Phillies | Tommy Joseph remains sidelined

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 17:04:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph (illness) is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Friday, June 24. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard is coming off a two-hit game with a home run in the last game but is still hitting .150 this season. Owners should continue to avoid Howard for the time being.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph scratched

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 09:23:03 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph (illness) was scratched Thursday, June 23, due to illness. 2B Cesar Hernandez was inserted into the lineup hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez is hitting just .224 this month and doesn't have much consideration against Ricky Nolasco.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph halts long skid

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 22:51:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph ended a 1-for-31 slump over his last eight games by going 2-for-5 with a two-run shot off Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey on Tuesday, June 21.

Fantasy Tip: Given how poorly the Phillies' offense has been for most of the season and the fact his manager just recently promoted him over Ryan Howard, Joseph is a poor fantasy first baseman at the moment. In leagues he is catcher-eligible, however, his .238 average, eight homers and 14 RBI in 105 at-bats plays pretty well. In those leagues, he is a near must-start.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph, Cameron Rupp playing

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 08:43:27 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph and C Cameron Rupp are back in the starting lineup versus Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is 6-for-35 (.171) over the last two weeks following a strong start, including just one hit in his last 19 at-bats, while Rupp is 5-for-27 (.185) over the same span. View both players as desperation sources of salary cap relief this afternoon in DFS.

Phillies | Philadelphia resting four players

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 09:12:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph, C Cameron Rupp, 2B Cesar Hernandez and OF Peter Bourjos are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke Saturday, June 18. 2B Andres Blanco will start at second base and is batting third. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth. OF Jimmy Paredes will start in right field and is batting fifth, while C Carlos Ruiz will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco, Howard and Ruiz are all hitting less than .200 over the last seven days and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues. Paredes is performing a little better at the plate over that span, but owners should be able to find better options for their lineups.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph slumping

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 20:15:17 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is hitless in his last 16 at-bats following an 0-for-4 performance versus the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Since June 10, Joseph's average has fallen from .323 to .272 but he's still worthy of lineup consideration in DFS and NL-only formats due to his power potential (seven home runs through 81 at-bats).

Phillies | Tommy Joseph locked in at the plate

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 19:25:39 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in a 9-6 loss to the Washington Nationals Friday, June 10, and he has four home runs and five multi-hit efforts in his last seven games.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph could make a nice sleeper in DFS play, and he could be worth a look in NL-only leagues as continues to earn frequent at-bats.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph set for full-time starts

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 18:33:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph will receive the majority of starts at first base going forward, according to manager Pete Mackanin. "I can't sit Tommy Joseph," Mackanin said. "You can't say enough about Tommy Joseph. He looks like the real deal, and it's great to have him here."

Fantasy Tip: Joseph sits with a .323/.333/.677 slash line, 10 runs, seven home runs and 12 RBI through just 69 plate appearances. He was the key cog in the trade that sent Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants, and Joseph is now set for an everyday gig at first base. Joseph is a speculative add in the majority of seasonal formats at this point and all keeper/dynasty leagues. Ryan Howard is only viable as a depth option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues going forward.

Phillies | Ryan Howard back to the bench

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 11:43:41 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is back on the bench Friday, June 10. 1B Tommy Joseph is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg.

Fantasy Tip: Howard should see occasional starts at first to spell Joseph, but despite nine homers and 20 RBI, his .150/.213/.346 slash line makes him more of a bench player for the foreseeable future. Leave him to NL-only leagues for power. Joseph has impressed in limited at-bats with a power stroke of his own, but he's more of a sleeper pick in daily formats tonight against Strasburg.

Phillies | Ryan Howard starting again

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 09:12:22 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is in the starting lineup again and is hitting fifth against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Wednesday, June 8. 1B Tommy Joseph will start on the bench again.

Fantasy Tip: Howard may have earned himself another start with his ninth homer of the year Tuesday night, but he's still only hitting .153/.217/.353 on the season. Furthermore, he's batting only .188 (3-for-17) with two home runs in his career against Lackey. Howard is a boom-or-bust option in DFS and it's hard to justify keeping him on roster in many mixed leagues.
