San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean said Wednesday, Dec. 4, that the team has "no intention" to move 1B Brandon Belt to another position. "He's not going to play another position other than first base," Sabean said.

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt made some changes to his mechanics recently that have him hitting .438 in August. Hitting coach Hensley Meulens suggested that Belt talk with Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown, another lefty swinger very similar to Belt. Brown has turned his career around this year and explained to Meulens at the All-Star Game that he changed the grip on the bat and saw immediate results. Belt decided to adopt change, and it hasn't taken him long to find his new grip on the bat more comfortable.
Belt has also moved back in the batter's box, too. "The move back in the box, that's a big deal," Meulens said. "You don't see hitters in the front of the box like (he was). He had a couple of swings (July 28 against the Cubs) that he would have been called out because his foot was outside the box. Bochy got to him and said, 'Nobody hits like this. (Moving back) gives you more time to see pitches and more time to make a decision.'" Belt is hitting .438 in his last 10 games with three home runs, three doubles, 11 runs and seven RBIs.
Fantasy Tip: Belt's resurgence should alert fantasy owners that he's not dead, after all. Grab him off the wire if you're looking for a spark. Bruce Bochy is confident enough in Belt's changes that he's playing him against southpaws. More encouraging signs.

San Francisco Giants C/1B Buster Posey will see less time at first base, according to manager Bruce Bochy, at least in part because of 1B Brandon Belt's recent surge at the plate. Posey is 11-for-66 (.167) in his last 20 games. "His swing is fine," Bochy said of Posey.
Fantasy Tip: It sounds like the skipper is conscious of the abuse that Posey endures as a catcher and would like to get him those full days of rest, at least in part for the benefit of his best player's offense. It can't hurt. This could be good news for Belt owners, assuming that the left-handed hitter, and not Brett Pill, will receive more opportunities against southpaws.

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt was named the National League Player of the Week after hitting .440 (11-for-25) with two home runs, five RBIs and eight runs last week. Manager Bruce Bochy has the utmost confidence in him, too, starting him against all left-handed pitchers and hitting him third in the lineup, including Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Fantasy Tip: This was bad timing for Brett Pill, who has been relegated to a bench role thanks to Belt's hot hitting. Don't expect Pill to see much time until Belt cools off. It looks like Pill's time with the team could be coming to an end soon, too.

The San Francisco Giants don't view 1B Brett Pill as an everyday player, and they are convinced he can only play first base, which makes it seem likely that he may not be a part of the team after this season. Pill is out of minor league options and must stay on the 40-man roster this winter or the team will have to waive him and expose him to other clubs.
Fantasy Tip: Pill should only be relied on in deep NL-only leagues since the team isn't convinced he should receive steady playing time. As long as Brandon Belt is around in SF, Pill will have a tough time finding enough PT to make him valuable in mixed leagues.

San Francisco Giants 1B Brett Pill could see more playing time over 1B Brandon Belt, who is struggling at the plate. Manager Bruce Bochy said it would be tough to keep Pill's bat out of the lineup if he continues to swing the bat well.
Fantasy Tip: As long as Belt is on the roster and getting at-bats, it'll be very tough to justify owning Pill on mixed league rosters. Pick him up in NL-only leagues, though.

The San Francisco Giants will promote 1B Brett Pill and OF Roger Kieschnick from Triple-A Fresno Tuesday, July 30. The team hasn't announced what the corresponding moves will be. Kieschnick is hitting .273 with an .836 OPS and 13 home runs in 422 plate appearances.
Fantasy Tip: Kieschnick and Pill are likely depth pieces for the active roster, but it could also signal that the Gigantes are close to dealing Hunter Pence away. Pill could steal some time away from the struggling Brandon Belt at first base.

The San Francisco Giants made an organizational decision before spring training to have 1B Brandon Belt concentrate only on first base and not the outfield. However, C Buster Posey (legs) has needed to play first base rather than squatting behind the dish at catcher, forcing Belt and his bat out of the lineup. Manager Bruce Bochy said he and Belt discussed Sunday, June 30, about Belt doing some outfield work.

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey (legs) said Sunday, June 30, that he has been dealing with "general tightness" in his legs, which is the reason he was starting at first base for the second straight day rather than behind the plate. As such, 1B Brandon Belt was out of the lineup for a second straight game.
