Rangers | Mitch Moreland avoids arbitration

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 05:39:29 -0800

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland avoided arbitration Tuesday, Feb. 10, by signing a one-year, $5.7 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland enjoyed a .278-23-85 rebound season last year, but the batting average was a career high for the 30-year-old. His numbers have fluctuated over the years, but he's a decent MI option in fantasy.

Rangers | Mitch Moreland files for arbitration

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 07:33:29 -0800

Texas Rangers 1B/DH Mitch Moreland has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking a one-year deal worth $6 million while the team has countered with a $4.65 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland hit .278 with 23 home runs and 85 RBIs in 132 regular-season contests last year while earning $2.95 million. He is a midrange first baseman who should be selected once the big names come off the draft board.

Orioles | Baltimore interested in Mitch Moreland

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 10:22:13 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles are interested in trading for Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Already residing in a nice hitter's environment, a move to Baltimore and Camden Yards wouldn't really change Moreland's fantasy outlook all that much. The lefty first baseman slugged 23 home runs and drove in 85 runs last year, though, and he's certainly a fine fallback plan at the position once the big names are off the board.

Pirates | Mitch Moreland headed to Bucs?

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 09:57:28 -0800

The Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates are discussing a trade that would involve Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland really showed his potential with Texas last year, hitting .278 (131-for-471) with 23 home runs and 85 RBI. He can repeat his 20-homer season easily, even with a move to Pittsburgh. However, leaving the friendly hitting confines of Globe Life Park could cause fantasy owners to devalue him a tad.

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 06:31:48 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland is hitting cleanup in Game 2 of the American League Division Series Friday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) hit .231 with a solo homer in Rogers Centre this year and is a midrange 1B option on FantasyScore against Marcus Stroman.

Rangers | Mitch Moreland not playing

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 09:11:07 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland is not in the lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP David Price for Game 1 of the division series Thursday, Oct. 8. 1B Mike Napoli is starting at first base and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) did have 18 home runs on the season, and he does have two career home runs in 38 at-bats against Price. However, he also hit just .224 (91-for-407) on the year and struck out 118 times. Twelve of Napoli's 18 dingers this year were against lefties, but Price isn't your run-of-the-mill southpaw. Napoli is a gamble on FantasyScore today.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton draws in vs. Angels

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 13:44:19 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton is starting in left field and batting sixth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Andrew Heaney Thursday, Oct. 1. 1B Mitch Moreland is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) started just two games in September and only had 14 plate appearances for the month. He is a true dice roll at FantasyScore Thursday, and he doesn't own the handedness advantage. You should likely look elsewhere in daily contests.

Rangers | Mitch Moreland excelling against lefties

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 14:40:23 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland has a .705 OPS against left-handed pitchers this year, which is better than the likes of Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols, Colorado Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado and Houston Astros C Evan Gattis.

Fantasy Tip: That's pretty absurd for Moreland ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) and shows just how much he's matured as a hitter this year. He's facing a right-hander tonight, and he has a slash line of .303/.353/.535 with an OPS of .888 and 16 of his 20 home runs against them. Play him with confidence on FantasyScore.

Rangers | Mitch Moreland takes a seat

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 14:21:08 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland is out of the lineup Saturday, Sept. 12, with 1B Mike Napoli in against left-handed Oakland Athletics SP Sean Nolin.

Fantasy Tip: Nap ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has a .262-9-19 line against lefties in 122 at-bats this year. He's a decent, low-end option today on FantasyScore.

Rangers | Mike Napoli draws in vs. Seattle

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 16:54:14 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mike Napoli is starting at first base and batting fifth against Seattle Mariners SP Vidal Nuno Wednesday, Sept. 9. 1B Mitch Moreland is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) and Moreland ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) appear to be locked into a righty-lefty timeshare at first base, which is a slight hit to their seasonal value. FantasyScore players can take a flier on Napoli, as he has been much improved since joining the Rangers with a .314/.385/.514 slash line over 18 games.
