at-bats since Aug. 1, so he is not a great starting option in FantasyScore. On the other hand, Owings ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is batting .417 over the past week and is worth taking a flier on this afternoon.

Diamondbacks | Aaron Hill remains out of lineup

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 10:03:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks INF Aaron Hill (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Saturday, Sept. 5. INF Brandon Drury will play second base and bat seventh, while INF Chris Owings will bat eighth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Consider Hill ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) to be day-to-day and avoid using him in your lineups. Drury is not yet available in FantasyScore but Owings ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is 10-for-22 (.455) with four RBIs over the last seven days and should be considered as a middle infield value option.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed sitting out

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 14:57:17 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Monday, Aug. 31. 2B Chris Owings will start at shortstop, while 2B Phil Gosselin will start at second base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return soon. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) recently returned from the disabled list and should not be a starting option at this point.

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 12:32:25 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks INF Chris Owings will play second base and bat second against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston Sunday, Aug. 30. INF Aaron Hill is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Owings ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is just 1-for-21 over the past seven days and should be avoided in FantasyScore for now.
