Blue Jays | Russell Martin out again

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 12:15:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 2. C Josh Thole is starting and is batting ninth against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer.

Fantasy Tip: After being called up yesterday when rosters expand, Thole won't be available just yet on FantasyScore. He had seven hits in 31 at-bats earlier this year, and he'll be a bottom-barrel priced catcher not worth a look on FantasyScore when he's playing.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin sitting against Tigers

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 12:38:13 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 28. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Matt Boyd Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is playing through a nagging hamstring injury, and he has stopped catching R.A. Dickey of late. Seasonal owners wouldn't be out of the question to consider an upgrade, as Martin is batting .111 with just three runs, three RBI and no extra-base hits in August. Thole ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has a .216/.292/.266 slash line through 122 games with the Blue Jays over the past three seasons, and he is nothing but a desperation flier at FantasyScore Friday.

Blue Jays | Josh Thole catching Sunday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 12:29:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Josh Thole is batting eighth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards Sunday, Aug. 23. C Russell Martin is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Thole is making his first appearance at the major league level this season and is not available in FantasyScore. Remove Martin ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) from your daily lineups.

Blue Jays | Dioner Navarro to return for Game 2

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 11:42:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Dioner Navarro (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list in time for Game 2 of the team's doubleheader Tuesday, June 2. He's been out since April 22 with a strained hamstring. C Josh Thole is expected to be sent down to the minors as a result. Navarro will see action as the team's designated hitter and as a pinch hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) won't be an outstanding choice on FantasyScore immediately after his activation, but he should be seen as a sleeper play when he faces certain right-handed pitchers. In Game 2 against Nats starter Max Scherzer, if he's in the lineup, Navarro should be avoided.

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 08:21:15 -0700

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting vs. Nats

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 12:59:09 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 1. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and batting sixth Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has caught fire over the past 25 games with 15 runs, four home runs, 11 RBI and a .340/.376/.564 slash line. His rising value is built into his FantasyScore cap hit, though, so be wary of when you insert him into your lineups. Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin not starting Tuesday

Tue, 26 May 2015 12:40:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 26, against the Chicago White Sox. C Josh Thole is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: With John Danks pitching for the White Sox, Martin ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is likely taking a seat because it is a lefty on the hill. Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is not worth the start.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin resting Thursday

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:35:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 21. C Josh Thole is starting behind the plate and hitting sixth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is used mainly for his defensive skills behind the dish, and he has become R.A. Dickey's personal catcher. Ignore him at FantasyScore for his bat.

Blue Jays | No Russell Martin Thursday

Thu, 14 May 2015 12:58:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 14. C Josh Thole is behind the plate and is batting eighth in the order against Houston Astros SP Roberto Hernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap), who is hitting .167 (2-for-12) in a backup role, is a desperation sleeper play at FantasyScore this evening.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin has day off

Sun, 10 May 2015 07:16:51 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 10, against the Boston Red Sox. C Josh Thole will catch Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Thole ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is nothing but a deep GPP option for FantasyScore owners willing to punt the catcher position.
