Yankees | Starlin Castro receives day off

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 09:00:12 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco Saturday, June 18. 2B Rob Refsnyder will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Refsnyder is hitting .438 with two RBI over the last seven days and will continue to see solid playing time. He should be a decent starting option in most daily fantasy leagues.

Yankees | Three regulars sitting for Yanks

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 14:21:59 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (rest), C Brian McCann (rest) and SS Didi Gregorius (rest) are not in the lineup Thursday, June 2, against Detroit Tigers SP Matt Boyd. OF Aaron Hicks is getting a start in center field and batting ninth, C Austin Romine is behind the plate and hitting seventh, while 2B Rob Refsnyder is entering the lineup in the No. 8 hole with 2B Starlin Castro taking over shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: It's not much of a surprise to see the Yankees sitting some of their regulars, as this was supposed to be a day off for the club. Instead, they're making up a game that was rained out in April. Either way, none of the replacements inserted into the lineup for tonight's contest deserve any consideration for daily fantasy games. The three starters sitting should be back Friday.

Yankees | Starlin Castro takes a seat

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 14:41:07 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 1. 2B Rob Refsnyder is starting at the keystone and is batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez.

Fantasy Tip: After a strong start in April, Castro tanked in May (.200-4-9) to drop his season average to .245. Benching him if you have other options right now might be the best approach. Refsnyder makes decent contact and uses all fields, but unless he finds an avenue to regular playing time, he's strictly a depth option in AL-only leagues.

Rays | Jake Odorizzi takes hard-luck loss

Sun, 29 May 2016 13:37:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi gave up only one hit and struck out six over seven innings Sunday, May 29, against the New York Yankees, but that one hit was a two-run shot off the bat of SS Starlin Castro, resulting in a 2-1 setback.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi did not allow a baserunner through six frames but ran into trouble in the seventh when he issued a one-out walk to Brett Gardner and served up Castro's decisive home run. The 26-year-old is somehow only 2-3 despite a 3.36 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, but he stands a decent shot at earning his third win of the season Friday in a road start against the Minnesota Twins.

Yankees | Starlin Castro carries offense Sunday

Sun, 29 May 2016 13:15:47 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro slugged a two-run home run to provide his team with all the runs it would need in a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: Castro's blast to center was the only hit the Yankees could muster all day long off Jake Odorizzi and two Tampa Bay relievers, but Nathan Eovaldi and New York's vaunted bullpen made it stand up. The 26-year-old Dominican is batting .211 this month and only had one hit in his previous 23 at-bat before delivering his seventh-inning shot. Castro batted .305 in May and hits in the heart of the order of a good offense, so owners should keep him in their lineups and ride out his slump until further notice.

Yankees | Starlin Castro tattoos sixth HR

Thu, 26 May 2016 17:29:37 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro went 1-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season Thursday, May 26, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished with the team's only run scored and RBI for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has cooled off after a hot April, but he's still been arguably the most consistent hitter in the Yankees lineup. As long as he can maintain his production, he'll continue to be one of the more useful second basemen in fantasy despite his lack of speed on the basepaths.

Yankees | Starlin Castro snaps skid

Sat, 21 May 2016 16:21:51 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro broke a 3-for-22 skid with three hits Saturday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has five homers and 17 RBI on the season, and he remains a midrange option at second in fantasy.

Yankees | Starlin Castro back in lineup

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:03:42 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro (rib cage) is back in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 10, against the Kansas City Royals.

Fantasy Tip: Castro's return was a little quicker than anticipated, so obviously you're out of luck if you benched Castro in weekly leagues. He is hitting second against Royals SP Kris Medlen, which will give him more opportunities to drive in runs and create offense. He's worth picking up in daily fantasy lineups.

Yankees | Starlin Castro out vs. Royals

Mon, 09 May 2016 12:41:23 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro (rib cage) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 9. 3B Ronald Torreyes is starting at second base and batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Chris Young Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Castro left the game Sunday, May 8, after tweaking his rib cage diving into third base. The injury isn't expected to be serious, but you'll want to replace him where you can in seasonal lineups and even consider benching him in weekly leagues. Torreyes is 11-for-35 during his career and could be a potential low-priced flier for daily contests Monday. He is also a viable depth option for AL-only leagues.

Yankees | Starlin Castro exits with injury

Sun, 08 May 2016 22:16:18 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Starlin Castro (rib cage) left the game Sunday, May 8, after he tweaked his rib cage diving back into third base. Castro said he could have stayed in, but manager Joe Girardi didn't want to take any chances.

Fantasy Tip: Dustin Ackley could receive some time at second if Castro is out. He would be a very low-end consideration in DFS.
