Cubs | Javier Baez batting seventh vs. Reds

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 14:00:59 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez is starting at second base and batting seventh against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani Tuesday, Sept. 1. 2B Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Baez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) posted a .324/.385/.527 slash line with 49 runs, 13 home runs nad 61 RBI over 70 games with Class AAA Iowa this season, and he hit nine home runs during his cup of coffee with the Cubs last year. He owns high-end power for a middle infielder and is worth an immediate add in the majority of seasonal leagues, although don't expect his plus-.300 batting average to accompany him to the majors. FantasyScore players can take a speculative flier on Baez Tuesday, especially given his friendly cap hit. Castro's ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) playing time projects to be on the decline with Baez joining the big club.

Cubs | Starlin Castro not in lineup

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 17:49:41 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is not in the lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos Saturday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Tommy La Stella will replace Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) at second base, but he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Cubs | No Chris Coghlan against San Fran

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:21:51 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Aug. 27. 2B Starlin Castro is starting at second base and batting fifth against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been an excellent contributor of late with 13 runs, four home runs, 11 RBI and a .840 OPS in August. However, he rarely plays against lefties, so make sure to take that in consideration before adding him to your seasonal team. Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) isn't a strong FantasyScore play Thursday against Bumgarner ($9,600, 19.2% of cap), but it is worth noting, Castro is currently riding a respectable 20-for-69 stretch.

Cubs | Starlin Castro hitting in the two-hole

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:59:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Starlin Castro is starting at second base and batting second against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has responded to his benching by going 10-for-28 with two doubles and a home run in his limited opportunities. With Jorge Soler ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) on the disabled list, Castro projects to receive everyday at-bats and play second base while Chirs Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) shifts back to the outfield. Castro makes an excellent budget play at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Cubs | Addison Russell resting Monday

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:40:05 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 24. SS Starlin Castro is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh and 2B Tommy La Stella is at second base and is hitting sixth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is the more acceptable sleeper pick on FantasyScore today, but we wouldn't recommend either for this afternoon's contest against last year's American League Cy Young winner.

Cubs | Starlin Castro draws into the lineup

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:34:50 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Starlin Castro is starting at second base and batting sixth against Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris Wednesday, Aug. 19. OF Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. It is worth noting, though, he should now have second base eligibility in the majority of leagues, and he has a respectable .263/.314/.525 slash line with 10 runs, six home runs, 12 RBI and four stolen bases over his past 25 games. Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) should be dropped in all seasonal formats, but it isn't out of the question to take a flier on him at FantasyScore given his low cap hit.

Cubs | Starlin Castro at 2B again

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 13:50:26 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is hitting seventh and playing second base Saturday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like this might be more than a short-term move. Castro ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a so-so matchup against lefty Jose Quintana, but his bat needs to wake up. His value will increase in traditional leagues when he plays enough games for 2B eligibility. He's worth a shot on FantasyScore tonight.

Cubs | Starlin Castro draws into lineup

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 09:54:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is starting at second base and hitting eighth against Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is receiving a start with the Cubs being able to use the DH in an American League park. He has really struggled offensively this year and has been benched recently as a result. There's not a whole lot of incentive to put him in your daily lineups Friday.

Cubs | Starlin Castro could play some 2B

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 14:50:43 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro could see some starts at second base against left-handed pitchers, according to manager Joe Maddon.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) was benched last weekend, and Addison Russell has shifted over to become the starting shortstop. Even with some at-bats coming at second base, Castro's poor numbers and limited playing time mean he's probably not very useful to owners in mixed leagues anymore.

Cubs | Starlin Castro out again vs. Giants

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 07:50:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: This is the third consecutive game Castro ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has been relegated to the bench. His seasonal value is approaching a career low, and you'll want to upgrade on him in the majority of seasonal leagues. Addison Russell ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been exceptional defensively at shortstop and owns a .290/.338/.435 slash line with 10 runs and seven RBI over his past 19 games.
