Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin Monday, May 2. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Thole usually is in the starting lineup when R.A. Dickey is pitching. He is hitting only .185 so far this season and should be avoided by owners.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:24:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Saturday, April 30. C Josh Thole will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has been battling occasional stiffness in his neck for the past week and is batting jut .150 with four RBI this season, with 31 strikeouts in 60 at-bats. Thole is 5-for-25 at the plate with a solo home run and should be viewed as nothing more than desperation cap relief for daily fantasy contests.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:22:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is out once again Tuesday, April 26, against the Chicago White Sox. C Josh Thole is hitting ninth against White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: This is Martin's third straight absence. Daily league owners have an advantage because they can find out whether or not Martin will play. It isn't likely a major issue, but the team doesn't want it to turn into anything serious. Thole has a .308 (4-for-13) average in the last week and is a decent substitute in daily contests.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin remains out

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:42:48 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, April 25. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has gone 3-for-18 this season and has not picked up a RBI since his first start. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better players to use in their lineups.

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday, April 24. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Martin will miss more time. Thole is hitting only .143 this season and should be avoided in most leagues.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 12:41:58 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 20. C Josh Thole is the catcher and is batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has become knuckleballer R.A. Dickey's personal catcher, so there is nothing to be alarmed over here. Thole has only one hit in his nine at-bats this year, although that one hit was a home run. Still, Thole has no upside whatsoever at the plate and should be passed over in daily formats.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin sitting

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 13:39:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 15. C Josh Thole is behind the dish and is hitting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello.

Fantasy Tip: This isn't the way Martin wanted to start the year. He has only two hits in 29 at-bats (.069) with 14 strikeouts. Hopefully the breather will help him out. Thole hit just .204 (10-for-49) last year and should be ignored everywhere for this spot start.

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Saturday, April 9. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Thole likely will be in the starting lineup whenever Dickey is pitching. He could be used in AL-only leagues that use two catchers but does not have much value in mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Josh Thole catches the knuckleball

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 20:06:35 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Josh Thole made the start Monday, April 4, against the Tampa Bay Rays, working with SP R.A. Dickey. Manager John Gibbons said Thole will work most of Dickey's starts to help C Russell Martin physically to avoid the stress of handling knuckleballs.

Fantasy Tip: Thole wasn't just helpful defensively, as he went 1-for-4 with a solo homer, his first since the 2013 season.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin sitting vs. Rays

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 12:12:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays Monday, April 4. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Tampa Bay SP Drew Smyly Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Martin from your daily lineups and replace him where you can in seasonal leagues. Thole projects to catch most of R.A. Dickey's starts, but Martin will receive the lion's share of games behind the dish for the Blue Jays and is a solid option in all formats when starting. Thole posted a .204/.250/.245 slash line last season and shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
