The Atlanta Braves reportedly reached out to former MLB 1B Jim Thome to fill their hitting coach vacancy but he wasn't interested in the job. Former Philadelphia Phillies hitting coach Milt Thompson and former Washington Nationals hitting coach Rick Eckstein are expected to be candidates for the position.

The entire coaching staff of the Washington Nationals will return for the 2011 season, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson. Bullpen coach Jim Lett, bench coach John McLaren and first-base coach Dan Radison will return for a second season, with third-base coach Pat Listach and hitting coach Rick Eckstein returning for a third season. Pitching coach Steve McCatty, who joined the staff in June 2009, is coming back for his second full season. It was announced that manager Jim Riggleman would return for a second full year last month.

The Washington Nationals are expected to name Jim Riggleman's coaching staff by early this week, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. Tim Foli, Jim Lett, John McLaren and Dan Radison are candidates to join the staff. It is uncertain if anyone from last year's staff will be retained, which included bench coach Pat Corrales, third base coach Pat Listach, hitting coach Rick Eckstein and pitching coach Steve McCatty. Bullpen coach Randy Knorr has already accepted a job as manager of Double-A Harrisburg.

The Sports Network reports Washington Nationals hitting coach Rick Eckstein was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount Wednesday, Aug. 12, for inappropriate actions during the team's game Tuesday, Aug. 11. He was ejected from the game for arguing with third base umpire Larry Vanover.
