Padres | Wil Myers to undergo surgery

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 17:33:19 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) will undergo surgery Thursday, June 18, to remove a bone spur in his left wrist. Myers will likely require eight weeks of recovery time before he can resume baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) got off to a great start this season, but if it's going to be two months before he can start working his back into the lineup, season-long owners can move on. Myers should be stashed on the disabled list if possible, but if room can't be spared, Myers can be sent packing.

Padres | Wil Myers placed on DL

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 15:44:51 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, June 15, because of left wrist tendinitis.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) dealt with this injury earlier this season, so he likely will miss several weeks. Will Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Melvin Upton Jr. ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) likely will receive some starts in center field while Myers is sidelined. Venable likely has more value of the two and could be an option if he is available in deeper leagues.

Padres | Yonder Alonso given day off

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 15:17:41 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw Friday, June 12. OF Wil Myers is hitting leadoff and playing first base, while OF Melvin Upton Jr. receives the start in center field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) was hitless in five at-bats in his return from the DL and should be ignored again against Kershaw as he gets his timing back in order. Upton ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hitless in five at-bats on the season and should be avoided everywhere against Kershaw.

Padres | Wil Myers hitless in return

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 15:26:17 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers went 0-for-5 with a walk in his first game Thursday, June 11, since being activated from the disabled list. Myers said he'll have his left wrist taped for at least another four weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) hadn't played since May 10. The long layoff could mean he'll be slow to return and make an impact from the DL, so stay patient on FantasyScore and in traditional leagues. Before his injury, he was hitting .291 (39-for-134) with five home runs and 19 RBI out of the leadoff spot.

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, June 11. He's leading off against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran.

Fantasy Tip: Give Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) a day or two to kick the rust off instead of dropping nearly 10% of your cap on FantasyScore.

Padres | Wil Myers close to returning

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 17:09:01 -0700

The San Diego Padres could activate OF Wil Myers (wrist) from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, June 11, before the game against the Atlanta Braves. He has been sidelined with tendinitis in his left wrist since May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) performed well during his rehab assignment with Class AAA El Paso, hitting .333 with one home run and two stolen bases in three games. He is expected to return to the leadoff spot once he rejoins the lineup, with Will Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) going back to serving as the club's fourth outfielder.

Padres | Wil Myers with two hits in rehab game

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 15:35:48 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) was 2-for-5 with Class AAA El Paso Tuesday, June 9, and he is 5-for-15 in three rehab games. The team will discuss if he's ready to return to the major leagues tonight.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is very close to being activated from the DL. When he's back, Will Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will lose most of the short-term value he had gained for FantasyScore players and will go back to being a fourth outfielder for the Friars. Myers had been extremely valuable hitting leadoff for SD before the injury, and there's no reason to believe that won't continue as long as he's healthy.

Padres | Wil Myers takes batting practice

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 14:38:15 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) took around 75 swings during batting practice Friday, June 5, and did not report any pain in his wrist. Myers will begin a rehab assignment with Class AAA El Paso Sunday, June 7, according to manager Bud Black.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is working his way back from injury and likely will play in a few rehab games before he returns to the Padres lineup. Will Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will play in center field until Myers returns and could be an option on FantasyScore against certain matchups.

Padres | Wil Myers takes batting practice

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 15:44:16 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (wrist) took batting practice Wednesday, June 3. It was the first time Myers hit live pitching since he injured his left wrist Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Myers ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) last played Sunday, May 10, so while this is a positive first step, there is still a ways to go. Will Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will continue to receive the majority of starts in center field, and he is a worthy value/matchup play in FantasyScore contests. Continue to check back for updates on Myers' progress. He was off to an excellent start before the injury with 28 runs, five home runs, 19 RBI, three stolen bases and a .291/.340/.493 slash line.
