Diamondbacks | Aaron Hill starting at keystone

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:24:29 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is starting at second base and hitting fifth against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brett Anderson Wednesday, July 1. SS Chris Owings is starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Hill ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) isn't a great FantasyScore pick against Anderson, who has the highest ground-ball percentage of any pitcher in the major leagues this year. Hill has only 36 hits in 162 at-bats (.222) with three home runs and 18 RBI on the season. He has no homers and just two RBI against lefties.

Diamondbacks | Aaron Hill batting fifth

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 17:15:32 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is starting at second base and hitting fifth in the order Tuesday, June 23, against the Colorado Rockies. 2B Chris Owings comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hill ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has two multi-hit games in his past five starts, although he has just one double and four singles in that time. Hill is showing patience at the plate, having drawn a walk in four of his past six games. FantasyScore owners can consider Hill for GPP use with the game being played in Colorado.

Nationals | Washington interested in infielders

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 13:24:59 -0700

The Washington Nationals are interested in the Arizona Diamondbacks' middle infield depth, which includes SSs Chris Owings and Cliff Pennington and 2Bs Aaron Hill and Nick Ahmed, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: None of these players carry a ton of fantasy value to begin with, but a move to a better lineup with the Nats could boost their value at least a little bit if they fall into consistent playing time. That's unlikely to happen in D.C., though, as they'd likely be in more of a utility role.

Diamondbacks | Aaron Hill not in lineup

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 12:43:43 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, June 14. 2B Chris Owings is starting at second base and batting fifth, while 3B Jake Lamb is starting at third base and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Hill ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) only has seven hits in his last 51 at-bats and is hitting just .234 on the season. Then again, over the past four weeks, Owings is hitting just .182 and Lamb is hitting a paltry .118. All three players can be avoided in FantasyScore until they show signs of turning things around offensively.

Diamondbacks | Aaron Hill starting Saturday

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 13:20:27 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill is starting at second base and hitting sixth in the order Saturday, June 13, against the San Francisco Giants and RHP Ryan Vogelsong. 2B Nick Ahmed shifts over to shortstop, with SS Chris Owings coming out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hill ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) went 2-for-3 with a walk Friday. Hill is hitting just .231 against right-handed pitching, but he has hit all three of his home runs against righties. FantasyScore owners should be avoiding Hill until he starts stringing some quality games together.

Diamondbacks | Yasmany Tomas not in lineup Sunday

Sun, 24 May 2015 11:55:37 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Yasmany Tomas is not in the starting lineup against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, May 24. INF Aaron Hill will start at third base, with INF Chris Owings starting at second base.

Fantasy Tip: Tomas ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is receiving the day off, despite batting .406 with five RBIs over the last seven days. Hill ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has struggled of late, with three hits in his last 18 at-bats, while Owings ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has been even worse, with only two hits in his last 24 at-bats.

Diamondbacks | No Chris Owings Wednesday

Wed, 20 May 2015 13:25:47 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Chris Owings is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 20. SS Nick Ahmed is starting at the 6 and hitting eighth in the batting order against Miami Marlins SP David Phelps.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitting only .181 (17-for-94) with no home runs and five RBI this year. He's facing a pitcher that has been very strong this year, too, especially against righty sticks. Avoid Ahmed everywhere.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings, A.J. Pollock out Tuesday

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 14:18:30 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Chris Owings and OF A.J. Pollock both are not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Tuesday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Jake Lamb ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is starting at the hot corner, Nick Ahmed ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is at the 6, and Aaron Hill ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is starting at second base. Third base and second base may be a revolving door early this season for the D-backs. None of the trio of options previously mentioned should be considered strong plays at FantasyScore Tuesday.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings will start at keystone

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 14:59:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Chris Owings will be the starting second basemen to start the season, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Take a wait-and-see approach with Owings ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in the majority of formats. He boasts a nice power-speed combo, but with just 393 plate appearances in the majors the jury is still out on whether he can consistently hit major league pitching. He should be owned in all NL-only leagues, though, and there is upside for FantasyScore contests in favorable matchups. He may also have a short leash with Aaron Hill ($4,000, 8.0%) fighting for his job.

Diamondbacks | Chris Owings taking hacks

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 14:14:01 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Chris Owings (shoulder) took his first swings of the spring Friday, March 6, after undergoing surgery to fix the labrum in his left shoulder last October. He took regular batting practice later in the day Friday and didn't have any issues with his shoulder. The Diamondbacks see Owings as a starter at either second base or shortstop in 2015 depending on the rest of the infield. He's expected to make his spring debut in mid-March, and he'll take batting practice again Saturday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Owings has some intriguing pop at the shortstop position, but his fantasy value will depend on if he's fully healthy and if he's seeing regular playing time. He'll probably go undrafted in most mixed leagues, but he could come into play as a valuable middle infielder off the waiver wire during the year. Owings should be owned in all NL-only leagues.
