Brandon Belt due for long-term extension?

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:09:06 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is viewed as the long-term fit at first base, and general manager Brian Sabean is keen to re-sign him to a long-term contract extension.

Fantasy Tip: Belt has flashed nice fantasy upside is spurts over the past three seasons, but between injuries and his inconsistency, he has left a lot to be desired for the most part. He should be viewed as a fringe No. 1 first baseman in mixed leagues, but don't be heartbroken if someone swoops in and grabs him from your sights in the middle rounds. Through the past three seasons, Belt has averaged just 405 at-bats, 60 runs, 16 home runs and 54 RBI with a respectable .277/.349/.474 slash line, after all.

Giants | Brandon Belt avoids arbitration

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 12:41:55 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt avoided arbitration Wednesday, Feb. 10, by agreeing to a one-year, $6.2 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: Belt's injury concerns -- offseason knee surgery and a concussion that ended his season -- could make him a relative bargain on draft day since he could tease 30 home runs over a full season.

San Francisco Giants 1B/OF Brandon Belt has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking a one-year deal worth $3.3 million while the team has countered with a $2.8 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: Belt hit .280 with 18 home runs and 68 RBIs in 137 games last season. He should be drafted in the middle rounds of NL-only fantasy leagues and the later rounds of mixed leagues.

Giants | Brandon Belt's condition improving

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 16:44:54 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) is reportedly doing well and just had a positive meeting with the concussion doctor.

Fantasy Tip: This is a nice development for the 27-year-old, who missed the final couple weeks of last season due to concussion issues. All signs point to him being healthy by spring training, and he'll most likely ultimately be a solid fantasy option at first base next year. In 2015, Belt hit .280 while recording career highs in home runs (18) and RBI (68).

Giants | Brandon Belt in team's plans

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:40:20 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt could become trade bait if the team were to sign free-agent 1B Chris Davis (Orioles), but beyond that, general manager Bobby Evans said Belt remains firmly in the team's plans. Belt still has some "residue" from a late-season concussion, but doctors told him not to change his normal offseason workouts. Evans is open-minded about trying to reach an extension with Belt.

Fantasy Tip: Barring an unexpected setback this offseason, Belt should be ready to go in spring training next year. He hit .280 with 18 bombs and 68 RBI and could be overlooked as a strong first base candidate once the bigger names come off the board because of his head injury late last season. Take advantage if that's the case.

Giants | Brandon Belt to be fine

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 10:13:36 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) isn't expected to have any lingering effects from the concussion he suffered this year and doctors are encouraged by his progress.

Fantasy Tip: Belt had a career-high 18 home runs in 2015 and can easily reach the 20-homer mark in 2016 if he can remain healthy. Keep an eye on his progress as spring training approaches, but if he's fully healthy, he's not a bad first baseman to build around for your fantasy baseball squad.

Giants | Brandon Belt hasn't been cleared

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 08:57:58 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) has yet to be cleared following his concussion and is expected to be examined by a specialist in the coming days. Belt is expected to be fully healthy for spring training. OF Gregor Blanco (concussion) has been cleared after his late-season concussion.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries derailed what was a career year for Belt in 2015. He hit 18 home runs, drove in 68 runs and hit .280 in 137 games for the Giants. Heading into 2016, assuming he's fully healthy, he should be able to build on those numbers for fantasy owners and should once again come at a modest price for first basemen.

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 17:06:15 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (knee, concussion) will undergo surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus. He will need four weeks to recover.

Fantasy Tip: Belt had already been shut down for the season because of a concussion and he should be dropped in all redraft leagues. He should be completely healthy by the time spring training rolls around.

Giants | Hunter Pence, others shut down

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 16:42:03 -0700

San Francisco Giants OFs Hunter Pence (oblique), Nori Aoki (concussion) and Gregor Blanco (concussion) and 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) have all been shut down for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: With the Giants' postseason chances virtually gone, they'll play it safe and rest their injured stars. You can now safely drop all of them in redraft leagues if you haven't already.

Giants | Brandon Belt to visit specialist

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 20:02:57 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B/OF Brandon Belt (concussion) will fly to Pittsburgh Wednesday, Sept. 23, to visit with a concussion specialist Thursday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds unlikely that Belt ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) will be able to return this season, so FantasyScore players should avoid him.
