Royals | Raul Ibanez signs, Christian Colon called up

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 10:38:18 -0700

The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent OF Raul Ibanez (Angels) to an undisclosed major league deal Monday, June 30, and also recalled 2B Christian Colon from Triple-A Omaha. In corresponding moves, the team designated INF Pedro Ciriaco and OF Justin Maxwell for assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Ibanez figures to be a left-handed option for designated hitter duties and off the bench. Colon will be making his major league debut. He doesn't have much power but makes solid contact; he was hitting close to .300 with Omaha before his call-up. Both players should only be considered in AL-only leagues.

Tue, 13 May 2014 12:44:54 -0700

The Kansas City Royals placed 2B Omar Infante (back) on the 15-day disabled list with lower back disc irritation Tuesday, May 13, and recalled INF Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Johnny Giavotella will man the keystone the majority of the time with Infante out, and Ciriaco provides the Royals with infield insurance. Consider Giavotella only in AL-only setups.

Royals | Claim Pedro Ciriaco

Tue, 16 Jul 2013 16:18:36 -0700

The Kansas City Royals claimed INF Pedro Ciriaco off waivers from the San Diego Padres. KC expects to have him serve a utility role.

Fantasy Tip: He could be worth some fill-in at-bats for AL-only teams, especially since he can steal a base or two, and KC's second-base situation hasn't been stellar.
