Cubs | Starlin Castro returns to lineup

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 16:10:43 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (personal) is back in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP John Lackey Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) does have all five of his home runs in 241 at-bats against right-handed pitchers this year. He's hitting .261 (74-for-283) with 35 RBI and four stolen bases in 2015. Castro is a midrange shortstop play in daily games.

Cubs | Starlin Castro scratched

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 09:05:14 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (personal) was scratched Thursday, June 25, due to the birth of his child. SS Addison Russell slides over to short and up to fifth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Russell's ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) prime spot in the order could make him worthwhile on FantasyScore today. Jonathan Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) slips in at second base and hits ninth, but he's really not a feasible option.

Cubs | Starlin Castro delivers in clutch

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 17:36:16 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro went 2-for-5 with a go-ahead, two-run single in the 10th inning in a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday, June 20.

Fantasy Tip: His average is down a bit, but Castro ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is on pace for a career-high 83 RBI. He is not an every-day starter at FantasyScore, but he is worth considering when he draws solid matchups.

Cubs | Starlin Castro delivers game-winning hit

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 04:35:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro had the game-winning hit for the second night in a row Sunday, June 14, as the Cubs topped the Cincinnati Reds 2-1.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has gone from a shaky shortstop to one with confidence, and part of that is due to manager Joe Maddon and a greatly improved team. With a .268-5-32 line this season, Castro is worth keeping an eye on.

Cubs | Starlin Castro will not start

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 07:25:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup Saturday, June 6. 2B Addison Russell will be the starting shortstop for the game and is batting ninth, while SS Jonathan Herrera will start at second base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup in the next day or two. Russell ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has only three hits in his last six games but could still be an attractive option on FantasyScore. Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting only .204 this season and probably should not be a starting option.

Cubs | Starlin Castro struggling

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 09:03:01 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is playing below replacement level at shortstop, according to FanGraphs.

Fantasy Tip: There is some thought the team could move him to third base, install Kris Bryant in left field, which would open up shortstop for Addison Russell and second base for Javier Baez. Castro really appears to be regressing in the field and at the plate. He's still just 25, and his $4,000 (8.0% of cap) price tag isn't too prohibitive on FantasyScore. However, he needs to pick it up from his .265-4-25 state.

Cubs | Starlin Castro dropped to six-hole

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 12:13:48 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is batting sixth against the Miami Marlins Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has hit a road block over the past 27 games and sports a .211/.256/.266 slash line. More concerning, Castro has just four RBI over his last 16 games since moving to the cleanup spot, so moving down the order to where he had more success makes sense. It is a slight hit to his fantasy stock, but Castro wasn't succeeded in the four-hole, so it shouldn't necessarily be considered a bad thing. FantasyScore players should wait for Castro to catch fire again at the plate before starting him with confidence in contests.

Cubs | Starlin Castro back in cleanup spot

Wed, 13 May 2015 13:20:33 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is batting fourth against the New York Mets Wednesday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has hit fourth just 11 times over three games this season, as he has hit fifth and six the majority of the time. The 25-year-old is has hit just .211 (8-for-38) over the past nine games, but he has eight RBI. Moving into the cleanup spot behind Kris Bryant ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) and Anthony Rizzo ($5,700, 11.4%% of cap) should yield plenty of RBI opportunities with Bryant and Rizzo sporting .417 and .455 on-base percentages, respectively.

Cubs | Starlin Castro being more aggressive

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 08:57:34 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro has improved his defense so far in 2015, and he has just one error to begin the season. SP Jake Arrieta sees a new aggressiveness about Castro on defense, and Castro credits manager Joe Maddon for encouraging him to be better on defense. "How about Castro at shortstop?" Maddon asked rhetorically after Monday's game. "Right now I don't know if you guys have seen him play a better shortstop. I mean I'm really impressed with what he's doing out there."

Fantasy Tip: While Castro's ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) defense doesn't concern fantasy owners at all, the new aggressiveness and confidence with which he's playing could easily translate over to the offensive side, too. He's off to a fine start, going 16-for-49 (.327) with a home run and six RBI.

Cubs | Starlin Castro likes facing A.J. Burnett

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 11:41:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is 13-for-29 (.448) with three extra-base hits in his career against Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) makes for a strong FantasyScore play today against Burnett, if the weather holds up. Check back closer to game time to make sure rain won't play a factor in this one before clicking on Castro.
